Finland’s park capital

Kotka invites you to fall in love with azaleas, rhododendrons, water motifs and maritime views. Grab your city bike and spend a wonderful day on the Kotkansaari park tour.

Sapokka Water Park

Let the green oasis of the Sapokka Water Park and its numerous water motifs enchant you. Marine Kotka’s brightest jewel will charm you with its plants and nearly 20-meter high waterfall.

Katariina Seaside Park

In the Katariina Seaside Park, built around the Svensksund fortress ruins, you’ll feel like you are on an island in the middle of the open sea. The park, with many kinds of activities, will entertain the whole family on a summer day.

Palotornivuori Park

From the Palotorninvuori park, look over the legendary Kotka main harbour and enjoy the summer evening sunsets. In the park, you will also find several statues and monuments, such as Oskari Jauhiainen’s Ahtaajat statue and the air defence monument Ritsa.

Isopuisto

The people of Kotka relax on a summer’s day in the lovely plantations of Isopuisto, accompanied by majestic pine trees and the awe-inspiring Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, the only surviving building from the 18thcentury Svensksund fortress town.

Sibelius Park

In the park named after master composer Jean Sibelius, the people of Kotka meet in the heart of Kotkansaari which you might remember and recognize from its wonderful fountain.

Fuksinpuisto Park

In Fuksinpuisto Park, marvel at the country’s most handsome azaleas and Samuli Alonen’s sculpture Siivekkät. Also stop by the nearby Haukkavuori observation tower to watch the scenery over the city.

Redutti-Kotka Herb garden

Get to know around a hundred different herbs and medicinal plants in the enchanted garden of the restored Svensksund fortress redoubt. In the butterfly hotel, gaze over the embankment of red echinaceas and lavender, to the landscape where the Kymi River meets the Gulf of Eastern Finland.
