The ancient town of Trakai is situated 28 km away from the capital Vilnius. Senasis pa‰tas (19a.), Karaim˜ g. 5 ·∞ namà 1810 m. pastatò vienuoliai dominikonai. 1864 m. vienuolynà uÏdarius, pastatas atiteko Trak˜ apskrities policijos valdybai, o 1887 m. ãia ∞kurta Trak˜ pa‰to ir telegrafo kontora, taip pat apsigyvena tarnautojai. Dabar ãia ∞sikrusi Trak˜ istorinio nacionalinio parko direkcija.
The Church of the Visitation of The Holy Virgin Mary (15th c .), Sod˜ street 8 In 1409 Vytautas, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, was funding the parish church of Trakai. The church is famous for the Trakai picture of the Mother of God. The picture is reputed to have been painted in Constantinople in 1123. Then, in 1390, the Emperor Emmanuel II Palaeolog presented it to Vytautas.
The Old Post Office (19th c.), Karaim˜ street 5. Dominican monks built this house in 1810. When the monastery was closed in 1864, the building passed to the Police Board of Trakai region. In 1887, the Trakai post and telegraph was established here. Now, the directorate of Trakai Historical National Park located there.
Pusiasalio pilis (14 a.), K´stuãio g. Manoma, kad ‰ià pil∞ pastatò kunigaik‰tis K´stutis iki 1377 m. Pilis baigta statyti valdant Vytautui DidÏiajam, 1414 - 1430 m. Pil∞ saugojo 11 gynybini˜ bok‰t˜. Po 1430 m. Pusiasalio pilyje rezidavo Lietuvos Didieji kunigaik‰ãiai ·vitrigaila ir Îygimantas K´stutaitis. 1655 m. pilis buvo sugriauta ir nebeatstatyta. The Peninsula Castle (14th c.), K´stuãio street The building of the castle is reputed to has been started by Duke K´stutis in 1377 and was finished during the reign of Vytautas Grand Duke, in 1414-1430. The castle was guarded with the help of 11 defence towers. After 1430, the castle was the residence of the Great dukes of Lithuania – Îygimantas K´stutaitis and ·vitrigaila. In the year of 1655, the castle was destroyed and not rebuilt.

A chapel is thought to have been built in 17th century in Market Square as a pole for posters. Later it was called in the name of St. John Nepomuk, the patron of fishermen and towns, surrounded by water. This pole stands on a former town square. It was the center of the town.

Dominican Monastery ( 18th c.), K´stuãio street 4 In the end of the 18th century, the Dominican monks started to build a big church in the territory of the Peninsula Castle. In 1822-1823, in one of the unfinished nave of the church the monks equipped a chapel, in the other – a monastery. Since 1990, the administration of Trakai History Museum has established itself in the premises of the former Dominican monastery. It is believed that the Grand Duke Vytautas brought the Karaites to Trakai after his marches to Crimea. They served as guards of the castle and also bodyguards of Vytautas. Civilians cultivated land, were good craftsmen and traders. Karaimu street attracts tourists by its distinctive architecture: which includes a back wall with a primary feature three windows facing the street due to the lack of space.
