Adult (Male) Monologue from Good Will Hunting: Scene Summary: Good Will Hunting is a troubled prodigy who works as a janitor at MIT. A mathematics professor and a psychologist try to help him turn his life around. In this monologue Will is at an interview for a government job at N.S.A. and is asked to give them a good reason he shouldn't work for N.S.A. Will: Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll take a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never met, never had no problem with, get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Oh, send in the Marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a shit. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number got called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie takin' shrapnel in the ass. And he comes back to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile, he realizes the only reason he was over there in the first place was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And, of course, the oil companies used the skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices. A cute little ancillary benefit for them, but it ain't helping my buddy at twofifty a gallon.
Female (Adult): Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Scene Summary: Elizabeth Swann has just been appointed captain of the Black Pearl and commander of the pirates' Bethren Court. The pirates are now about to face the gigantic fleet of the East India Trading Company and they have little odds to survive. In this speech Elizabeth rallies the fleet and inspires them to fight... ELIZABETH: "Then, what shall we die for? You will listen to me! (shouting) Listen! The Brethren will still be looking here, to us, to the Black Pearl, to lead. And what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No. No, they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons. They will hear the ring of our swords, and they will know what we can do. By the sweat of our brows and the strength of our backs, and the courage of our hearts. Gentlemen. Hoist the colors!"
Female (Teen): Mean Girls Scene Summary: When Cady, a 16 year old homeschooled daughter of a zoologist, comes back to the US after living in Africa for many years, she needs to learn to adapt to her new life in the US. She meets Janis and Damien, who teach her about high school life. She also joins "The Plastics", a trio of popular girls led by Regina George, who hates Janis. In this monologue, Regina tells a mean story about Janis to Cady. REGINA: "Let me tell you something about Janis Ian. We were best friends in middle school. I know right, it’s sooo embarrassing. I don’t even… whatever. So then in eighth grade I started going out with my first boyfriend Kyle, who was totally gorgeous but then he moved to Indiana. And Janis was like, weirdly jealous of him. Like if I would blow her off to hang out with Kyle, she’d be like Why didn’t you call me back?! And I’d be like, Uh, why are you so obsessed with me? So then for my birthday party, which was an all girls pool party, I was like, Janyce I can’t invite you because I think you’re a lesbian. I mean, I couldn’t have a lesbian at my party! There were going to be girls there in their bathing suits! I mean right, she was a lesbian! So then her mom called my mom and started yelling at her and it was so retarded and then she dropped out of school because no one would talk to her and she came back in the fall for high school and her hair was all cut off and she was totally weird and now I guess she’s on crack. Oh my God! I love your skirt, where did you get it."
Male (Teen): Ferris Buellers Big Day Off Scene Summary: Ferris is in his room after having just convinced his parents he was ill and got the day off from going to school. Ferris: Incredible. One of the worst performances of my career and they never doubted it for a second. How could I possibly be expected to handle school on a day like this? This is my ninth sick day this semester. It’s getting pretty tough coming up with new illnesses. If I go for ten I’m probably gonna have to barf up a lung. So I better make this one count. The key to faking out the parents is the clammy hands. It’s a good non specific symptom. I’m a big believer in it. A lot of people will tell that a good phony fever is a dead lock. But you get a nervous mother, you could wind up in the doctor’s office. That’s worse than school. You fake a stomach cramp, and when you’re bent over, moaning and wailing, you lick your palms. It’s a little childish and stupid. But then, so is high school. Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Female (Kid): Alice in Wonderland Scene Summary: Alice has just talked to Mr.White Rabbit and begins chasing after him into the unknown world of Wonderland…. ALICE: [Angrily] Why, how impolite of him. I asked him a civil question, and he pretended not to hear me. That's not at all nice. [Calling after him] I say, Mr. White Rabbit, where are you going? Hmmm. He won't answer me. And I do so want to know what he is late for. I wonder if I might follow him. Why not? There's no rule that I mayn't go where I please. II will follow him. Wait for me, Mr. White Rabbit. I'm coming, too! [Falling] How curious. I never realized that rabbit holes were so dark . . . and so long . . . and so empty. I believe I have been falling for five minutes, and I still can't see the bottom! Hmph! After such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling downstairs. How brave they'll all think me at home. Why, I wouldn't say anything about it even if I fell off the top of the house! I wonder how many miles I've fallen by this time. I must be getting somewhere near the center of the earth. I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! How funny that would be. Oh, I think I see the bottom. Yes, I'm sure I see the bottom. I shall hit the bottom, hit it very hard, and oh, how it will hurt!
