SUN,
SAND,AND SEA
by Rick Stedman
When visiting Los Cabos, one thing you’ll soon discover — if you don’t already know — is that the inviting beaches are measured simply by sunrises and sunsets. Whether your interest lies in swimming, surfing, snorkeling, or romantic solitude, there is a beautiful beach to accommodate your every desire.
To ensure that Los Cabos beaches and those all around the world remain pristine and welcoming for generations to come, in 1987 the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) established the Blue Flag designation. In addition to beaches, FEE also certifies marinas and sustainable tourism boats around the world. As a nonprofit, FEE measures its impact and contribution to the tourism, safety, security, and sustainability of beaches and oceans worldwide while also promoting sustainable development through environmental education.
In 2024, 5,121 beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats in 51 countries around the world received the prestigious Blue Flag designation.
Whether you’re looking to dive into crystal-clear waters, lounge on golden sands, or simply take in the awe-inspiring views, Los Cabos offers a stunning beach for every type of traveler.
In Mexico, nearly a third of the 78 beaches that carry the Blue Flag designation are in Los Cabos. The 25 Los Cabos beaches receiving the FEE Blue Flag for 2024 were also awarded that same designation in 2025.
While most of those beaches are in Cabo San Lucas, other Blue Flag beaches can be found in the Tourist Corridor that connects Cabo San Lucas to San José del Cabo and the picturesque East Cape.
Greater Los Cabos beaches certified with the Blue Flag distinction include Acapulquito, Chileno, Corsario, El Surgidero, Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos, Grand Velas Los Cabos, Hacienda, Las Viudas, Palmilla, Santa María, La Ribera, La Gaviota, Médano Breathless, Médano Casa Dorada, Médano Club Cascadas de Baja, Médano ME Cabo, Médano Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, Médano Pueblo Bonito Rose, Médano Riu Palace Los Cabos, Médano Riu Palace Baja California,
Médano Riu Santa Fe, Médano Villa Del Palmar, Médano Villa El Arco, Médano Villa La Estancia, and Paradisus Los Cabos.
It’s clear to see that Los Cabos boasts a breathtaking collection of beaches, each with its own unique charm, from tranquil bays perfect for swimming to rugged coastlines ideal for adventurous surf seekers. Let’s explore some of the best beaches this incredible destination has to offer.
CABO SAN LUCAS
Without question, Médano Beach in the heart of Cabo San Lucas is the most popular swimming beach in the area. Featuring numerous quality hotels, Médano’s two-mile stretch of beach features soft sand, calm lapping waters, plenty of water sports, and lots of incredible scenery.
The Mango Deck Beach Club is front and center for nonstop action. Along with its daily
menu that attracts hungry beachgoers from breakfast till dinner, the Mango Deck features an all-day happy hour.
An early-morning stroll characteristically offers the best experiences at Médano Beach. Watching the sun rise on a deserted beach is an image you will cherish for years. But as the sun rises in the sky, so, too, do the number of visitors. In addition to swimming, a variety of water sports are plentiful along Médano, including jet-skiing, kayaking, scuba diving, and snorkeling.
While most of Médano Beach affords an incredible view of El Arco, local water taxis can get you up close in a matter of minutes. Near El Arco, visitors can enjoy Lover’s Beach as well as Divorce Beach nearby. Lover’s Beach promises a calm, swimmable beach, while Divorce Beach offers fierce waves and is not recommended for swimming.
THE CORRIDOR
Connecting the towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo is the 20-mile stretch
called The Corridor. Within this stretch of land, the Blue Flag–designated Santa María Beach features a sheltered cove that has quickly become a visitor favorite. Though it has limited facilities, Santa María offers idyllic swimming options. Chileno Beach, another Blue Flag bearer, features stunning turquoise waters that make it ideal for early-morning snorkeling and swimming.
SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO
Palmilla Beach, while not as calm as Santa María or Chileno beaches, is one of the area’s nicest swimmable beaches. It also has another draw: Palmilla is the best beach for whale watching between January and March.
Meanwhile, Acapulquito Beach is best known as a surfer’s haven. Welcoming both novices and seasoned longboarders, it is a sight to witness surfers riding the waves. For those wishing to simply observe the action from the shore, a great viewing location is the nearby Cabo Surf Hotel & Spa. There

Several beautiful spots offer calm, swimmable waters perfect for a refreshing dip.

