ÆRØ – MAKE TIME

Welcome to Ærø

‘Take your time’ – so says the message written on the red heart hanging on a wall in Ærøskøbing. And that is exactly what Ærø encourages you to do. It’s easy to enjoy quality time with each other on Ærø, as the pace of life is notably different here. Perhaps that’s due to the simple fact that you arrive here by ferry – that Ærø is a place you seek out, not a place you just happen to be at.

Discover Ærø’s fascinating scenery

Ærø’s scenery is an experience in itself, and every season brings its own flavour. Thanks to Ærø’s relatively small size, you will always be close to one of the island’s many fascinating landscapes, no matter where you spend your vacation.

One of the top natural sights on Ærø is the cliff known as Voderup Klint, which stretches as far as the eye can see and offers marvellous sunsets. Another must-see sight is Gråsten Nor – the largest continuous grassland area in the Fyn region. Here, you might be able to see the protected broad-leaved march orchid. If you are interested in birds and plants, the place to go is the cuspate foreland known as Næbbet – The Beak – which is dotted with small ponds. Learn more about Ærø’s nature at visitaeroe.com

Experience R On Foot Or On Bike

Ærø is a perfect choice for a biking or hiking vacation. Ærø has 150 km of scenic roads with little to no traffic and countless hiking paths taking you past stunning landscapes and grazing cattle and through idyllic villages with hollyhocks and half-timbered houses. All of Ærø’s buses are free of charge – all year round. So if you get tired on your hike, getting back home is easy.

Golf With A View

Ærø is home to Denmark’s only seaside golf course where the sea is visible from every green. Located at Ærø’s north-western tip, the 18-hole course encircles a lighthouse – Skjoldnæs Fyr – and is itself surrounded by the sea on three sides. This is the type of golfing experience that you otherwise go to Ireland or Scotland for. And even if you’re not a golfer, the course is worth a visit just for the splendid views of the sea. Enjoy The Coastline

Despite its small size, Ærø has 80 km of coastline and there are plenty of ways to enjoy it. Throughout the year, you can go fishing, and the shallow beaches are perfect for stand-up paddling – you can rent equipment on the island. If you are into kitesurfing, wind conditions are often good at both Vesterstrand and Eriks Hale, and kayaks are available for rent in both Marstal and Ærøskøbing. Other options include renting a boat, going diving, or taking a sailing trip around the archipelago. Read more at visitaeroe.com

Local Culinary Experiences

Ærø has a real nice climate, perfect for growing vegetables, fruits, and berries. As a result, there are plenty of roadside stalls across the island tempting you with all the best that nature has to offer, such as large walnuts and even figs, if you stop by at the right time of year.

Besides the delicious fresh produce, Ærø is home to a number of excellent food and beverage producers, such as Ærø Ismageri (ice cream), Hattesens Konfektfabrik (liquorice allsorts), Ærø Whisky, and Ærø Bryggeri (beer) – to name a few.

Ærø also has something as exotic as a tobacco plantation serving the local cigar producer, Ærø Cigar. Several of the local companies offer guided tours – with samples, of course. Find all of them at visitaeroe.com

ÆRØ’S EATERIES

At Ærø’s restaurants, you can get everything from classic Danish or Chinese dishes to experimental gourmet food all year round.
