Sweet (Little) Sixteen klingt natürlich ziemlich niedlich, ist es aber nur ein bisschen, zumindest im Kontext unseres Festivals. Da gibt es andere Attribute, die vor allem in diesem Jahr wie der berühmte Hintern auf den Eimer passen: elektronisch geradeaus, back to the roots und alles, was einem sonst in dieser Richtung noch in den Sinn kommt. Das SonneMondSterne ist ein Festival für elektronische Musik, und wir versuchen Jahr für Jahr, einen möglichst breiten elektromusikalischen Querschnitt abzubilden. In diesem Jahr nun kommt das Lineup ziemlich gerade daher. Dafür gab es schon im Vorfeld reichlich virtuelles Schulterklopfen in allerlei sozialen Netzwerken, was uns natürlich sehr freut.

Natürlich bestimmt das musikalische Programm nur zu einem Teil ein Festival als Ganzes. Dazu haben sich viele schlaue Menschen schon den Kopf zerbrochen, Untersuchungen angestellt und Befragungen durchgeführt, um dann das herauszubekommen, was wir gemeinsam ganz automatisch mitbekommen haben: Wichtig sind die Freunde, die gesamte Atmosphäre, das Gelände und die tausend Kleinigkeiten, die das Wochenende zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis machen. Dass viele von diesen Dingen beim SMS passen, ist auch und vor allem Euch zu verdanken, die Jahr für Jahr bei und mit uns feiern, lachen, sich austauschen und Neugier für neue Musik mitbringen. u n d So fr e u e n wi r u n S Au f e i n w e i t e r e S g r A n d i o S e S S m S - f e S t i VA l mit euch und euren freunden und lAden euch herzlich ein zur entdecKungSreiSe nr. 16!

On the face of it, Sweet (Little) Sixteen sounds quite cute but that only tells a small part of the story. It has many more qualities that will also be on show at this year’s summer festival: Electronic music through and through, “back to the roots” stuff with everything that you could possibly imagine in this genre. SonneMondSterne is a festival for Electronic music and we try year on year to build up a profile of the broadest range of Electronic music, and this year’s lineup is no diff erent.

In the run-up to the festival, we’ve also been pleased by all the virtual thumbs up you’ve been giving us on various social networking sites.

Of course, the musical lineup is only one part of the festival. In trying to discover what makes an event truly special, so many brainiacs have banged their heads together trying to find out what we already know – what’s important are friends, the whole atmosphere, the countryside and the thousand other little things that make this one weekend an unforgettable experience. The fact that the SMS Festival has many of these qualities is all thanks to you! Year after year, you party with us, laughing and dancing all the way with a shared hunger for new music.

„Check it out now – the Funksoul Brother“, diese Floskel aus Fatboy Slims Hit „Rockafeller Shank“ hat wohl heutzutage schon jeder halbwegs begeisterte Musikfan einmal laut mit geträllert. Auch unter Pseudonymen wie Beats International, Pizzaman oder Son Of A Cheeky Boy hat der Londoner DJ und Produzent Quentin Leo ‚Norman‘ Cook schon über 300 Releases in der Laufzeit seiner Karriere veröffentlicht und gehört so zu den erfolgreichsten Musikern auf der Welt. Auch vor seiner Dance-Karriere gehörte Cook als Mitglied der Housemartins zu den Helden der UK-Rave-Bewegung. Fatboy Slims Debütalbum „Better Living Through Chemistry“ erschien 1996 auf Skint Records und wurde sofort zum riesigen Cluberfolg. Es folgte ein Reigen an weiteren Alben und Remixen für Musikgötter wie die Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest oder Phats & Small. Sein jüngstes Werk „Here Lies Love“ entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit David Byrne und wurde 2010 auf Nonesuch releast. Und als wäre das alles nicht genug, veranstaltete Cook in der Vergangenheit die kostenlose Party Big Beach Boutique am Strand von Brighton, die bis zu 250.000 feierwütige Menschen anlockte. Dieses Jahr auf dem SMS zelebrieren wir unsere ganz eigene Big Beach Boutique, zwar ohne Strand in unmittelbarer Nähe des Dancefloors, aber dennoch mit dem Meister Himself und mindestens genauso großem Tanzvergnügen!

“Check it out now – the Funksoul Brother” – taken from Fatboy Slim’s universal hit “Rockafeller Shank”, these lyrics will resonate in the ears of any modern music listener. For an artist who previously performed under the pseudonyms Beats International, Pizzaman and Son of a Cheeky Boy, London-born DJ and producer Leo “Norman” Cook has already released over 300 records in the course of his career, placing him among the most successful musicians in the world. Even before his career in the Dance music industry, Cook was already a revered hero of the UK Rave movement for his part in the band The Housemartins. Fatboy Slim’s debut album “Better Living Through Chemistry” appeared in 1996 on Skint Records and became an overnight sensation in clubs everywhere. This prompted an explosion of further albums and remixes with legends such as The Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest and Phats & Small.

Released in 2010 from Nonesuch Records, his latest off ering “Here Lies Love” is a collaborative production with David Byrne. As if that wasn’t enough, Cook has also hosted the Big Beach Boutique party on Brighton Beach at a free event that attracts crowds of up to 250,000 fun-loving fans. We’re also set for a massive party of our own at this year’s SMS Festival, where the maestro himself will be again electrifying the masses with his dancefloor hits.

Die Gründungsmitglieder Liam Howlett, Keith Flint und Leeroy Thornhill von The Prodigy lernten sich einst auf einer Acid-Party kennen und fuhren dann zu Beginn ihrer Karriere auch deutlich mehr auf der Acidhouse- und Techno-Schiene. Thornhill wurde später durch Keith Palmer ersetzt und die Band bei ihrer Musikproduktion immer mehr von Stilen wie Drum`n`Bass, Trip-Hop, Alternative und Punk beeinflusst. Der musikalische Kopf der Band ist dabei Liam Howlett, dessen musikalische Geniestreiche von seinen Bandkollegen durch Tanz- und Gesangseinlagen untermalt werden. Ihre erste Veröffentlichung „What Evil Lurks“ erschien 1991 auf XL Recordings. Es folgten die Alben „Experience“ und „Music For The Jilted Generation“, die ihnen riesigen Erfolg und Auftritte auf der ganzen Welt bescherten. Ihre Singles „Firestarter“ und „Smack My Bitch Up“ wurden zu Klassikern. Inzwischen haben The Prodigy über 25 Millionen Platten weltweit verkauft und Preise wie den MTV Music Award oder den Brit Award abgeräumt. So wundert man sich kaum, dass die Engländer ih-ren ganz eigenen Kopf haben, wenn es um ihre Musik geht und sogar Kollaborationsangebote von Legenden wie David Bowie oder Madonna ablehnten. Ihren riesigen Erfolg haben sie auch ganz klar aufgrund ihrer energiegeladenen Live-Performances, von denen sich das SMS-Publikum bei ihrer exklusiven Show in diesem Jahr selber überzeugen kann.

