Lancashire’s varied landscape is home to a fantastic array of wildlife, combine that with animal attractions and you’re almost guaranteed to find your favourite animal in the county. From the largest and rarest animals at Blackpool Zoo to lovable farm animals at one of the farm parks or rare wild birds at one of the nature reserves.

SEA LIFE Blackpool
Take a trip to SEA LIFE Blackpool and prepare for a world of glistening scales, colourful tentacles, and razor-sharp teeth as you discover over 2,500 creatures! From the sunny shoreline to the darkest depths of the ocean, there is a whole underwater world to discover here at SEA LIFE Blackpool, taking you face to fin with life under the waves for over 30 years.
Blackpool Zoo
Blackpool Zoo provides a haven of peace, tranquillity and over 1000 animals in 37 acres of traditional, spacious parkland and lakes, as well as offering an educational yet fun day out for all the family. All your favourites are here – big cats, elephants, giraffes, gorillas, orangutans and, of course, ‘Blue Peter’ TV stars, the sealions.
HORSING AROUND
World Horse Welfare Penny Farm
Penny Farm is a horse rescue and rehabilitation centre ran by the charity World Horse Welfare. Meet the ponies and find out more about the work of the charity as you explore the fields, paddocks and activity trails around the farm.
HAPPA, Shores Hey Farm
A hidden delight set in acres of green space, overlooking the Thursden Valley in Burnley, HAPPA provides everything you need to keep the children entertained. From meeting and learning about the horses and ponies, to taking part in the ‘Facts with Fergus’ outdoor trail before enjoying some delicious homemade food and cakes on the onsite café.
DOWN ON THE FARM
Mrs Dowsons Farm Park
There really is so much to see at Mrs Dowsons Farm, with hundreds of animals waiting to meet you and your family. You can find out exactly what it’s like to be a farmer, even muck in and help to bottle feed the lambs, feed the hungry alpaca or handle baby chicks. Later this year, Mrs Dowsons Farm park will be opening the brand-new indoor play centre, so stay tuned.
Bowland Wild Boar Park
Come home to nature. Visit Bowland Wild Boar Park, situated in the Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Packed with adventure for the whole family, see the animals, explore their habitats and meet their smaller residents in the animal petting area. Adventure around the 62 acres, by foot or tractor rides, taking in their lovely nature trails and views.
Thornton Hall Country Park
Experience hands on animal encounters ontheir traditional working farm. Climb on boardtheir safari ride and take a trip to our DeerPark then enjoy some delicious food in theironsite Rooster’s Diner while the little onesburn off energy in their huge fun filled playbarn, jumping pillows, outdoor play are andmore. GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL
The Bee Centre
Visit The Bee Centre and enter the incredible world of the honeybee. If you are feeling adventurous you can book onto one of their ‘Beekeeping Experiences’ where you will receive an introduction to honeybees and beekeeping from one of their experienced beekeepers after which you will be able to put on one of their beekeeping suits and get ‘up close and personal’ with their bees.
Lowlands Farm Alpacas
A meet and greet includes a little talk on alpacas and then you get to take one of the lovely boy alpaca around the beautiful nature walk, with a high chance of seeing hares and buzzards and much more wildlife. Guests will enjoy a little pit stop at the wood so you can take group photos as the alpacas graze on the grass, then take them back home to give them a treat.
The Alpaca Walking Experience
Meet and greet the beautiful alpacas or take them for a private walk on this working sheep farm, located in the rural village of Samlesbury on a 35- acre smallholding. Discovery their quirky ways and individual personalities, with an informative talk. Feed them their favourite treats and learn lots of alpaca fact too.

WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre
There’s a fantastic day ahead of you at Martin Mere Wetland Centre. Enjoy splashing, dipping, playing, feeding, paddling and getting up-close-and-personal to some of nature’s most wonderful wildlife. 800 acres of adventure to flutter hearts, home to thousands of rare birds; a cheeky family of otters; an all-star cast of pretty pink flamingos and a group of white storks to mention a few.
Brockholes Nature Reserve
Explore the flagship, Lancashire Wildlife Trust nature reserve and you’ll see the wide variety of wildlife on offer. You can take a walk along the River Ribble, explore the ancient woodland and amble around the lakes. There are hides, paths and viewing points that have been specifically designed to allow you to get closer to nature and wildlife without disturbing it.
RSPB Leighton Moss and Morecambe Bay Nature Reserve
This popular nature reserve is home to a variety of wonderful creatures – from birds and bugs to bats and otters. If you are lucky, you may even spot our largest resident, the red deer. Children can have great fun discovering nature by taking part in seasonal activity quizzes or turning detective with our Wildlife Explorer Backpacks, available all year round.
