Explore the flavours of Ljubljana. Join a guided city tour including tasting sessions of traditional Ljubljana dishes and get to know the city's culinary offerings and their historical tradition. The tour will give you an insight into traditional Ljubljana dishes, which are today mostly prepared using modern cooking methods and have recently been given a new life as part of the much-acclaimed Taste Ljubljana project. You will visit five different styles of restaurants and taste five different dishes as well as five selected drinks. Today, traditional Ljubljana food and drinks are coming alive in widely differing ways, for which reason the tour will take you to a street food outlet, a traditional 'gostilna' restaurant with a historical concept, a modern restaurant, another modern restaurant, this one following the model of socially responsible entrepreneurship and a catering outlet located at a popular lookout point. To learn about Ljubljana dishes' locally sourced ingredients, you will also visit the Ljubljana Central Market and the vegetable gardens located in the Krakovo area of Ljubljana.

31st International Biennial of Graphic Arts 28 Aug - 3 Dec, International Centre of Graphic Arts

The Biennial, held since 1955, is one of the world's most acclaimed events of its kind. The thematic point of departure for the main exhibition of this year's Biennial is 'Over you / you', a quick note borrowed from the corner of a drawing by the German contemporary artist Martin Kippenberger that led to all kinds of considerations that have come to underlie the conceptual framework of this year's edition of the Biennial. The main exhibition, whose curator is Nicola Lees, brings together both traditional and contemporary forms of graphic production, emphasizing their common political and aesthetic foundations. The Biennial's main exhibition is accompanied by exhibitions of work by the winner of the 30th edition of the Biennial and a number of other exhibitions and artistic events held at various exhibition venues. www.mglc- lj.si/bienale/ bienale_2015 8 www.visitljubljana.com

The Century of the Poster 18 Jun - 1 Nov, Museum of Architecture and Design This exhibition explores the development of the poster as a mass medium and the 20th century Slovenia. It presents the best known Slovenian poster designers, who initially came from the ranks of fine artists and architects, the advertising agencies they worked for, and the historical circumstances that shaped the development of poster design and Slovenia. Also presented are some of the special phenomena and Slovenian poster design, including the Slovenian National Liberation Front poster, which appeared during the Second World War, and the poster of the early post- war period of social realism. The years to follow saw a gradual development of modern, increasingly perfected and recognizably Slovenian poster design, whose exponents included Edvard Ravnikar and other members of the young postwar generation of Slovenian architects. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays

Water 24 Jun - 8 May 2016, City Museum of Ljubljana Through four main themes and various timelines, the exhibition presents the importance of water. It is essential for our survival, the mobility of humans, goods, ideas and knowledge, our mythologies and beliefs, art and language. The exhibition is also discussing water cycles and nature, their meaning and ecology. The first three themes build their stories through museum artefacts among which a larger wooden boat, presented to the public for the very first time, deserves a special mention. Other artefacts also include a rich glass collection, famous artworks by Slovenian artists and a selection of the most important artefacts from the collection of the Potočnik family, originating from the riverbed of the Ljubljanica. The fourth theme is presented with an interactive experimental element, primary intended for children’s experiential workshops. Guided tour and English on Sunday, 4 October at 13:00. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 21:00. Closed: Mondays María Elena González: The Tree Talk Series 28 Aug - 1 Nov, CD Gallery Exhibition by winner of the 30th Biennial of Graphic Arts within the scope of the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts Acclaimed for her sculptural installations, González’s artistic complexity reflects the rich diversity of contemporary graphic art. María’s work blends graphic art, performance events, installation and sound into a precisely devised and harmonic whole. The Tree Talk Series draws inspiration from a fallen birch tree whose bark she has flattened, and used to make drawings and etchings. She scanned,

that is, converted digitally, its furrowed markings and had them cut into a player- piano roll with a laser. While played, the patterns morph into a startling score, birch music that reminds us of the inner logic inherent and all natural patterns. Apart from drawings, graphic prints and etchings, Maria Elena Gonzales’s showcase will also feature the pianoplayer roll. Made exclusively for the Ljubljana exhibition, the new score will receive its world premiere at two concerts accompanying the show’s opening and closing ceremonies. The uniquely fluid and time- conditioned sonic “sculpture” forms part of the Forest exhibition. Notwithstanding its romantic texture, the work primarily aims at being exact and analytical, exploring the complexity of nature, of its structure, and establishing a subtle interrelationship between science and culture, particularly art. Open 10:00 - 18:00, Sundays 10:00 - 14:00

Plečnik Collection The new permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House and Trnovo presents the most important projects of the late architect. Plečnik's creativity comes to life through the plans, models and photographs of his creations such as the Zacherl House and Vienna, Prague Castle, the National and University Library and Ljubljana, the Ljubljana Central Market, Žale Cemetery, the Church of St. Michael at the Ljubljana Marshes and numerous other masterpieces. Several plans of Plečnik’s never realized visions are also on display. The Cathedral of Freedom, the master's vision of the Slovenian parliament, is especially worthy of our attention. Guided tours: every hour, on the hour (the last guided tour at 17:00). Groups must not contain more than seven people. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays.

Giles Round: Ljubljana, 1955 28 Aug - 3 Dec, Jakopič Gallery Exibition within the scope of the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts Jakopič Gallery hosts Giles Round. The English artist’s project is the interpretation of the history of the Biennial of Graphic Arts. Open 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays. Will Benedict: Bad Weather & Asad Raza: There is No East or West - photo exhibition & light installation 27 Aug - 2 Dec, Tivoli Park Open air exhibition on the occasion of the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts, Will Benedict and Asad Raza present two new commissions specially conceived for the Jakopič Promenade in Tivoli Park.

Morrissey is considered to be one of the most idiosyncratic, enigmatic and, as far as his public statements are concerned, controversial indie rock artists. Owing to his intellectual and poetic lyrics, which are mostly concerned with the themes of romance and social alienation, and his theatrical stage presence, Morrissey has influenced a large number of music artists. His famous fans include Oasis, Blur, Suede, Pulp, Bono, Outkast, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Deftones, Muse, Placebo, Dinosaur Jr., The National, and many others.

Apocalyptica are a band of classically trained cellists whose unusual acoustic approach to metal music was first presented to the public and 1996, when they released their first album, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, featuring cover versions of songs by Metallica. In the course of their successful career, Apocalyptica have published seven more albums of both their own music and covers of metal songs and classical pieces. The band's latest album, Shadowmaker, was released earlier this year. All the vocals on the album are by Franky Perez, who has also been engaged for the band's tour promoting the album.

Performing a carefully chosen repertoire of music, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra draws attention to the wealth of Finnish music. The orchestra's Ljubljana concert, which will mark the 150th birth anniversary of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, will feature a programme of music inspired by the great Northern epics, including a symphony that stands at a turning point and Sibelius's oeuvre. The Lahti Symphony Orchestra will be led by the renowned Finnish conductor Okko Kamu. The soloist will be the violinist Elina Vähälä, who gave her first concert with an orchestra at the age of twelve. Her playing has been poetically described as "a sound that sings, radiant and luminous".

Grigory Sokolov is considered to be one of the best pianists alive today. Before the 1980s, due to political situation, he did not perform much outside the Soviet Union. Completely devoted to music and unwilling to compromise his performance standards, Sokolov has for some years now exclusively been giving solo recitals. He gives deep consideration to each of his concert programmes and keeps working on it until the last minute. The first part of his upcoming Ljubljana concert will feature Franz Schubert's Sonata and A minor and a few early examples of the composer's romantic miniatures. Programme: F. Schubert
