With summer sojourns out of the way, the fall real estate market will get into full swing, however, the 15 per cent foreign buyer tax introduced this summer is affecting year-overyear trends, according to recent statistics released by the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV). “The record-breaking sales we saw earlier this year were replaced by more historically normal activity throughout July and August,” said Dan Morrison, REBGV president. “Sales have been trending downward in Metro Vancouver for a few months. CAULFEILD WEST VANCOUVER

KITSILANO VANCOUVER Located on Vancouver’s West Side, Kitsilano, or “Kits” as it’s affectionately known, is a neighbourhood that has transformed dramatically from its early origins. In the 1960s this now-chic enclave was a haunt for hippies. And while there’s still a bohemian vibe here, everything is much more upscale than it was during its beatnik heyday. Kitsilano is a rectangular-shaped area that’s framed by Burrard and Alma streets at its eastern and western edges, West 16th Avenue to the south and the beguiling blue waters of English Bay to the north. Towering trees provide shade on the quiet streets, while playgrounds, dog friendly parks and beaches abound. The pocket neighbourhood of Kits Point nudges north of Cornwall Avenue toward the water, where character homes are surrounded by lush gardens and manicured landscapes. On gusty days nearby Vanier Park lures kite-flyers. Elementary schools (Henry Hudson, Bayview and Lord Tennyson, among others) are scattered throughout the neighbourhood. Teens attend Kitsilano Secondary School, which is dedicated to sports with more than 45 teams. Nearby is the vaunted Meraloma Club, a co-ed sponsor of amateur sport since 1923, which hosts teams in soccer, cricket, rugby and more.

Character is present throughout Kitsilano. Community vegetable gardens stretch along disused train tracks that crisscross the community, providing a place for urbanites to cultivate crops.
