NSK FROM KAPITAL TO CAPITAL
the Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia
12 May -17 Aug, Museum of Modern Art
From Kapital to Capital is a retrospective offering a complete cross section of work by Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), a Slovenian art collective that left an indelible mark on the Yugoslav art scene of the 1980s, when Slovenia was still part of the former Yugoslavia. Even by world standards, the collective's oeuvre is considered to be one of the most provocative ones in recent art. NSK's 'retroavant-garde' approach subverted ideological symbolism, national myths, and ideas about originality and authenticity. The collective pursued coordinated activities across different fields of art. Much of the credit for its prominent place in art history goes to the visual arts group Irwin and the cult alternative music band Laibach. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays, holidays 6 www.visitljubljana.com
Doors: Spatial and Symbolic Passageways of Life 11 Oct 2014 - 31 Dec 2015, Slovene Ethnographic Museum More than 70 doors at the exhibition guide visitors to different parts of Slovenia, to families of different professions and social origins. They tell numerous stories about those who made them, those who lived behind them, about the rise and fall of families, the development of homes, about what we understand by privacy, openness and closedness, and so on − festive stories and everyday stories. Fran Vesel, Cronicle of Life in the Early 20th Century 11 Jun 2014 - 4 Oct 2015, Slovene Ethnographic Museum The exhibition Fran Vesel, Cronicle of Life in the Early 20th Century offers an insight into the life and work of one of the most important amateur photographers of the early 20th century - Fran Vesel. He created diverse opus of photographs, rich in motifs, which are now stored in several institutions.
The selected original photographs of Vesel, which will be open until 28. 6. 2015 (then the reproduction will be on display), show one part of Vesel's preserved photographic legacy, whose common thread is the city of Ljubljana and its inhabitants and his perception of photography as a document of transient time. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays 1001 Inventions: Discover the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization 2 Apr -2 Jul, Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre This world renowned exhibition for people of all ages presents the most important discoveries of the golden age of Islamic civilization, which profoundly affected the development of the modern world. It consists of more than 60 interactive exhibits. Visitors to the exhibition can familiarize themselves with the findings made by Islamic astronomers, learn how chess spread from India, find out how toothpaste was invented, acquaint themselves with interesting facts such as that that the first university was established by Fatima al-Fihri in 859, marvel at a famous elephant-shaped water clock, and learn about the invention of paper, the watermill, the distillation process, the development of the decimal system in mathematics, and much, much more. Opening hours: 9:00 -20:00 daily. A Century of the Poster 18 Jun - 1 Nov, Museum of Architecture and Design This exhibition explores the development of the poster as a mass medium in the 20th century Slovenia. It presents the best known Slovenian poster designers, who
initially came from the ranks of fine artists and architects, the advertising agencies they worked for, and the historical circumstances that shaped the development of poster design in Slovenia. Also presented are some of the special phenomena in Slovenian poster design, including the Slovenian National Liberation Front poster, which appeared during the Second World War, and the poster of the early post-war period of social realism. The years to follow saw a gradual development of modern, increasingly perfected and recognizably Slovenian poster design, whose exponents included Edvard Ravnikar and other members of the young post-war generation of Slovenian architects. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays Water 24 Jun - 30 Apr 2016, City Museum of Ljubljana This exhibition deals with one of the big themes of our time, the importance of water as a source of life, its significance for the mobility of people, goods, ideas, and knowledge, and its importance for religion, art, and language. The exhibition also focuses on water as part of the water circle and explores its role in ecology. Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, can boast a wealth of water sources, which have enabled more than 5,000 years of continuous settlement and remain to be accessible to all the city's residents today. The story about Ljubljana's high quality drinking water and efforts towards maintaining its quality can definitely serve as an inspiration in a time when drinking water is becoming an increasingly rare and valuable commodity worldwide. Even though we live on a water planet
70 per cent of whose surface is covered by water, drinking water on the planet Earth is actually scarce as 97 per cent of all the water on the Earth is salty sea water, two per cent of it is fresh water frozen in ice sheets, and only one per cent of it is available as drinking water. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 21:00. Closed: Mondays Matej Andraž Vogrinčič: Mass, installation 1 Jun - 18 Sep, TR3 Gallery With his latest site-specific installation entitled Mass, Matej Andraž Vogrinčič proves yet again that space can be used to precisely define an object and create interdependence between the two, as the object cannot function without space nor vice versa. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Saturdays 10:00 13:00. Closed: Sundays, holidays Admission free

The most controversial early song by Body Count, led by the rap star and renowned actor Ice T, is Cop Killer, which scandalized the public and attracted a blaze of publicity at the time of its release.

The Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club is headed by three musicians who also appeared in Wenders's documentary: the trumpeter Guajiro Mirabal, Barbarito Torres, who plays the Cuban lute-like instrument called laúd, and the guitarist Eliades Ochoa. 10 www.visitljubljana.com

Bob Dylan, well-known as a poet and singer of many faces, has been an active artist for more than half a century. He won renown for his folk protest songs in the 1960s.
Since the end of the 1980s he has been on his 'Never Ending Tour', which has so far included three concerts in Ljubljana. Bob Dylan put an indelible personal stamp on his time. Having begun his career in the early 1960s under the influence of the giants of American folk music Woody Guthrie and Elvis Presley, and risen to fame with his socially conscious protest songs such as Blowing in the Wind, The Times They Are a-Changing, and A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall, he swiftly developed into one of the greatest music artists of his time.
