Lebanon Area Fair Celebrates County’s Top Industry The Lebanon Valley is a community graced with fertile farmlands and hard-working farm men and women. Thanks to that winning combination, agriculture is Lebanon County’s top industry. For nearly 60 years, a small army of area volunteers and generous local sponsors have worked to celebrate the importance of agriculture through the annual Lebanon Area Fair. The first Lebanon Area Fair was held in 1957 and has grown and expanded in every subsequent year. In 1969, a group of 4-H leaders arranged to purchase the land now known as the Lebanon Area Fairgrounds. At that time, the Fairgrounds included only one building – a partially completed refreshment stand. Today, the facilities boast five indoor exhibition buildings, three refreshment stands, five barns, two horse rings and a track area with bleacher seating and a stage, all housed on 70+ beautiful acres. Lebanon Area Fair Board member Richard “Dick” Kreider of Lebanon has been involved in the Fair since its very first year. "They wanted to have a showplace for youth in agriculture," said Kreider, "and provide a permanent location for 4-H, FFA and the agricultural community." Over thirty years later, the nonprofit Lebanon Area Fair continues its tradition. Each year, thousands of volunteer hours are dedicated to conduct this premier agricultural and entertainment event which attracts 50-60,000 visitors. The 2015 Lebanon Area Fair will take place July 25 – August 1. In addition to livestock, dairy, horse, poultry, rabbit and cavy exhibits from area farmers and 4-H and FFA members, the Fair features a tremendous line up of familyfriendly entertainment, exciting track events, and the best food you’ll eat all summer. “The Lebanon Area Fair is really a community event,” said Fair Board Chairwoman Sue Werner of Jonestown. “We try to have competitive exhibits for people from all walks of life, and of all generations. There truly is something for everyone.” Take some time to explore the Lebanon Area Fair’s website at www. lebanonareafair.com to find a schedule of this year’s events. Contact the Fair Office for more information at 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon, 717-273-3795, or at lebanonareafair@gmail.com.

What Meier did architecturally to the house is a prime significance for understanding the history and development of material culture in 18th century Pennsylvania. The eastern part of the house remains Germanic in detail but the western half is composed of parlors, bedrooms and a central hall all of which exhibit an English Georgian influence inspired buy Palladian architecture. The Meier Homestead is being preserved for appreciation of local heritage.
