The Project
Who we are Virgam (Virtual Publishers) is a project aimed to promote the professional development of young book designers and illustrators and their advancement on the Georgian and international book market. We want to create a link between art students and publishers, enabling students to enter a professional career as book designers and illustrators and, on the other hand, giving publishers opportunity to get acquainted with young book artists. At the same time, Virgam is an educational project aiming to attract creative young people and to encourage their creativity.
What we do Virgam Virtual Publishers is an open creative educational workshop for young book designers and illustrators. Virgam helps young artists to develop original illustrated books, and to produce ready-to-print files of books with the aim of offering them to publishers, agencies, and readers. Virgam provides consultancy and resources for young authors, and represents them in negotiations with publishers and agencies. Although all books created within Virgam are published under the Virgam trade mark, the copyright remains with the authors and all license contracts are concluded with individual artists. All projects by Virgam are based on voluntary work.
How it works Summer/winter Workshops Before the beginning of each term, we organize summer / winter workshops where ideas of new books are presented and worked out. Each of the participants presents an idea for a new book. The ideas are discussed and developed in groups. Detailed plans for each book are worked out. Then every participant makes sketches for each spread of his/her book. The sketches are discussed in detail with regard to content, genre, format, volume, composition, characters, style, material, and technique. In the end, every participant has a clear concept for a book on which to continue work during the coming term. Since summer 2009, we have organized six such workshops with 10-15 participants.
During the term During the term, each participant develops at least one book. All members participate in product creation and discussion. Virgam members meet regularly to discuss and criticize each other’s work. We also communicate daily through our Facebook group where we upload our work in progress for review and commenting by other members of the group. Since October 2011 we established our own studio where we can work together, exchanging ideas and discussing our work every day.
Presentation/marketing We present our books on the internet, participate at book fairs, and offer our products directly to publishers, and agencies. Virgam acts as an agency representing the interests of the participants in negotiating individual agreements between authors and publishers. Publishing Although all books created within Virgam are published under the Virgam trade mark, the copyright remains with the authors and all license contracts are concluded with individual artists.
Achievements More than 30 original illustrated books created. First educational group to have its own stand at the Tbilisi Book Festival. We presented our books at the Festival in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. Our Books were also presented at Bookfairs in Frankfurt, Leipzig, Bologna, and London. Eight books published by Bakur Sulakauri Publishers, the leading Georgian publishing house. Two first ever Georgian picture books for which licences have been sold abroad. GALA award for the best Georgian illustrated book 2012 awarded to Virgam member Tako Bakradze More than 20 participants since 2009. Since 2009, six summer and three winter schools/workshops organized, three of them international, with participants from Georgia, Germany, and Armenia.

The little princess wants to possess the moon. Her father, the king, and his men are puzzled by such a whimsical wish. However, there is a way out even for this any difficult situation! Hardcover, 60 pages, 24 X 24 cm
He pulled a long scroll of parchment out of his pocket. "Let me see, now." he glanced at the list, frowning. "I have got ivory, apes, and peacocks, rubies, opals, and emeralds, black orchids, pink elephants, and blue poodles, gold bugs, scarabs, and ies in amber, hummingbirds' tongues, angels' feathers, and unicorns' horns, giants, midgets, and mermaids, frankincense, ambergris, and myrrh, troubadors, minstrels, and dancing women, a pound of butter, two dozen eggs, and a sack of sugar - sorry, my wife wrote that in there."
"Nobody can get the moon," said the Royal Wizard. "It is 150,000 miles away, and it is made of green cheese, and it is twice as big as the palace."

"I don't remember any blue poodles," said the king.

"It says blue poodles right here on the list, and they are checked off with a little check mark," said the Lord High Chamberlain. "so there must have been blue poodles. You just forgot." "Never mind the poodles," said the king. "What I want now is the moon."