Often dubbed the crown jewel of Mexico, this distinguished coastal getaway has beckoned visitors the world over for more than half a century. But what continually draws visitors to Land’s End, as Los Cabos is affectionately known? The answer is simple: pristine beaches and more than 350 days of annual sunshine. Below, you’ll discover the best swimmable beaches in Los Cabos where you can relax, swim, and soak up the Baja sun.
Médano Beach is the primary swimming beach in Cabo San Lucas. With its abundance of beachside restaurants, vendors, and lounge chair rentals, it can get crowded; but it’s a great place to enjoy some quality time in the water.
The Cannery Beaches is another great spot for swimming. Known for its serene waters and gentle waves, it offers a relaxing environment for those who want to hang out or make a splash.
Along The Corridor, Santa María is arguably one of the best snorkeling beaches
in Los Cabos thanks to its abundant coral reefs. Swimming and snorkeling are popular activities at this family-friendly beach, as well as at the nearby Chileno Beach with its calm bay. Palmilla Beach is also on the short list of best beaches in the area. Set on a crescentshaped coastline, this Blue Flag beach draws visitors for its calm waters and plentiful marine life.
One of the lesser-known beaches that offers quality swimming and snorkeling opportunities is Playa Bledito, also known as Tequila Cove by the locals. Set directly
is also the Mike Doyle Surf School housed within the hotel.
EAST CAPE
The Delphine Beach Club is the newest addition in the East Cape. In June 2024, Costa Palmas residents and guests were treated to the new open-air club nestled along the swimmable shores of the Sea of Cortés. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment, a bar serving signature cocktails, and dining options right on the beach. In addition, that beach that fronts Costa Palmas stretches two miles in length.
The sprawling 1,500-acre Costa Palmas resort is a 45-minute drive along the paved Hwy. 1/ Carretera Transpeninsular from the San José del Cabo International Airport.
One experience not to be missed is a visit to Cabo Pulmo Marine Park. A protected national park, Cabo Pulmo features gently lapping waves safe enough for children to play. Cabo Pulmo’s beautiful coral reef attracts snorkelers, too, making evident the dedication to preserving this magnificent natural treasure.
in front of the Hilton Los Cabos and Meliã Cabo Real on The Corridor, the calm waters of Playa Bledito offer ideal conditions for swimming, paddle sports, or simply soaking up the sun. Beachcombing and horseback riding are other fun options.
El Ganzo Beach is another hidden gem located just east of San José del Cabo. It lies within the resort community of Puerto Los Cabos, a magnificent master-planned community of 2,000 acres. El Ganzo Beach features pristine waters and offers a protected swimming area for beachgoers to enjoy.
RELAX AND RECHARGE
From luxurious beachfront spas and holistic wellness centers to world-class treatments inspired by Baja’s natural beauty, Los Cabos offers an array of wellness experiences that cater to every need.
by Shayne Benowitz
There’s an ancestral healing tradition on the Baja peninsula that dates back to the Mayan civilization. Today in Los Cabos, travelers can tap into this ancient wisdom at modern-day luxury resorts and spas. Known as curanderismo, Mexico’s folkloric healing traditions are carried out in temazcal sweat lodge ceremonies where herbs are steamed and songs are chanted in a purifying ritual presided over by a shaman. From traditional ceremonies to newfangled
interpretations, restorative hydrotherapy journeys, and results-oriented treatments, you’ll find a wealth of options when it comes to relaxing and recharging in luxurious Los Cabos spas. With rooftop yoga at sunset and beach boot camp at dawn, inspiring panoramas of the crashing sea add another element of relaxation to the transformative wellness experience.
FOLKLORIC WELLNESS TRADITIONS
Inside the Waldorf Astoria Spa, nestled inside the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal resort, the ancient Mayan tradition of curanderismo is alive and well. Drawing inspiration from lunar cycles and the sea, the spa is home to a team of healers providing a menu of Mexican folk rituals and wellness therapies such as the indigenous herbal detox, which
involves an herbal energy cleanse, mud wrap, and detoxifying massage with rosemary oil. There’s also a menu of sumptuous soak rituals designed to harness the ocean’s energy where spa-goers bathe with products like a hydrating seaweed treatment, hibiscus bath salts, and body polish and oil, all while sipping organic tea by candlelight in a black algae face mask. The Waldorf Astoria Spa is home to incredible amenities, including grottos with steam rooms, saunas, ice rooms, and whirlpools with a wealth of local herbal remedies on hand. There’s also a saltwater meditation pool accessible directly from private treatment rooms.