The founding members of The Prodigy – Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill – became friends at an Acid-House party and actually started out their careers along the path of Acid-House and Techno. Thornhill would later be replaced by Keith Palmer as the band turned more towards producing music influenced by Drum’n’Bass, Trip-Hop, Alternative and Punk. The leading musical direction of the band comes from Liam Howlett, whose genius is underpinned by the dance and vocal interludes of his fellow band members. They released their first record “What Evil Lurks” in 1991 from XL Recordings, followed by albums “Experience” and “Music For The Jilted Generation” that brought them widespread recognition and acclaim worldwide. S K R I L L E X DJ und Produzent Skrillex gilt im Moment als Inbegriff der in Mode gekommenen Dubstep-Welle, die sich von UK aus nun auch in Deutschland und Rest-Europa verbreitet. Schon mit 16 bewies Sonny John Moore in der Hardcore-Band From The First To Last als Sänger sein musikalisches Talent. Nach zwei aufgenommenen Alben entschloss er sich jedoch solo weiterzuarbeiten und startete ab 2008 eigene Produktionen unter dem Namen Skrillex. Zwei Jahre später veröffentlichte er auf eigene Faust seine erste EP „My Name Is Skrillex“, die er zum freien Download ins Internet stellte und mit deren Songs er von da an durch die Clubszene Los Angeles‘ tourte. Daraufhin wurde er von Deadmau5 und dessen Label Mau5trap Recordings unter Vertrag genommen und releaste dort sein Nachfolgewerk „Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites“. In kürzester Zeit wurde Skrillex zu einem der ganz Großen auf dem internationalen Musikmarkt. 2011 wurde er auf Anhieb für fünf Grammys nominiert, von denen er drei absahnte. Für Helden der Pop-Showbranche wie Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga und Bring Me The Horizon bastelte er an Remixen. In diesem Jahr unterschrieb der gerade mal knapp 24-jährige einen Vertrag beim Label Atlantic und veröffentlicht sein Longplayer-Debüt „Bangerang“, bei dem ihn Gäste wie The Doors, Ellie Golding oder Sirah zur Seite standen.

Nachdem er Anfang des Jahres eine ausverkaufte Tour in Deutschland spielte, kommt er nun zurück und besucht uns auf dem SMS!

DJ and producer Shrillex is riding on the crest of the Dubstep Wave – a UK-born movement that has swept across Europe. At only 16 years of age, Sonny John Moore was already showcasing his musical talent as the vocalist for the Hardcore band From The First To The Last, with whom he produced two popular albums, before going solo in 2008 as Skrillex. Two years later, he worked from his own Faust label to release his debut EP “My Name is Skrillex”, which was made free to download online. This material formed the basis of his successful tour of clubs across Los Angeles, subsequently earning him a top record deal with Deadmau’s label Mau5trap Recordings. It was also from this label that Skrillex released his follow-up EP “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” in late 2010. In barely no time at all, Skrillex catapulted himself to the heights of the international music market. In 2011, he received an incredible five Grammy nominations and won three awards.

He has also produced remixes for the hottest popstars around, including Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Bring Me The Horizon. It was only this year that the 24 yearold landed a record deal with Atlantic and released his debut LP “Bangerang”, featuring guest acts like The Doors, Ellie Golding and Sirah. After already playing a sellout tour of Germany earlier this year, he’ll be returning to perform for us at the SMS Festival!

Deichkind, das ist DIE Hamburger Hip-Hop- und Elektro-Formation bei der das ganze Land im Moment durchdreht. Anfangs noch mit den Kumpanen Malte Pittner und Buddy Inflagranti unterwegs, sorgen heute Sänger und MC Philipp Grütering, Ferris MC, Porky Sebastian Dürre und DJ Phono für das ausufernde Spaßtreiben auf unseren Bühnen. In ihren frühen HipHop-Tagen gelangten sie einst durch ihre Single „Bon Voyage“ in den Fokus der deutschen Musikwelt. Nach zwei reinen HipHop-Alben verschrieb sich die Kombo mit ihrer Platte „Aufstand im Schlaraffenland“ 2006 vollkommen der elektronischen Musik. Damals entstand die wohl größte Feierhymne aller Zeiten „Remmidemmi“. Ihre Lorbeeren erntete die Crew vom Deich damals schon mit ihren abgedrehten Bühnenshows, bei denen sie Alltagsgegenstände wie Müllsäcke oder Klebeband zum neusten Schrei der Modewelt machten.

2010 erschien sogar das erste Deichkind-Theaterstück in Hamburg „Deichkind in Müll – eine Diskurs-Operette“. Dieses Jahr sind sie wieder da und erfolgreich wie nie zuvor. „Befehl von ganz unten“ hat diverse massive Hits im Gepäck und Deichkind wird in der Presse so hofiert, als wären sie achte Weltwunder. Und vielleicht sind sie dies auch! Wir freuen uns auf leider geilen Krawall und Remmidemmi mit den vier Jungs!

Deichkind is the Hip-Hop and Electro group that’s sweeping the nation right now. As a Hamburg-based group that initially included friends Malter Pittner and Buddy Inflagranti, today the singer and MC Philipp Grütering, Ferris MC, Porky Sebastian Dürre and DJ Phono continue to bring energy and fun to the stage. Deichkind are returning this year with their latest album “Befehl von ganz unten”, including more massive hits. The press often rave about Deichkind as if they’re the eighth wonder of the world, and maybe they’re right! When these four guys come to town, it’s sure to be a riot!

2000 von Alexis Tylor und Joe Goddard gegründet, ist Hot Chip heute wohl eine der bekanntesten Bands, wenn es darum geht, Musikstile wie Indie und Elektro zu verbinden. Schon mit 18 Jahren nehmen die beiden bei Joe Zuhause Tracks auf. Komplettiert im Jahr 2003 durch Owen Clarke, Felix Martin und Al Doyle veröffentlichen die Fünf ihr Erstlingswerk „Coming on Strong“ auf dem Independentlabel Moshi Moshi. Ihr zweites Album „The Warning“ folgt 2006 auf DFA Records, von dem ihre Hitsingle „Over and Over“ die Runde durch die Clubs dieser Welt macht. Die Kritiker sind sich einig, dass Hot Chip mehr als nur eine unmaßgebliche Bereicherung für den Musikmarkt ist. Ihre poppige elektronische Musik begeistert die Massen so, dass die Engländer sich schnell durch Touren durch Amerika, Asien, Australien und Europa mit zu den Größten der Szene machen. 2007 dürfen sie sich an der berühmten DJ-Kicks-Serie zu schaffen machen. Nominierungen für Preise wie den Grammy und den berühmten Londoner Mercury Prize folgten. Weitere Tonträger veröffentlichen sie auf Parlophone/EMI und auch wenn die Bandmitglieder einige Nebenprojekte haben, wie Doyles und Martins neue Band New Built, releasen sie im Juni 2012 ihr fünftes Studioalbum „In Our Heads“ auf Domino. Mit neuen Songs im Gepäck besuchen sie uns dieses Jahr auf dem SMS-Festival. Wir sind „ready for the floor“!

