VIR Member, Hermann Renz
Editor - Another overseas article, this time from Germany Hello, my name is Hermann Renz. I´m from Ulm/Germany, yes Germany, not the New Ulm in Minnesota. I´m married and have 2 adult kids which (thanks god) do not live with me anymore. Ok, and yes, I got two little cute granddaughters as well.

Working in the telecommunications industry, I have a strong relationship to the American continent as a big amount of my team are sitting in the US and in Canada.
After starting in 2009 with a red 987 Boxster, over a 987 Black edition, we have now (at the moment) 2 Porsches in the family :
The red racer, a 981 Boxster Spyder (owned by the lady of the house) and the little American Lady (Yellow Resi), a 912E, which came to us in 2014, and she was the reason I joined the PCA and the Vancouver Island Region in June 2015.
Ok, ok, at the moment I´m investigating a 996 Targa with RUF extensions (compressor, chassis etc.) Hermann
Ulrike
Guess the colour? Yes, yellow, like the RUF Yellow Bird. Why Vancouver Island Region? Well, the little lady was coming from the north-west of the US via Portland/Oregon over Vancouver/Washington to south Germany. I thought it is a good choice to have a contact with her old region (ok, yes I know it sounds a little bit sentimental).
So here in the Ulm region I´m the lead for a classical Porsche Club and I have about 40 Porsche enthusiasts with a wide range of cars in my group. We have a lot of activities through the year and share our passion for these cars. Zuffenhausen and the Porsche Museum are an hour away. Our activities are ride-outs and so called “Stammtische”, which means, we come together in a local restaurant and enjoy “petrol based” discussions and the culinary delights of the region. This happens normally every two months. Ride-out and longer tours we do as well. The yearly visit of the AvD Oldtimer Grandprix at the Nürburgring is a must and organized for the group by me. We also have the opportunity to be in the Alps within one hour driving and four hours to be in northern Italy. So no lack of serpentines and possibilities to move the Porsches in a speciesappropriate way.
In 2018, I organized a very nice trip to the South Tirol region in Northern Italy with about a dozen cars. We hit the Dolomite mountains and several passes there, had fun and enjoyed the excellent Italian cuisine. Only an example of our activities.
So, if any of the VIR members are visiting Germany, feel free to contact me and I will give you help, tips and support for the Porsche trip of your lifetime. You can also con-
tact me, if you do not travel to Germany, but want to know some details about the German and European Porsche scene.
Warm regards from your long distance member from Ulm/Germany.
