Is it schnitzel
OR TENDERLOIN?
s Indiana celebrates its 200th birthday in 2016, you’ll learn plenty about the Hoosier state in Hamilton County. There’s no better place to start than at Conner Prairie Interactive History Park in Fishers, where visitors experience history first-hand. Join a militia for the 1863 Civil War Journey, climb a four-story Treetop Outpost (opening July 2016), experience life in 1836 Prairietown, take an 1859 Balloon Voyage that includes a ride in a helium balloon, or visit an 1816 Lenape Indian Camp. Believe us when we say, this place makes it way fun!
“A Smithsonian affiliate, Conner Prairie Park lets the whole family step back in time to explore life as it was in the 19th century.”

Westfield was once an epicenter for Quakers and the Underground Railroad. A stroll through the Old Friends Cemetery sets the stage with interpretive panels, and a new musical in summer and a heritage walk in the fall give you the full story. A tour of Hamilton County’s history isn’t complete without a trip to the historic courthouse square in Noblesville, where you can see the jail cells that once housed Charles Manson and Ku Klux Klan leader, D.C. Stephenson and the bad boy of the Midwest, John Dillinger.
Then climb aboard a vintage railcar at the Indiana Transportation Museum, which offers a variety of year-round excursions along the 38 miles of the former Nickel Plate line. Railroads helped shape the future of Hamilton County, which has grown into one of the fastest-growing, most desirable places to live in the country, thanks to its small-town charm, upscale shops, restaurants and entertainment.
One of the most treasured culinary cuisines in Indiana is its breaded tenderloin sandwich with its roots deep in German heritage. This thin slice of pork loin, breaded and deep fried, is served on a bun. Restaurants often add their own flavors to the breading or toppings to make it their own. The Tenderloin Trail makes it easy to find the top tenderloins of Hamilton County.
The Monon Depot in Carmel’s Arts and Design District is home to the Carmel Clay Historical Society with fascinating exhibits. Arcadia and Sheridan also are home to locally owned stops and great local stories.

Brew-cation
ure, you’ve likely been on your fair share of vacations. But when’s the last time you indulged in a brew-cation? (Trust us—it’s a thing.) Hamilton County is bursting with craft breweries, so why not whip up a weekend itinerary to sip and sample your way across our 8 Great Towns?
LOCAL REVIEW ADAM, BREWERY EXPERT “The Hamilton County craft brewery scene is almost picturesque in that it encapsulates what so many craft brewers set out to do: be the neighborhood source for good beer. Take a trip on the Monon, or find a spot on the Noblesville square and you'll find amazing Hamilton County beer."
In Carmel, Danny Boy Beer Works got its start as a nano-brewery that evolved into the demand-driven facility it now operates from, with 10 of their own brews on tap daily. Nearby Union Brewing Company brews the old-school way, cask conditioning its artisan ales two barrels at a time to maximize flavor. UNION BREWING COMPANY, CARMEL
In downtown Westfield, Grand Junction Brewing serves up handcrafted concoctions in an 1800s era building. Savor its Amarillo Sunset, a double IPA with herbal and citrus notes, before heading over to Barley Island Brewing Company for a taste of their awardwinning lineup. (Ask for the story behind
COPPER STILL, NOBLESVILLE
Dirty Helen for a giggle.) Indy’s beloved Sun King Brewing Company recently opened a small-batch facility and tap room in Fishers. Go check it out, and don’t leave without sampling the Wee Mac
Still not satiated? Try Heady Hollow Brewing Company, Deer Creek Brewery or Deviate Brewing, the county’s newest breweries that opened in 2015. Check out VisitHamiltonCounty.com/2016 to learn how you can celebrate Indiana’s 200th birthday by lifting a pint on the Bicentennial Brew Tour with The BrewsLine offered January through May. GRAND JUNCTION BREWING COMPANY, WESTFIELD “I’m new to the area from Los Angeles and I have to honestly say that this is one of those places that can be in the middle of LA or comfortably in any brew town in Colorado. Along with the very cool brews, I was introduced to deep fried pickles and a tenderloin. Service was quick and always attentive. I’m glad I found it, it’ll be a regular spot!!!”
