Fort Wayne Spirit

Throughout the year, special events provide opportunities for learning and interacting with history!
Looking for other ways to experience Fort Wayne’s history? Attend any one of our minor league games to celebrate our sports heritage – did you know that Fort Wayne was the original home for the Detroit Pistons and the site of the first baseball game played under lights?
For a taste of our history, look no further than the apple! Fort Wayne is the home of Johnny Appleseed’s gravesite and host to the Johnny Appleseed Festival – a period-authentic festival held in September, full of food, entertainment, and reenactments. Keep a lookout for apple-themed aspects throughout the city, including our minor league baseball team, the TinCaps, and their mascot Johnny TinCap!

Double Bacon Cheeseburger at Bravas
The Best Burgers in Fort Wayne By Brett Gauger
We’ve hit the streets in search of Fort Wayne’s best burgers and discovered that this one classic dish can be served so many ways! Throughout the Summit City you’ll find delicious burgers served at Irish pubs, hot dog stands, and exclusive steakhouses. Read on to explore some of Fort Wayne’s most unique, mouthwatering selections.
Double Bacon Cheeseburger
Henry’s Burger
While Bravas began as a specialty hotdog cart, its storefront has turned into a major destination for some of the best burgers in Indiana. Try the Double Bacon Cheeseburger, featuring locally-sourced beef topped with American cheese, dijonnaise, freshly-grilled onions, and a delicious dose of bacon, assembled on a potato bun. And, you’re definitely going to want to include a side of Patatas Bravas.
When a burger is named after the eatery, you know it has to be good! Assembled on an onion bun, the 8-ounce ground beef patty is topped with your choice of cheese, lettuce, onion, pickles, mayonnaise, and German-style mustard.
Bravas | 3412 Fairfield Ave.
Classic Burger A small downtown establishment that has captured the hearts and taste buds of many, Powers Hamburgers are truly iconic in both size and taste. These slider burgers are covered with a tower of onions and ignite a mouthwatering sensation. They’re just that good.
Powers Hamburgers | 1402 Harrison St.
Cod Burger J.K. O’Donnell’s presents many more traditional options for burgers, but its Cod Burger has to take the cake here. A sensational taste of Irish fare, the house-made cod is topped with greens. Insider Tip: Ask for a side of the garlic aioli sauce for dipping.
J.K. O’Donnell’s | 121 W. Wayne St.
Henry’s Restaurant | 536 W. Main St.
Cheeseburger Nestled in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, Burger Bar has quickly become a favorite. Their crispy hamburgers and cheeseburgers are topped with lettuce, tomato, and—best of all—BB sauce. Place your order at the outdoor walk-up window, or order and dine inside!
Burger Bar | 223 W. Jefferson Blvd.
Big Buster If you’re looking for a classic, the Big Buster at Don Hall’s Hollywood Drive-In is it. This double-decker burger is the perfect combination of cheese, lettuce, and Hall’s special sauce. It’s no surprise that this long-time favorite also landed a spot as one of the “Top 10 Burgers in Indiana!”
