You still are in South Burgundy, the southern scents are showing! Walking in Mâcon is definitely pleasant, chiefly during a guided visit. In our vineyard, vines reign on hills and lot of typical villages shelter old wash houses, “cadoles” (little stone houses), bakers’s owen and winemakers’ houses. On the other side of the Saône River, the Bresse landscapes unfold before your eyes. In the Mâconnais area, there’s always something to do: water sports, leisure parks, tourist visits, swimming pools, water complexes, walks, caves and prehistoric museums... U bevindt zich in het zuiden van Bourgondië en dat merkt u meteen aan het aantrekkelijke, typisch mediterrane karakter van deze stad. In de wandelstraten van Mâcon is het aangenaam flaneren: om de stad beter te leren kennen wordt er een begeleide rondleiding aangeboden (zie hiernaast). Het heuvelachtig landschap van de wijnstreek wordt prachtig overheerst door de wijngaarden. Overal vindt men er van die schilderachtige dorpjes met lavoirs (openbare wasplaatsen), cadoles (oeroude wijnbouwershuisjes),

bakovens voor brood en wijngaardhuizen. Langs de andere oever van de Saône, strekt zich dan weer het landschap van de Bresse uit. In de Mâconnais valt er altijd wel iets te beleven : watersporten, recreatieparken, historische bezienswaardigheden, zwembaden, meren en rustige water vlakken, wandelingen, grotten en prehistorische musea… Noch befinden Sie sich im Süden des Burgund, wo sich mediterrane Wohlgerüche bereits bemerkbar machen. In den Fußgängerzonen von Mâcon macht das Flanieren Spaß: An einer Führung lernt man die Stadt am besten kennen (siehe nebenstehende Information). Im Weinbaugebiet sind es natürlich die Reben, die an den Hängen das Bild der Landschaft bestimmen. In den malerischen Dörfern trifft man überall auf Waschhäuser, „Cadoles“ genannte Winzersteinhütten, Brotöfen und Winzerwohnhäuser. Auf der anderen Seite der Saône erstreckt sich die Landschaft der Bresse. Im Mâconnais gibt es immer etwas zum Unternehmen: Wassersport, Erlebnisparks, Besuch von historischen Stätten, Ausflüge, Grotten und Museen der Vorgeschichte.

The visit starts with the 18th century town hall, Carnot Street and Saint Pierre church, built in the 19th century. Then, Residence Soufflot with its barrel to abandon children. The “Place aux Herbes” and the Wooden House with its saucy sculptures. Straddling the Saône River, Saint Laurent Bridge, built in the 6th century. A few minutes walk from there, the unequal towers of old Saint Vincent cathedral. Saint Vincent church, erected under Napoleon the 1st, the General hospital with its dome and the Hôtel Sénecé, a Regency building, housing the Lamartine Museum. De wandeling start aan het Stadhuis van de XVIIIe eeuw, langs de Carnot straat, de kerk van Saint-Pierre die gebouwd werd in de 19e eeuw. Verderop is er de Résidence Soufflot, met een ton voor te vondeling gelegde kinderen. Op de Place aux Herbes bevindt zich het Maison de Bois, een houten huis uit de renaissance met pikant houtsnijwerk. Om de Saône over te steken neemt men de uit de XIe eeuw daterende Pont de Saint-Laurent. Op enkele minuten loopafstand : de ongelijke torens van de voormalige kathedraal Vieux SaintVincent, de kerk Saint Vincent die onder Napoleon I werd opgericht, het Hôtel-Dieu hospitaal met haar koepel. Gevolgd door het Hôtel Sénecé in régencestijl waar men het Lamartine Museum kan bezichtigen.

Der Rundgang beginnt beim Rathaus, dem „Hôtel de Ville“ aus dem 18. Jahrhundert,Rue Carnot, Kirche Saint-Pierre, erbaut im 19. Jhd. Etwas weiter entfernt die „Résidence Soufflot“ mit ihrem Fass für ausgesetzte Kinder. Der „Place aux Herbes“, an dem sich das „Maison de Bois“ mit seinen anzüglichen Schnitzereien befindet. Die Saône überspannt die aus dem 11. Jahrhundert stammende Brücke von Saint-Laurent. Nach wenigen Minuten zu Fuß erscheinen die ungleichen Türme der Kathedrale „Vieux Saint-Vincent“, die unter Napoleon I errichtete Kathedrale Saint-Vincent und das Krankenhaus „Hôtel-Dieu“ mit seinem Dom. Danach folgt das im Régence-Stil erbaute Stadtpalais „Hôtel Sénecé“, in dem man das „Musée Lamartine“ besuchen kann.

Toont werken uit de XVIe en XXe eeuw, archeologische en etnografische verzamelingen.

Opgravingen hebben een twintigtal sarcofagen en de funderingen van een in de VI-de eeuw gebouwde kerk blootgelegd. Het is een uniek oord in heel Zuid-Bourgogne.

Die archäologische Ausgrabungsstätte von Saint-Clément (Plan A - A3) Die Ausgrabungen förderten ein gutes Dutzend Sarkophage und die Grundmauern einer im 6. Jahrhundert errichteten Kirche zutage. Es ist eine für das Südburgund einzigartige Stätte.

Born in Mâcon, Lamartine spent a happy childhood in the Milly Lamartine’s house (Map B – C10). Once married, the poet settled down in Saint Point Castle (p 23). There is a statue representing Lamartine on the esplanade with the same name.

Eenmaal gehuwd zal de Dichter zich in het familiekasteel Château de Saint-Point installeren (Zie blz. 23). Er werd een standbeeld van hem opgericht op de esplanade die zijn naam draagt.

Vieux Saint-Vincent (Plan A - D5)

The museum shows works from the 16th to 20th century, archaeological and ethnographical collections.

Many sarcophagi found in the basement. In the ground and elevation, vestiges of several edifices ranging from 6th century funeral basilica to 19th century church. It is the only visible site from that period in all Southern Burgundy.

This 117 km long former railway starts from the former Charnay-Lès-Mâcon train station (Map B – E11) and goes through Cluny. It snakes over 21 km through the Lamartine Valley, Solutré and Vergisson rocks and the Mâconnais vineyards.
