Sunday 2nd August 2015 – a day to remember!

Kingston town centre will be open for business as usual on Prudential RideLondon event day (Sunday 2nd August) with a family-friendly Kingston Bike Festival creating a carnival atmosphere for residents and visitors. As well as lining the route, visitors to the town will be able to to pull up a deckchair and watch the action as the cyclists pass by, and catch up with the pro event on the big screens in the Market Place and Clarence Street.

Get on your bike and challenge your family and friends on the Rollapaluza, or pedal your way to 5 a day by making your own smoothie in Eden Walk Shopping Centre. Remember to make the most of all that Kingston’s variety of shops, restaurants, bars, cafés and market stalls have to offer. All in a DAY Morning Kick start your day Kick start your morning with a hearty breakfast at one of the many cafés along Castle Street or visit Costa or Sweet Revenge in the Market Place or Local Hero in Thames Street for your caffeine boost. Support your Friends and Family Rise early to come and support 25,000+ amateur cyclists as they tackle the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. Riders are expected between 6.50am and 11.00am, returning between 9.30am and 4.35pm, providing you with up to nine hours* to explore the town. Don’t miss the Prudential RideLondon Handcycle Classic, which will be launched by Euphonix choir at 8.30am in the Market Place. See timetable for more details. BIKEMANIA Look out along Clarence Street for Matti Hemmings, a UK BMX Champion and the British Freestyle Unicycle Champion. You may even see a Penny Farthing pass you by. Head to the Market Place to improve your bike security with Kingston’s Metropolitan Police Safer Transport Police. Smoothie Bikes at Eden Walk Free smoothies… well you have to earn them! Head to the main square at Eden Walk Shopping Centre to cycle your way to a refreshing smoothie. Explore Kingston’s Heritage Join Kingston’s Tour Guides at 11.00am at All Saint Church gates in the Market Place, where you will learn about the seven Saxon kings who were crowned in Kingston.

Evening Dine Along the Riverside For something a bit more relaxing, make your way to the river and wind down at one of Kingston’s gorgeous restaurants, including CAU for a mouthwatering steak or Comptoir Libanais for some beautiful Lebanese food with an ice cold beer. Or if you want to unwind with a cold drink along the riverfront head to The Bishop, The Ram or Woody’s and enjoy the sunset. ONGALS Babbling Comedy at The Rose Theatre Head to the Rose Theatre at 8.30pm to see the multi award-winning ONGALS Babbling Comedy, as part of the Kingston Welcomes Korea Festival. “The Korean quartet ONGALS display impressive slapstick, clown, mime, exaggerated physical comedy, beatbox brilliance and exceptional juggling skills.” (Joe Calleri, Melbourne Herald Sun). Afternoon Cycling After lunch get into the cycling spirit and cheer on the 150 worldclass cyclists en route to victory. There are excellent viewing points throughout the Town Centre. Riders are expected between 2.00pm and 2.10pm, returning between 5.30pm and 6.00pm, giving you almost three and a half hours to explore the Town and enjoy some refreshments along the stunning riverside. Brush at the Rose Theatre The Korean company Haddangse performs Brush at 2.30pm as part of Kingston Welcomes Korea Festival. This family company tells stories for children of all ages by mime, music and drawing.

GETTING TO KINGSTON on sunday 2nd august By Bicycle

There is ample cycle parking in the Town Centre – please see map for details.

Car Parks All car parks in Kingston Town Centre (except Cattle Market) will be open as usual (although access routes may change due to road closures). From the North Head to John Lewis, Bentalls and the Seven Kings Car Parks which will be accessible from the North via Sury Basin. From the South and East Car parks south of Eden Street will be accessible from the South. The Bittoms Car Park is accessible by The Bittoms. Brook Street, Ashdown Road and Fairfield NCP are accessible via Wheatfield Way – please see map for details.
