Welcome to TAKEPART 2012 June 23 – July 8 “In this Olympic year of sport TAKEPART, Brighton & Hove’s Festival of sport and physical activity is providing you with the opportunity to take part in activities whatever your age, interest or experience. Over the two weeks there are hundreds of different sports on offer across the city, many of which are free. I hope you enjoy this celebration of sport.” Councillor Geoffrey Bowden,Chair of Economic Development and Culture Committee, Brighton & Hove City Council Sally Gunnell OBE - Olympic, European, World and Commonwealth 400m hurdles title holder - www.sallygunnell.com

TAKEPART is now in its 5th year and I am delighted to once again support such a fantastic community sports festival. Events like TAKEPART help to build on the momentum and enthusiasm generated by Britain’s year of prestigious sporting events and work with the public at a local level. There is a natural synergy with my ‘Workplace Well Being’ programmes and initiatives of this kind which encourage adults and children of all ages to keep fit and healthy.

Ben Quilter - Double World and European Champion Judo player representing Great Britain at the Paralympics.

I’m proud to be supporting TAKEPART once again in this important 2012 year of sport. I’ve been involved since 2008 through Brighton Judo Club and I’m looking forward to coming down to the launch event in Preston Park.

Sophia Warner – Great Britain Paralympic Athlete My family and I had a great time last year! It is an ideal way to try out every sporting activity imaginable and not just for the kids. In such a poignant year for sport, this event is all about inclusion and giving every person in the community an opportunity to find their sport or something that they enjoy.

The TAKEPART Festival is one of a number of initiatives supported by the Sports Development Team. Our aim is to support more people to take part in high quality sport and physical activity in Brighton & Hove. Do you want to discover fun activities to do with your friends and family?

11/1/11 13:52:40

The Sports Development Team are working with Active Sussex to promote Sport Makers. Sport Makers offers some of the most exciting volunteering opportunities in Brighton. As a Sport Maker you’ll have to chance to get close to the action at some of Brighton’s most exciting sporting events, including Paddle Round the Pier and activities celebrating the arrival of the Olympic Torch in the city.

Do you want to get fitter and improve your health and wellbeing? Are you interested in becoming a sports volunteer or coach? Does your sports club need training or support to help run its activities? What ever your age, ability or experience, if you’d like our support please give us a call on 01273 292724 Did you know you can search our database of over 450 local sports clubs and groups by visiting www.activeforlife.org.uk Our activity programmes include: Summer Fun Sports Courses, Active for Life, Healthwalks and many more. The Sports Development Team can help and we’d love to hear from you!

There’s free training and Adidas Kit, as well as the chance to win some fantastic sporting prizes. By giving just a few hours of your time you really will be ‘making sport happen’ in Brighton, helping to create a sporting legacy for your city.

Or simply visit: www.brighton-hove.gov.uk or send an email to sports.info@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Nominate your local sporting champions and community stars! www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/sportsawards 32