Formed in 2000 by Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, the band Hot Chip are celebrated for their masterful fusion of music styles like Indie and Electro. When they were only 18, this duo was already making music at Joe’s house. Joined by Owen Clarke, Flex Martin and Al Doyle in 2003, the five-man group released their debut album “Coming on Strong” from the independent label Moshi Moshi. In 2006, they followed it up with their second album “The Warning” from DFA Records, featuring their single “Over and Over” which became an instant hit in clubs worldwide. Critics were united in their praise of Hot Chip as more than just a money-spinning success, as the group’s fresh Electronic style entertained the masses so much that they were soon gracing the world’s biggest stages. In 2007, they were invited to produce music for the famous DJ-Kicks series, while nominations for the Grammy Awards and the Mercury Prize quickly followed. They released further recordings from the Parlophone and EMI labels and, though the band members have been busy with side projects like Doyle’s and Martin’s new band New Built, they’re set to release their fifth studio album “In Our Heads” this June from the Domino label. Adding a string of new songs to their line-up, Hot Chip are now ready to take the stage at this year’s SMS Festival.

Geboren in Tunesien und aufgewachsen in Düsseldorf begann Yassine Ben Anchor aka Loco Dice seine Karriere einst als Hip-Hop-DJ und Rapper. Als Warm-Up-Act von Größen wie Snoop Dogg und Jamiroquai war er damit auch sehr erfolgreich. Dennoch entdeckte Dice Mitte der 90er seine Liebe zur elektronischen Musik und legt fortan Techno und House auf. über zehn Jahre lang war er Resident in NRWs legendärem Tribehouse. Mit seinem besonderen Sinn für Sounds und Atmosphären fing er immer wieder die Stimmung seines Publikums ein und setzte diese künstlerisch um. Schnell war Loco Dice in allen anderen großen Clubs der Welt Zuhause.

2007 gründete er dann zusammen mit Martin Buttrich das Label Desolat, auf welchem er ein Jahr später sein Debüt „7 Dunham Place“ veröffentlichte. Mit Buttrich produzierte er gemeinsam seine erfolgreichen Tracks „Phatt Dope Shit“, „Carthago“ und „Seeing Throug Shadows“, auf denen er auch musikalische Einflüsse aus seiner Kindheit, wie Funk, Soul und orientalische Klänge verarbeitet.

Weitere Auskopplungen erscheinen von ihm auf Labels wie Ovum, Cadenza oder Coocon Recordings. Als zweites Standbein gründet er zudem zusammen mit Tom Preuss das Künstlermanagement Artist Alife. Auf dem SMS wird er uns zeigen, wie man die Masse zum Tanzen bringt!

Yassine Ben Anchor, aka Loco Dice, was born in Tunisia and raised in Düsseldorf. He started out his career as a Hip-Hop DJ and rapper, notably as a support act for music icons Snoop Dogg and Jamiroquai. It wasn’t until the mid-90s, however, that Loco Dice discovered his love for Electronic Music and turned his hand to playing Techno and House. For over a decade, he was a permanent feature on the scene as a resident DJ of the Tribehouse club in Düsseldorf. Thanks to his acute ear for sounds and feel for atmosphere, he constantly captures the mood of his audience and transforms them into artistic form. It wasn’t before long that Dice was invited to play at the world’s most famous clubs. In 2007, he teamed up with Martin Buttrich to form the label Desolat, from which he released his debut hit “7 Dunham Place”. He and Buttrich worked tirelessly together to produce the records “Phatt Dope Shit”, “Carthago” and “Seeing Through Shadows”, inspired by the musical influences of Dice’s childhood – namely Funk, Soul and the sounds of the Orient. Dice’s further works also appeared on labels Ovum, Cadenza and Cocoon Recordings. Adding another string to his bow, Dice teamed up with Tom Preuss to establish the artist management agency Artist Alife. Appearing at this year’s SMS Festival, Dice is geared up to get the masses dancing!

Geboren in Miami und aufgewachsen in Newport Beach war der Elektro-House-DJ Steve Hiroyuki Aoki schon immer auf der Sonnenseite des Lebens Zuhause. Noch während er in Kalifornien die Universität besuchte, gründete er sein eigenes Label DIM MAK Records, auf dem heute Künstler wie MSTRKRFT oder die Klaxons veröffentlichen. Doch nicht genug, dass Steve mit den weltweit besten Künstler arbeitet und ebenso erfolgreich eigene Musik produziert, er ist auch weltweit als gefeierter DJ unterwegs und setzt dem ganzen die Krone auf, als er 2006 mit seiner Schwester, Model Devon Aoki, das Modelabel DIM MAK Collection gründet.

Anfang 2012 erschien sein neues Soloalbum „Wonderland“, auf dem ihn Gäste wie LMFAO, Kid Cudi oder Travis Barker supporten.

Hinter Digitalism verbergen sich die Hamburger Jungs Jens Moelle und Ismail Tüfekci, die sich in dem Plattenladen Underground Solution kennenlernten und bereits seit 2000 gemeinsam Musik machen. 2004 gründeten sie dann die Band Digitalism und veröffentlichten drei Jahre später ihr Debütalbum „Idealism“ zunächst auf Kitsuné Music. Später wurde die Scheibe von der EMI neu veröffentlicht. Inzwischen sind die beiden einer der beliebtesten Live-Acts der elektronischen Tanzmusik und rund um den Globus erfolgreich. Ihr letztes Jahr erschienenes Album „I Love You Dude“ ging sofort durch die Decke. Das Besondere an dem Elektro-Gespann ist, dass sie sowohl eingefleischte Techno-Fans bedienen, aber auch, die heute auf jedem Festival vertretenen Indie-Kids erfreuen.

Digitalism represents the Electro-House artists Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi, who became friends hanging out in the Underground Solution record store in Hamburg. Since 2000, they’ve been successfully producing music together, forming the band Digitalism in Hamburg in 2004 and releasing their impressive debut album “Idealism” 3 years later. They first released the album from the Kitsuné Music label before rereleasing it from EMI Music Japan. Meanwhile, the duo has been widely successful on the world circuit, gaining a reputation as one of the best live acts on the Electronic Dance scene. Released last year, their latest album “I Love You Dude” quickly became a fan favourite. What makes this Electro-House duo really stand out is their eff ortless ability to entertain not just hardcore Techno fans but festival-goers with a more Indie taste in music.

