HUMANITIES HUMANITIES COURSES (HUM) 150 Service Learning in a Global Context (4) Students engage in service projects in communities that have been damaged by the effects of violence, poverty, and social injustice. They learn about the target community, engage in a service project that addresses the needs of that community, and reflect on the service experience. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: students should be prepared to travel abroad (have valid passports, etc.). Offered in selected January Terms. 201 Travel in the Humanities (1, 2, or 4) A group travel experience to domestic or international location or locations guided by faculty. Students will have the opportunity to experience new locations and/or cultures and to reflect on their experiences. Emphasis on artistic and humanistic aspects of the location, but will incorporate a variety of experiences. May be repeated for credit. Offered in selected semesters. 231/431 A Tale of Two Cities (4) I* An individualized travel and research course through which students experience and analyze the culture of two important cities, as represented in their museums, architecture, and historic sights, and in their living culture. The course is tailored to each student’s research interests and includes components before, during, and after the trip. Prerequisite for 431: 75 semester hours. Offered in selected January Terms. * HUM 431: (I). 261 Cultural Impacts (4) An interdisciplinary examination of works of art, music, film, theater, or literature that have profoundly shaped and impacted cultures in the past or present. May be repeated for credit as topics change. Offered in selected January terms and summer semesters.
