The Overflight festival is dedicated to presenting the creativity of Ljubljana's Mladinsko and Glej Theatres, two of the most renowned Slovenian theatrical companies involved in producing socially relevant theatre. All the festival performances are surtitled in English (except for Nora Gregor which will have Italian and German surtitles) in order to be suited to international audiences. The programme of this year's edition of the festival includes sixteen productions from the Mladinsko and Glej Theatres, many of which have previously successfully toured various European stages. The two theatres' innovative approaches to theatre-making and continuous exploration of new possibilities for theatrical expression are clearly reflected in the concept of the Overflight festival. www.prelet2015.si

Druga Godba is a festival of world and, to a lesser extent, contemporary jazz music. It ranks among Europe's best festivals of alternative underground music difficult to fit neatly into musical categories. Druga Godba is well known for bringing to Ljubljana leading artists from different backgrounds and musical traditions who draw inspiration from traditional folk music and are committed to creative musical exploration. Due to its enthusiasm for ‘discovering’ less well-known music from around the globe, its line-up is often ahead of trends. This year, the influential British magazine Songlines once again ranked the Druga Godba festival among the world's top 25 best international music festivals, for the fifth time so far. www.drugagodba.si

NSK FROM KAPITAL TO CAPITAL
the Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia
12 May -17 Aug, Museum of Modern Art
From Kapital to Capital is a retrospective offering a complete cross section of work by Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), a Slovenian art collective that left an indelible mark on the Yugoslav art scene of the 1980s, when Slovenia was still part of the former Yugoslavia. Even by world standards, the collective's oeuvre is considered to be one of the most provocative ones in recent art. NSK's 'retroavant-garde' approach subverted ideological symbolism, national myths, and ideas about originality and authenticity. The collective pursued coordinated activities across different fields of art. Much of the credit for its prominent place in art history goes to the visual arts group Irwin and the cult alternative music band Laibach. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays, holidays 6 www.visitljubljana.com
Miran Kambič: Art Nouveau Ljubljana and the Architect Maks Fabiani photographic exhibition 16 Jan - 14 May, Tivoli Park This open-air exhibition brings together 116 photographs of the Art Nouveau architectural heritage in Ljubljana. Apart from presenting the city's rich Art Nouveau heritage, the exhibition also draws attention to the significance of this international artistic movement as a cultural factor common to the entire Europe of its time. By developing local variants of the new style, quite a few European architects contributed to national awakening in their countries. The exhibition's theme is related to the legacy of the architect Maks Fabiani, one of the originators and, in the period 1903-1904, members of the Art Nouveau movement in Austria, referred to as the Viennese Secession. Roman Stories from the Crossroads National Museum of Slovenia The National Museum of Slovenia's new permanent exhibition brings together archaeological finds from the time
when the territory of the present-day Slovenia was part of the Roman Empire. The exhibition was set up to mark the 2000th anniversary of Emona, a city that stood on the site of the present-day Ljubljana in Roman times. Over a thousand objects on exhibition include an imperial construction inscription dated to 14 or 15 AD, which provides evidence on the time of the foundation of Emona. Another important exhibit is a gilded bronze statue of a citizen of Emona, displayed complete with the reconstruction of its original position in the time of Emperor Trajan. The statue was part of a sepulchral monument obviously modelled on Trajan's Column in Rome. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 20:00. Closed: 1 May. Free entrance every first Sunday of the month Emona: A City of the Empire - historical exhibition 30 May, 2014 - 31 May, 2015, City Museum of Ljubljana This exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of the Roman city of Emona, built two millennia ago on the site of the present-day Ljubljana. It offers you an opportunity to learn about the city's birth, life and decline, the everyday life of its residents, and the heritage they left behind. The Roman colony of Emona was founded on the site of the present-day Ljubljana almost precisely 2000 years ago. The remnants of the city, which had existed for about 500 years, were being explored already in the Middle Ages. Since then, the knowledge about the ancient predecessor of Ljubljana has grown tremendously. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 21:00. Closed: Mondays
Doors: Spatial and Symbolic Passageways of Life 11 Oct - 31 Dec, Slovene Ethnographic Museum This exhibition presents doors as a part of cultural heritage, an element of everyday life, and an object that has many different symbolic meanings. It brings together all kinds of doors and related objects, from the oldest known doors, keys and locks sourced from various museums and private collections to state- of- the- art objects. Exhibited doors tell stories about families of different social and professional backgrounds from various parts of Slovenia, both those who the doors were made by and those who used them in daily life. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays We never imagined such a war exhibition marking the centenary of the First World War 22 Jun - 15 May, National Museum of Contemporary History Marking the centenary of the First World War, this exhibition focuses on human stories of civilians and those mobilized to fight on the side of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy during the war. The majority of exhibits are part of the surviving heritage coming from family legacies and various museum collections. Exhibited photographs and personal use items take visitors on a journey across the battlefields where Austro-Hungarian soldiers fought during the war. The exhibition presents some of the crucial events in the history of the First World War. It deals with the cause of the war, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, who is depicted in a large number of exhibited photographs, including several lesser known ones. It also
presents other historic events, from the declaration of war and the opening of the Isonzo Front to the death of Franz Joseph I of Austria and the attempt at the life of the prime minister, a dark premonition of the inevitable disintegration of AustriaHungary. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays, holidays Painting in Normandy: At the Dawn of Impressionism 14 Jan -3 May, National Gallery This exhibition showcases 72 paintings by French artists working in the period between 1850 and 1920. Exhibited paintings include works by Gustav Courbet, Pierre Bonnard, Jean-BaptisteCamille Corot, Claude Monet, and others. With the exhibition the Gallery continues the presentation of the late 19th and early 20th centuries art. Open: 10:00 - 18:00, first Thursday in the month 10:00 - 20:00. Closed Mondays Free entrance every first Sunday of the month

The American musician Merrill Garbus thoroughly shook up the American popular music scene with her project Tune-Yards' second album Whokill. Her wild and uncompromising musical style fuses elements of worldbeat, indie pop, Afrobeat, freak folk, and a lot more. The Moroccan-French musician of Berberian descent Hindi Zahra caused much surprise and excitement when her debut album Homemade was released on Blue Note in 2010. Five years later, crowned with fame, she is returning to Ljubljana's Druga Godba festival to perform music from her justreleased second album, Homeland. The concert is part of the 31st international Druga Godba festival.