Der Berliner DJ, Sänger und Produzent Fritz Kalkbrenner hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren einen bedeutenden Namen in der Musikszene gemacht. Produzierte er 2008 noch gemeinsam mit Bruder Paul den über alle Maßen erfolgreichen Soundtrack zum Film „Berlin Calling“, machte er danach durch seine eigene Musik auf sich aufmerksam. 2010 erschien sein Erstlingswerk „Here Today Gone Tomorrow“ auf dem Label Suol, welches mit stimmigen Technobeats und sanften Melodien auftrumpfe. In diesem Jahr releaste er die Mix-CD „Soul Mates“, mit der Kalkbrenner die vom Suol-Label gestartete Compilationreihe eröffnete und die einmal mehr veranschaulicht, welche breite Spanne von Musikeinflüssen er in seinen Tracks verarbeitet.

Recently, Berliner DJ, singer and producer Fritz Kalkbrenner has made a real name for himself in the music industry, notably in producing the enormously successful soundtrack to the motion picture “Berlin Calling” in 2008 in collaboration with his brother Paul. After that, he firmly established himself on the scene with a unique style of his own. In 2010, he released his debut solo album “Here Today Gone Tomorrow” from the Suol label, boasting an eclectic mix of harmonious Techno beats and smooth melodies. He followed it up this year by working with Suol Label to produce the compilation mix CD „Suol Mates“, which again demonstrates the diverse range of musical influences at play in his tracks.

Lexy & K-Paul ist einer der erfolgreichsten Acts Deutschlands. Bereits 1999 erschien ihre erste gemeinsame Single „Do You Like Disco?“. Ein Jahr später folgte das Debüt „Loud“ auf Electric Kingdom / Low Spirit. Zusammen mit Rapper Marteria, der bereits mit 18 Jahren seinen ersten Solovertrag hatte und ganz nebenbei auch noch weltweit erfolgreiches Model wurde, besuchen sie uns dieses Jahr auf dem SMS-Festival.

Schon im Jahr 2008 wagten sich die beiden DJs Alexander Gerlach und Kai Paul ins deutsche Rap-Business als sie mit Das BO den Song „The Clap“ veröffentlichen.

Mit Marteria nahmen sie 2011 für ihr Album „Psycho“ die Nummer „Roboter“ auf und seitdem haben sich die drei Musiker nicht mehr aus den Augen verloren.

DJ Alexander Gerlach and DJ Kai Michael Paul, aka Lexy & K-Paul, currently rank among Germany’s most successful music acts. In 1999, they released their joint single “Do You Like Disco?”, followed up a year later with the debut album “Loud” from labels Electric Kingdom and Low Spirit. Angefixt durch Technopartys in seinem Geburtsort Gera gegen Ende der 90er Jahre begann Marek Hemmann schnell eigene Musik zu produzieren. 2009 erschien seine erste Platte „In Between“ auf dem Wighnomy Brothers Label Freude am Tanzen. Letztes Jahr folgte dann sein zweiter Streich „Only Our Hearts To Lose“ in Zusammenarbeit mit Sänger Fabian Reichelt und Mr. Fisch.

In den letzten Jahren nahm der Musiker einen Platz als einer der erfolgreichsten Live-Künstler der Szene ein.

Durch seinen speziellen Marek Hemmann-Sound, der mit wenig Technik aber vielfältigen Klängen funktioniert, kreiert er eingängige Melodien, die immer wieder als Ohrwurm beim Hörer zurückbleiben.

Hooked on the beats played at Techno parties in his hometown of Gera in the early 90s, Marek Hemmann soon got involved in making his own music. In 2009, he produced his first album “In Between” from the Freude am Tanzen label owned by the Wighnomy Brothers.

This year, he followed it up with his second record “Only Our Hearts To Lose” – a collaboration with singer Fabian Reichelt and Mr Fisch. It’s safe to say that Hemmann today ranks as one of the most acclaimed live performers in this genre. Through his unique and distinctive sounds, this musician merges a touch of Techno with a diverse range of sounds to create catchy and memorable melodies that stick in the minds of his listeners.

Gesaffelstein, DJ und Produzent aus Frankreich, ist einer der gefeiertsten Newcomer in den letzten Jahren. Mike Levy, wie er mit bürgerlichem Namen heißt, bespielte schnell die besten Clubs der Welt und wird mit seinem düsteren Technostil von Größen der Szene wie Boys Noize, 2 Many DJs oder DJ Hell gehypt. Kein Wunder, dass er unverzüglich vom kanadischen Labelinhaber Tiga von Turbo unter Vertrag genommen wurde. Selbiger betitelt Gesaffelstein mit den Worten: „The french hero of the moment“. In diesem Jahr releaste der Franzose seine „Conspiracy Remixes“ mit u.a. Acts wie The Hacker oder David Carretta. Außerdem machte er sich in den vergangenen Monaten an Songs von Musikern wie Lana Del Rey oder ZombieZombie zu schaffen.

French DJ and producer Gesaff elstein is touted as one of the most exciting newcomers of recent years. Wer Frittenbude von vergangenen Festivals oder Konzerten kennt, weiß, wo Frittenbude drauf steht, steckt pure Eskalation drin. Ihr Erfolgsalbum „Katzengold“ sorgte im vergangenen Jahr für eine Menge Wirbel auf Deutschlands Bühnen. Ihre Hammernummer „Mindestens In 1000 Jahren“ wurde die Festivalhymne 2011.

Das in diesem Jahr veröffentlichte Nachfolgealbum „Delfinarium“ wird diesem ganz sicher in nichts nachstehen. Mit Rap und Punk auf elektronischen Beats schaffen es die drei Geisenhausener Josef Utzenbach, Rüdiger Streuner und Schranz Beckenbauer, so wie sie sich selbst nennen, Freunde jeglicher Musikrichtung in ihren Bann zu ziehen. Denn sind wir mal ehrlich, an der Frittenbude kommt doch eben jeder auf seine Kosten.

Als Resident des Thüringer Clubs Muna ist Kaden eine feste Größe in der Minimal-Techno-Szene und hat sich auch durch Remixes für Anja Schneider, Matthias Tanzmann und Trentemöller einen Namen gemacht. Doch damit nicht genug: Mit seinem Projekt Fleshblood fördert er den musikalischen Nachwuchs und beweist dadurch, dass Musik das ist was er lebt und fühlt.

As a resident DJ of the Muna club in Thuringia, Kaden’s success has propelled him to the heights of the Minimal Techno scene, gaining particular recognition through his remixes for Anja Schneider, Matthias Tanzmann and Trentemöller. His acclaimed releases have appeared on the labels Freude am Tanzen and Vakant, but he hasn’t stopped there: with his project “Fleshblood” he has rejuvenated the music scene, demonstrating that music is what he truly lives and breathes for.

