Brighton &Summer Hove 2012 Includes n What’s O
Brighton & Hove – sparkles in the Summer! The city by the sea is the perfect place to make the most of summer with sun, sea and sensational events… Whether it’s a traditional British Summer (wet!) or the sun is splitting the pavements there is plenty going on to keep the whole family happy. May is the big Festival month in the city with the Brighton Festival (5 – 27 May), Brighton Fringe (5 – 27 May), the Artists Open Houses & HOUSE (weekends in May) and the Great Escape (10 – 12 May) festivals bringing thousands of events, including a lot of free ones, to the city throughout the month. But it doesn’t end there! In June FatBoy Slim returns with the Big Beach Bootique (1 & 2 June) at the Amex Community Stadium. This is the first music concert to take place at the football ground and the two day event will include special guests Carl Cox and Nero. The annual London to Brighton Bike Ride (17 June) will see approximately 27,000 cyclists arriving in the city raising funds for the British Heart Foundation. Fashionistas will love the Brighton Fashion Week (30 May – 3 June) with catwalks, shows and presentations. At the end of the month the city is turning Japanese as the Japan Festival (22 June – 1 July) returns for its fifth year with an eclectic mix of events including Japanese whiskey tasting, fancy dress, retro games nights, films and plenty of Japanese food. The big summer event is Paddle Round the Pier (7 & 8 July), the largest beach festival in Europe. Get active with land and water-based sports such as beach tennis, orbing, skating, wakeboarding and of course the title event where contestants try and paddle something unusual around the pier. Later in the month the Olympic Torch Relay (17 July) will be overnight in the city with free evening celebrations at the Sussex County Crickt Ground and in August JLS (27 August) will be playing a special concert at the Cricket Ground as well. Also in August it’s the Brunswick Festival with stalls, street theatre and live music. So no matter what the weather’s doing it’s going to be hot in Brighton & Hove! Read on for details of all the shows, events and exhibitions taking place at venues across the city this summer.
Enjoy the season!