The luxurious One&Only Spa at the One&Only Palmilla resort also offers a full menu of healing rituals and treatments drawing upon ancient Mayan traditions, including a temazcal experience that features a therapeutic steam bath fortified with detoxifying local herbs, indigenous music, copal incense, herbal teas, and ancient medicinal tonics. Its traditional healing ritual is a massage that begins with copal incense and herb- and flower-infused waters for a cleansing ritual and incorporates healing tools ranging from fresh bamboo to hot stones, indigenous medicines, and a traditional rebozo stretching shawl. Before or after your treatment, indulge in the spa’s steam room, sauna, and hot and cold plunge pools. For deeper immersion, you can even embark on a healer-led journey, from cacao ceremonies to full moon meditations and breathwork.
SUBLIME SPAS
Tierra Mar Spa at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences in Cabo San Lucas at Cabo del Sol is a sanctuary of serenity, seamlessly blending the elemental beauty of Baja California with innovative wellness practices. Designed in a modern hacienda style, the Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort is awash in neutral tones and natural materials for a tranquil, luxurious seaside escape. Drawing inspiration from the region’s naturally calming elements of sea breeze, warm sunshine, and ocean tides, the on-site
eforea Spa’s indoor-outdoor facilities include a steam room, a whirlpool, and the option to enjoy a massage, facial, or body treatment imbued with marine elements and native herbs beneath an outdoor bungalow.
The Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos is an all-inclusive adults-only resort with an emphasis on health and wellness. At the luxurious Aura Spa located on-site, a hydrotherapy journey is designed to highlight the healing properties of water through their sauna, ice room, steam room, sensation showers, heated hammam lounges, and more. Follow that up with a Blanc Signature treatment, whether it be a multisensory massage journey, an advanced lifting facial with hyaluronic acid, or the pitaya wrap featuring a body scrub made from local dragon fruit.
A boutique hotel carved into the cliffs overlooking the Cabo San Lucas Bay, The Cape, A Thompson Hotel, is home to the intimate Currents Spa nestled within a natural rock formation. Here, an oasis of hot and cold plunge pools, cabanas, a steam room, and a sauna await, complete with dazzling ocean views. Choose from its signature massage, facial, or detox ritual, the latter of which involves exfoliation using Dead Sea salts and essential oils as well as a body wrap made with organic honey and aloe.
ACTIVE WELLNESS EXPERIENCES
Many Los Cabos area spas also offer fitness and active experiences to complement your spa and healing treatments, creating a holistic approach to wellness. Here, you’ll find stateof-the-art fitness centers with personal trainers offering both indoor and outdoor classes, ranging from Pilates to moonlit or sunrise yoga, spinning TRX, and beach boot camps. Paddle board yoga and aquatic spinning classes are also popular activities, and some resort spas feature tennis courts, golf courses, and guided area hikes. No matter which you choose, these active fitness experiences are a wonderful way to indulge in total mind-andbody restoration during a Los Cabos vacation.
MERGING HEALTH CARE WITH HOSPITALITY
As the cost of U.S. health care services soars, the range of procedures and treatments covered by health insurance policies plummets. Mexico continues to fuel its hot spot status as a primary destination for U.S. and Canadian travelers focused on procuring reasonably priced medical treatments without compromising quality.
Did you know?
» The ancient Mayan temazcal steam lodge ceremony draws on the elements of water, fire, earth, and air to deliver purification and balance. Participants gather in an intimate dome-shaped chamber made of mud or stone and are guided through the ceremony by a curandero spiritual healer. As your body sweats and releases toxins, your soul is renewed, awakening wisdom passed down through generations.
From the top to the tip of the Baja peninsula, Mexico’s medical tourism shares the bucket-list indulgences of escaping to an exotic vacation destination with enhancing self-esteem through wellness regimens and elective procedures. Especially in Los Cabos, medical and dental practitioners team with visitor industry professionals to support wellness-first escapes to help travelers embrace every aspect of their stay.
Los Cabos delivers this attractive blend of hospitality and health care, often with significant savings that offset travel expenses. The vast menu of services ranges from cosmetic enhancements, bariatric surgery, and fertility treatments to joint replacements and oncology procedures.