Der französische Techno-Musiker Pascal Arbez-Nicolas aka Vitalic begann schon in seiner Jugend aktiv Musik zu machen und agierte früh unter verschiedenen Pseudonymen wie Dima, Citizen Crew oder Hustler Pornstar. Durch seinen guten Freund The Hacker landete er auf DJ Hells Label International Deejay Gigolo Records, wo 2001 seine „Poney EP“ erschien, die ihn im Handumdrehen berühmt machte. Weitere erfolgreiche Releases und zahlreiche umfeierte DJ-Performances folgten. Sein letztes Album „Flashmob“ aus dem Jahr erschien auf Different.

The French Techno artist Pascal Arbez-Nicolas, aka Vitalic, started making music from a young age, initially performing under the various pseudonyms of Dima, Citizen Crew and Hustler Pornstar. Dubfire

Als Mitglied des Duos Deep Dish feierte Dubfire in den vergangen Jahren große Erfolge, u.a. erhielten die zwei Produzenten einen Grammy Award. Aber auch alleine kreiert er in seinen Tracks eine Mischung aus Techno und Progressive House, die die Partymeute zum Kochen bringt. Der bekannteste Clubhit des iranisch stammenden US-Amerikaners war die Nummer „RibCage“ auf Loco Dices Label Desolat, aber auch sein eigenes Label SCI + TEC Digital Audio releast einen Clubhit nach dem anderen.

The artist known as Dubfire is one of two music producers of the duo Deep Dish, whose collective exploits have earned them a number of successes over recent years, including the feat of scooping up a Grammy Award. As

a solo artist, Dubfire’s music presents an exciting mix of Techno and Progressive House that always gets the party fired up. The most famous club anthem of this American artist of Iranian descent is surely “RibCage”, released from Loco Dice’s label Desolat, but it shouldn’t be forgotten that he’s also produced a number of hits from his own label SCI + TEC Digital Audio.

Ellen Allien

Schon in den 80er Jahren machte die DJane, Labelmacherin und Produzentin Ellen Allien erste Berührungen mit Acid-House im Londoner Wag-Club. Ein paar Jahre später zog sie dann selber die DJ-Kopfhörer auf und ebnete 1991 mit ihrem ersten Auftritt in Berlins legendärem Fischlabor den Weg ihrer Karriere. Vier Jahre später gründete Ellen ihr erstes Label Braincandy, darauf folgte die Gründung des legendären Imprints bpitch control 1999, das bis heute am Puls der Zeit agiert. Das Multitalent Allien betreut zudem seit einigen Jahren auch eine eigene Modelinie.

DJ, labelowner and producer Ellen Allien was making waves as early as the 80s with her style of Acid-House in the London club Wag. Several years later, she hung up her headphones there and headed to Berlin to make her groundbreaking first appearance at the legendary Fischlabor club to truly launch her career. Four years later, Ellen formed her first label Braincandy and followed it up in 1999 by founding the legendary label BPitch Control, which has always kept its finger on the pulse of all the latest innovations in the industry. To top it all, the multitalented Allien has also been busy these past few years promoting her own modelling range.

Chris Liebing

Der in Gießen geborene Chris Liebing stellt seit vielen Jahren sein Können als DJ, Produzent und Labelbetreiber unter Beweis. Anfang der 90er Jahre prägte er den Begriff „Schranz“, aber im Lauf der Zeit änderte er nicht nur die Geschwindigkeit seiner Sets sondern auch die Art der Performance. Sein Label CLR (Create.Lean.Realize) steht für visionären und drückenden Techno-Sound. Seine ehemalige Partyreihe „Es ist Freitag Aaaaabend“ im Frankfurter U60311 sorgte für viele legendäre Nächte, deren Stimmung wir dieses Jahr auf dem SMS selbst miterleben dürfen.

Hailing from Gießen, DJ, producer and labelowner Chris Liebing has been showcasing his talents for many years now. In the early 90s, he was responsible for coining the dark and distorted Techno style of “Schranz”.

As time passed by, however, it was not just the tempo of his music that changed, but also the style of his live performances. His label CLR (Create.Lean.Realize) produces the best in visionary and hard-hitting Techno sounds. Performed at the Frankfurt club U60311, his vintage party collection “Es ist Freitag Aaaaabend” has been the basis for many legendary nights, creating a party atmosphere that everyone can experience at this year’s SMS Festival.

Northern Lite

Im Jahre 1997 gründeten Andreas Kubat und Sebastian Bohn die heute vierköpfige Musikgruppe Northern Lite. Die Erfurter verkörpern moderne elektronische Popmusik, die Elektropop mit rockigen Gitarren vereint. Ihr erstes Release „Small Chamber Works“ feierten sie 2000 auf dem eigens gegründeten Label 1st Decade Records. Nach einem Major-Ausflug zu Universal erschien in 2011 ihr jüngstes Album „I like“ auf Una Music, auf dessen Tracks wir uns sicher auch im Festivalsommer 2012 freuen können.

Mit ihrem aktuellen Album „Einszwei“ beschallen die DJs und Produzenten Michi Beck, bekannt durch die Fanta Vier, und Thomas Burchia aka DJ Thomilla in diesem Jahr die Clubs unseres Landes. Ihre Zusammenarbeit startete gegen Ende der 90er, bei der sie sich noch eher auf Hip-Hop-lastigere Sets konzentrierten. 1998 begannen dann die Auftritte unter dem Namen Turntablerocker, dessen Musikstil sie heute selber als „Electronic Wildstyle“ bezeichnen, ein Mix aus Electro, House, Hip-Hop sowie Funk und Soul.

SebastiAn Sebastian Akchoté aus Frank-

Neben seinen eigenen Platten komponierte er auch schon Filmmusik und mischte Remixes für Kollegen wie Daft Punk, Kelis oder die Klaxons. Sein letztes Album „Total“ erschien 2011 auf Ed Banger Records, einem Label dem sich SebastiAn seit Beginn seiner Karriere verschrieben hat und bei welchem er in diesem Jahr auch seine EPCollection veröffentlichte.

French actor and DJ Sebastian Akchoté started producing his own music at the young age of 15. In addition to making his own records, he also composed his own film soundtracks and mixed remixes for high-profile colleagues like Daft Punk, Kelis and Klaxons. In 2011, SebastiAn released his latest album “Total” from the Ed Banger Records label, from which he also released his EP collection this past year.

Peter Cornely aka Karotte begann nach einer Ausbildung als Schornsteinfeger seine DJ-Karriere gegen Ende der 90er Jahre, u.a. als Resident im ehemaligen Club Aufschwung Ost, später Stammheim, in Kassel. Später auch Resident im gefeierten Cocoon Club, gehört Karotte heute zu den besten und vielseitigsten DJs der elektronischen Musik, den Deutschland zu bieten hat. Der Marathon-Mann und anerkannte Gourmet produziert zusammen mit Gregor Tresher und veröffentlichte bereits auf Labels wie Kosmo und Great Stuff und wird mit seiner nicht enden wollenden Energie auch unsere Tanzmeute begeistern.

After initially training to become a chimney sweep, Peter Cornely, aka Karotte, tried his hand on the decks in the late 90s and launched a successful DJ career as a resident DJ of the old Aufschwung Ost club (later renamed Stammheim) in Kassel. Thereafter, Karotte performed as a resident DJ of the famous Cocoon Club in Frankfurt, making him today one of the most revered and multi-talented DJs of Electronic music that Germany has to offer. Celebrated for his mammoth sets, this socalled “Marathon-Man” has been producing music with Gregor Tresher, releasing tracks from labels like Kosmo and Great Stuff, whilst entertaining live audiences with his boundless energy on stage.

Rush

Geboren mit dem Namen Isaiah Major ist Rush aus Chicago heute einer der DJs an der Spitze der Technoszene. Sein Durchbruch in Europa gelang ihm 1998 mit seiner Nummer „Motherfucking Bass“, welche nur eine von vielen Hits ist, die er bei seinen 10-Stunden-Sets auspackt. Rush selbst nennt seinen Stil „Hard Energy“, der sich durch druckvollen und harten Techno

Since 2007, musical fashion design has been the lifeblood of the creative figures of Alexander Gerlach and Helena Kapidizic from the group Niconé. They create fashion designs that are colourful, shrill and, above all, successful. Musically, the group Niconé is composed of Gerlach and Sascha Braemer, whose string of acclaimed records have already appeared on labels such as Bar 25, Burlesque, Kickboxer and Saved Records. In 2011, they released their album “Romantic Thrills” from Oliver Koletzki’s label Stil Vor Talent.

Boris Dlugosch

Hinter den drei Buchstaben Âme verbergen sich die beiden Karlsruher Kristian Berger und Frank Wiedemann. Musikalisch verschreiben sie sich bevorzugt dem Deep House und konnten mit ihrem Track „Rej“ großen internationalen Erfolg verbuchen. Neben zahlreichen Releases auf Sonar Kollektiv und einem Club-Hit auf OstgutTon veröffentlichten sie dieses Jahr ihr neues Album „Live“ auf ihrem eigenen Label Innervisions, von dessen Klangvielfalt sich die SMS-Crowd in diesem Jahr überzeugen kann.

Kristian Berger and Frank Wiedermann are the two Karlsruhe-born artists behind the outfit Âme. Musically grounded in the Deep House genre, they earned wide international acclaim with their record “Rej”. Along with a number of record releases from the Sonar Kollectiv label and a club hit from the OstgutTon label, they’ve been hard at work this year producing their latest album “Live” from their own label Innervisions. Their diverse mix of sounds will be there for all to experience at this year’s SMS Festival.

The Chicago-born artist Isaiah Major, aka Rush, is today one of the top DJs on the Techno scene. It was back in 1998 that he made his breakthrough in Europe with his outstanding record “Motherfucking Bass” – just one of many hits that he packed into his legendary 10-hour sets.

Rush coined his own style “Hard Energy”, defined as a pulsating and hard-hitting variety of Techno. He’s previously experimented with refining this style in his remixes for acts like Alter Ego, Green Velvet and Mike Huckaby.

Moonbootica are made up of the Hanseatic partystarting duo of DJ KoweSix and DJ TobiTob, the latter of whom is also famed for his successful Hip-Hop band Fünf Sterne Deluxe. The duo’s selftitled album “Moonbootica” was released in 2005 from their own label Moonbootique, while their most recent record “Our Disco Is Louder Than Yours” appeared in early 2012 on the Four Music label. Their recent material presents a thunderous style of Electronic Dance that is sure to blasting out at this year’s SMS Festival!

Der in Hamburg geborene House-Musiker Boris Dlugosch startete seinen Werdegang als DJ in der legendären Diskothek FRONT in Hamburg und prägte in dieser Zeit die Entwicklung von Deep-House in Deutschland maßgeblich. Sein größter Erfolg bis dato war seine Single „Never Enough“, die zusammen mit Moloko-Sängerin Róisín Murphy entstand. Auch in anderen Musikprojekten wie Altered States, BMR oder Boom! agierte Dlugosch sehr erfolgreich.

Born in Hamburg, the House musician Boris Dlugosch launched his career as a DJ at his hometown’s legendary FRONT disco, where he played a key role in developing the Deep House genre in Germany. DJ, Produzent und Live-Act Henrik Schwarz lebte im beschaulichen Bergatreute bei Ravensburg, bis er sich 2000 nach Berlin aufmachte, um dort musikalisch die Welt zu erobern. 2006 bekam er dann den Ritterschlag in der Szene, als er die renommierte DJ-Kicks-Compilation produzieren durfte. Schwarz‘ Releases werden weltweit gefeiert. Sein letztes Album „Wesseltoft Schwarz Duo“ erschien 2011 zusammen mit Bugge Wesseltoft auf Jazzland Records.

DJ, producer and live performer Henrik Schwarz used to live in the quiet village of Bergatreute near Ravensburg before he kicked off his career in Berlin in 2000 with a bang, sending shockwaves across the music world. Das Berliner DJ- und Produzenten-Gespann Pan-Pot, bestehend aus Tassilo Ippenberger, Thomas Benedix und anfangs noch Marco Resmann, lernte sich an der SAE im Studiengang Electronic Music Producer kennen und beschloss kurzum, gemeinsame Sache zu machen. Bei diesem professionellen Background ist es kein Wunder, dass ihr Debüt „Pan-O-Rama“ 2007 auf Anja Schneiders Erfolgslabel Mobilee erschien, bei dem sie sich bis heute heimisch fühlen. 2012 wurde ihre neue „Gravitiy EP“ releast, die in allen relevanten DJ Charts zu finden ist.

Composed of Berlin artists Tassilo Ippenberger, Thomas Benedix and originally Marco Resmann, the DJ and producing team Pan Pot became friends whilst training to be Electronic music producers at the SAE Institute. It wasn’t long before they decided to work together and it was hardly surprising that given their professional background they would quickly achieve success with their 2007 debut album “Pan-O-Rama” from Anja Schneider’s high-profile label Mobilee, from which they’ve been producing records ever since. In 2012, their latest album “Gravity EP” became an instant mainstay in all DJ charts.

Außerdem veröffentlichte er Tracks auf Labels wie Dirtybird, Superdub oder Stil Vor Talent, auf dem auch sein aktuelles Album „Romantic Thrills“ in Zusammenarbeit mit Alexander Gerlach als Niconé 2011 releast wurde.

At only 20 years of age, Sascha Braemer was already spinning records on the turntables of several Berlin clubs. His breakthrough as a solo artist arrived with the release of his record “Mamba Drums” from Kindisch Records – a sub-label of record company Get Physical.

Born in Turkey in 1980, the successful DJ and producer Onur Özer has been headlining the most renowned clubs for many years. His Minimal Techno style is interwoven with the oriental sounds of his homeland, transmitting the sounds of his culture to the ears of his listeners, including festival-goers at this year’s SMS event.

Born in Frankfurt and raised in Wiesbaden, André Galuzzi worked from a young age behind the bar at several clubs.

Even back then it was clear that his path to the DJ console was never far away. Together with Paul Brtschitsch, Galuzzi founded the Taksi label in 1995, while in recent years he has gained notoriety for his 10-hour DJ sets that we’ll also be treated to at this year’s SMS Festival.

Friction & MC Linguistic

beiden Musiker Holger Kampling und Johannes Bergheim gründeten 2008 gemeinsam das Projekt Aka Aka. Zuerst bei Oliver Koletzkis Label Stil vor Talent unter Vertrag, gründeten sie bald ihr eigenes Label Burlesque und haben sich seitdem als Liveact einen Namen gemacht. Gemeinsam mit Trompeter Thalstroem touren sie nun durch Europa und statten dem SMS-Festival ebenfalls einen Besuch ab.

In 2008, artitsts Holger Kampling and Johannes Bergheim came together to launch the project Aka Aka, initially in a record deal with Oliver Koletzki’s label Stil vor Talent, shortly before founding their own Burleseque label. They’ve since made a name for themselves on the live stage, touring across Europe with the renowned trumpeter Thalstroem and preparing to make an appearance at the SMS Festival.

Die französische Elektroband aus Paris ist schon lange bekannt für ihre innovativen Produktionen und Liveshows. 2011 releasten sie ihre letzte EP „Tarantino/Oakwood“ auf Dim Mak Records, deren Sounds, wie ihre Musik überhaupt, mit Elementen aus Elektro, Dubstep und Drum and Bass spielt.

Parisian Electro group have long been known for their ground-breaking productions and live shows. In 2011, they released their latest EP “Tarantino/Oakwood” from Dim Mak Records featuring elements of Electro, Dubstep and Drum ‘n’ Bass that reflect their wider musical style.

Cassy, oder auch Cassy Britton, ist seit Jahren für die elektronischen Beats in ihrem zweiten Zuhause, dem Berghain in Berlin, zuständig. In ihren Sets vertritt sie kein bestimmtes Genre, sondern bezaubert ihre Gäste mit einer breiten Palette an House- und Technomusik. Auch wir freuen uns in diesem Jahr auf eine bunte Mischung tanzbarer Sounds.

For years now, Cassy, otherwise known as Cassy Britton, has found her second home in the Electronic beats of Berghain in Berlin. Her sets are not representative of any specific genre, but she bedazzles her crowds with a wide range of House and Techno mixes. This year she looks set to bring us another colourful mix of danceable beats.

Die Jungs von Format:B heißen bürgerlich Franziskus Sell und Jakob Hillenbrand. Sie lernten sich in der Ausbildung zum Tontechniker kennen und entwickelten daraus ein überaus erfolgreiches Musikprojekt, das seit 2005 ein fester Bestandteil der deutschen Technoszene ist. Ihre beiden gefeierten Alben erschienen auf Highgrade Records und ihrem eigenen Label Formatik Records.

Format:B consists of musicians Franziskus Sell and Jakob Hillenband, who became friends during their professional training to become sound engineers. Out of this friendship blossomed an incredibly successful music project that has been at the core of the German Techno scene ever since 2005. DJ und Produzent Daniel Stefanik entdeckte schon im Alter von vier Jahren seine Liebe zur Musik durch sein Schlagzeug. Mitte der 80er Jahre stieß er dann auf Detroit-Techno und legt seit dieser Zeit regelmäßig in Berlin und Dresden auf.

Seine Produktionen erscheinen auf Moon Harbour, Harry Klein Records oder Cocoon Recordings.

Das Allroundtalent Niklas Worgt aka Dapayk ist einer der Hauptakteure, wenn es um MinimalTechno geht. Seine aktuelle Platte „Sweet Nothings“ ist wieder einmal im Zuge seines Projekts Dapayk&Padberg entstanden, das er mit seiner Lebensgefährtin, dem Topmodel Eva Padberg, seit 2003 mit viel Herzblut betreibt.

Auch ohne seine bessere Hälfte wird er in diesem Jahr auf dem SMS mit seinen minimalen Klängen begeistern.

The all-round talented Niklas Worgt, aka Dapayk, is one of the main players on the Minimal Techno scene. His latest record “Sweet Nothings” represents yet another development to come out of his Dapauk&Padberg project that he and his life partner, the top model Eva Padberg, have poured their heart and soul into ever since 2003. Though he’ll be without his better half for this year’s event, he’s preparing to amaze the crowds again with his mix of Minimal sounds at the SMS Festival.

Die Macher von Channel X hören auf die Namen Andre Quasar und Mirko Hensel. Nach Releases auf Upon You haben sie bei Stil vor Talent ihre Bleibe gefunden und gehören dort zu den fleißigsten Acts.

Ihre gefeierten Club-Abräumer-Qualitäten werden sie in diesem Jahr dem SMS-Publikum unter Beweis stellen.

The artists behind Channel X go by the names of Andre Quasar and Mirko Hensel. After a string of releases from Upon You, they have found a new home with the label Stil vor Talent and represent one of the label’s most hard-working acts around. Come this year’s SMS Festival, it’ll be obvious to see why they’ve been sweeping the club scene so rapidly in recent times.

Il ario Alicante

Der Jung­spund Ilario Alicante wurde 1988 in Livorno in Italien geboren und ist somit noch einer der neueren Kandidaten der Szene. Nichtsdestotrotz wird das Ausnahmetalent mittlerweile weit über Europa hinaus gebucht. Seine Basis hat er jedoch inzwischen im schönen Berlin und so freuen wir uns, dass er im Sommer auf dem SMS vorbeischaut.

Die deutsche Techno-Ikone Frank ‚Jailhouse Rocker‘ Lorber startete seine Karriere einst im Gießener Club „Gonzo“. 1997 gründete er zusammen mit Toni Rios das Label Attention Records, 2003 dann seine ganz eigene Plattenfirma Nummer Schallplatten. Vergangenes Jahr releaste er auf Cocoon Rec. zusammen mit Santé die EP „Rootdown/You Know“.

Jesse Siminski, aka Heartthrob, was born in Michigan and introduced to the joys of Electronic music by his father. In the past, Heartthrob released records from a whole host of top labels such as Minus. He is all geared up to present his critically acclaimed “Hybrid” live-set at this year’s SMS Festival and we cannot wait!

Egbert van der Gugten, so wie Egbert mit vollen bürgerlichen Namen heißt, ist wohl eines der vielversprechendsten Talente, wenn es um elektronische Tanzmusik geht. Mit zahlreichen Club-Hit-Veröffentlichungen auf Labels wie Gem Records oder Cocoon Recordings, kletterte Egbert in den vergangenen Jahren Stück für Stück an die Spitze der Szene.

Egbert van der Gugten, or Egbert for short, is certainly among the most promising and multitalented acts in the Electronic Dance genre. Having released a number of top club anthems from labels like Gem Records and Cocoon Recordings, Egbert has been successfully climbing to the top of the Electronic Dance scene over these last 12 months.

Neben Künstlern aus der Szene inspirieren ihn auch Musiker aus anderen Genres wie z. B. Depeche Mode, Radiohead oder Joy Division.

Behind this English-sounding name, Douglas Greed is actually the Techno producer Mario Willms from Jena.

Since 2005, he’s released countless productions from labels such as Freude am Tanzen and Combination.

Similar to other artists on the scene, he takes his musical inspiration from other genres, notably from the groups Depeche Mode, Radiohead and Joy Division.

The Boogie Pimps are East German legends of the Electronic genre after becoming a truly worldwide sensation with their hit “Saltshaker”. At the heart of it, the Pimps are the German-Australian pairing of DJ Mark J Klak and DJ Jon Henderson. They’ve released their club-rocking EPs from a number of labels, including Kiss’n’Tell, Clubland and Kontor Records.

John B. Williams, um seinen Künstlernamen einmal zu vervollständigen, ist berühmt geworden durch sein 2002 erfundenen „Electrostep“. Der Drum’n’BassProducer aus UK führt neben Beta Recordings noch die drei Unterlabels Nu Electro, Tangent und Chihuahua.

2012 erschien sein neues Album „Light Speed“, das uns für diesen Festivalsommer 13 neue Tracks liefert.

Die in Österreich lebenden Drum´n´Bass-Produzenten begannen bereits 2002 an ihren Sounds zu tüfteln, allerdings damals noch jeweils im Alleingang. Wir freuen uns, dass sie zu zweit auf unserem Festival für feinste Beats sorgen werden.

These Austrianbased Drum‘n’Bass producers were already refining their sounds in 2002, although as separate solo acts at the time. This year we can look forward to seeing the duo together delivering the highest quality Electronic beats to the SMS crowds.

Der Moderator, Journalist und Autor Markus Kavka beglückt uns auch in diesem Sommer wieder auf dem SMS mit seinen DJQualitäten. Bediente er in früheren Jahren eher die IndieSzene, so spielt er heute bevorzugt House und Techno.

Und damit ist er bei uns, wie immer, genau richtig!

Presenter, journalist and writer Markus Kavka will be delighting crowds again this summer with his much anticipated DJ set. After trying his hand on the Indie scene in his early years, today his attention is fully focussed on playing the best of House and Techno and he’s picked the perfect place to do so at this year’s SMS Festival!

Animal Trainer

Das Zürcher DJ-Duo Animal Trainer gibt es jetzt nunmehr seit sechs Jahren. Die DJs Adrian Flavor und Samy Jackson lernten sich damals im UG-Club, dem heutigen Hive, kennen und ebneten von da an den Weg für ihr gemeinsames Projekt.

Im letzten Jahr erschien ihre „Sunday EP“ auf dem Label der Kollegen von Moenster, Moensterbox.

It was back in the UG Club, known today as “Hive”, in Zurich where DJ Adrian Flavor and DJ Samy Jackson became friends, effectively paving the way for the launch of their collaborative music project. Last year, they released their acclaimed “Sunday EP” from the Moensterbox label, which is run by their good friends Moenster.

Auch die beiden Künstler von Bruch & Junior stammen aus dem umtriebigen Hause Stil vor Talent. Erst 2009 riefen Christopher Lawrenz und Eike Bruck ihr Musikprojekt ins Leben, um uns heute mit einer Mischung aus Techno und Minimal zu beglücken. Letztes Jahr releasten sie ihre EP „Runway To Kenia“, die sie sicherlich auch auf dem SMS spielen werden.

Bruch & Junior join a long and distinguished list of artists who have shot to fame through the label Stil vor Talent. Jacob Dove Basker from New York is only ever tough when it comes to drinking whisky! As far as his music’s concerned, he combines cool Hip-Hop sounds with Electro and Minimal beats, producing a unique form of Electronic music that we can all look forward to enjoying at this year’s SMS Festival.

Wir dürfen also gespannt sein, wie die zwei Musiker diese Kombination auf der Bühne des SMS umsetzen werden.

Schon seit 120 Monaten spürt man den wummernden Puls Berlins an der Spree, die sich an dieser Stelle durch das facettenreiche Kreuzberg schlängelt. 3652 Tage schlägt das Herz des Technoveteranen Woche für Woche bis in die späten Mittagsstunden hinein, lange bevor sich die wirren Stimmen der Nacht über den kleinen Wellen verlieren. 87660 Stunden schon tummeln sich die Helden der Nacht mit internationalen DJs und treuen Residents hinter der matten Glasfront. Jede Woche verzückt die LEDDecke und der kristallklar drückende Klang des Mainfloors die Sinne unserer offenherzigen Besucher. Like most successful places Watergate grew out of Berlin’s wild underground of the 90s. From these anarchistic roots grew branches in which techno and house followed leaving a network of experimental charm for Berlin.

Es ist ein wenig wie bei „Dinner for one“. The same procedure as every year. Ein Freude am Tanzen Showcase gehört einfach zu SMS wie der beliebte Sketch zu Sylvester. Der Unterschied ist, die Freude am Tanzen Crew serviert jedes Jahr Neues an musikalischen Pointen. Aber, man kann sich eben darauf verlassen, dass James wieder über den Tiger stolpert … Man weiß was man bekommt. Trotzdem gibt es immer wieder überraschungen, so auch dieses Mal. Es gibt Menschen die behaupten, tanzen ist der vertikale Ausdruck eines horizontalen Bedürfnisses. Saalburg liegt in Thüringen, nahe der bayerischen Landesgrenze unmittelbar an der A9 (das ist die von München nach Berlin und umgekehrt). Automobilisten, die aus Richtung Süden kommen, benutzen die Abfahrt Lobenstein, jene aus dem Norden verlassen die Autobahn an der Abfahrt Schleiz.

Von den Autobahnausfahrten einfach Richtung Saalburg fahren (ist jeweils ausgeschildert).

In Saalburg folgt ihr entweder dem Sound oder aber unseren liebevoll selbst gemalten Schildern zum Festivalgelände. wir wünschen wie immer eine sehr entspannte Anreise und sehen uns in Saalburg.

Saalburg is located in the south of Thuringia in Germany and we suggest travelling on motorway A9, which connects Berlin and Munich. If you visit us from the south (direction Munich to Berlin), please use exit “Lobenstein”; those who are coming from northern regions (Berlin to Munich) might leave the motorway at exit “Schleiz”. Following the signs, it should be easy to arrive at Saalburg. Let the music guide you and simply watch out for our carefully hand-painted hints to reach destination SMS. may your journey be a safe and comfortable one, and welcome to Saalburg!