Dedicated to providing “Exceptional Care for Exceptional People,” AMC Hospital is a highly responsive Los Cabos facility handling urgent care with hemodynamics, hemodialysis, 3D tomography (128-slice tomography), radiology, and operating and intensive care rooms.
AMC also features state-of-the-art equipment and the most advanced tools for critical-care treatment, such as Prisma,
ventilatory support machines, and the Lucas device that renders automatic CPR. In fact, AMC Hospital is well respected for having performed more coronary bypass surgeries than other Los Cabos area hospitals.
While not physically large in size, this boutique treatment center is considered a giant in resolution, attention, and service. Count on a staff of warm and caring professionals who treat each patient with empathy, solidarity, and integrity.
Many medical travelers schedule multiple procedures and extend stays to recuperate in all-inclusive beachfront resort settings near their facilities and professional teams.
Imagine the mental and physical perks of incorporating pre- and postsurgical massage and water therapies, followed by organic spa cuisine, shared to the tune of gentle waves lapping the shoreline. Select medical spas are also bolstering nonsurgical paths by augmenting science with art through aesthetic, antiaging approaches. A hybrid between traditional day spas and medical clinics, these facilities embrace the best of both worlds by supplementing spa experiences with techniques typically performed under a physician’s supervision.
Customized, multifaceted regimens incorporate total mind-body-spirit wellness and skin rejuvenation to help restore youthful appearances and rebalanced attitudes. Refreshing options include Botox, hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma, IV therapies, and collagen induction.
The fusion of cutting-edge medical facilities with the soothing embrace of luxury spas creates an unparalleled haven for those seeking holistic wellness.
STATE OF THE ARTS
From bustling art districts and galleries filled with local talent to traditional music, dance, and cultural festivals, Los Cabos offers a rich array of experiences that captivate visitors year-round.
by Shayne Benowitz
Baja California Sur is home to a rich tapestry of art with a deeply rooted cultural heritage, ranging from the historic gallery district in San José del Cabo to the mystical bohemian town of Todos Santos that, with its historic architecture and thriving arts community, has been officially designated as one of Mexico’s pueblos mágicos, or “magical towns.” But Baja isn’t all ancient folkloric art. Here, visitors will also find compelling contemporary works by both Mexican and international artists in galleries and museums for an opportunity to contemplate the past, present, and future; and music and movie lovers can plan a Los Cabos vacation around one of the area’s exciting annual music, film, and arts festivals.
SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO GALLERY SCENE
San José del Cabo is home to a thriving historic gallery district. One of the best ways to experience the area is during the San José del Cabo Art Walk held Thursday evenings
during season (November through June) from 5 to 9 p.m. Situated in the charming streets surrounding Plaza Mijares and the Misión San José del Cabo church, the main thoroughfare is closed to traffic during Art Walk to make the evening pedestrian friendly.
Over a dozen galleries stay open late, often launching special exhibitions and hosting artists, while the surrounding restaurants and bars fill with art enthusiasts for a festive evening out on the town. On display, you’ll find a wide range of works created by folk artists and artisans of Los Cabos and other Mexican regions, ranging from Mata Ortiz pottery from Chihuahua to Neo-Zapotec hand-painted wood carvings from Oaxaca and intricate beaded Huichol art from Nayarit and Jalisco. The galleries are also home to a variety of contemporary art by international artists, from paintings to sculpture, photography, jewelry, and beyond.
During your visit, don’t miss Galería de Ida Victoria, home to works by both emerging and established contemporary artists from Mexico and around the world. From New York–based Colombian artist Andrés García-Peña’s captivating neo-expressionist paintings to American artist S. Brooke Anderson’s sublime abstract landscapes and Baja’s own Hresula Bentsen’s playful mosaic sculptures, the range of talent on display is truly captivating. Nearby, artist Frank Arnold’s
eponymous gallery displays his abstract figurative paintings and sculptures in a sleek modern space that also acts as his studio.
TODOS SANTOS DAY TRIP
For a culturally rich day trip from Cabo San Lucas, set your sights on Todos Santos, a charming town nestled between the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range and the Pacific Ocean. About an hour’s drive north up the coast from Cabo San Lucas, it’s home to a melting pot of multigenerational farmers, expats, artists, musicians, and surfers.
Considered one of Mexico’s pueblos mágicos, you’ll find a variety of art galleries, unique museum spaces, design-forward boutique hotels, and hip restaurants situated inside historic haciendas and restored colonial buildings. The town’s central plaza is a great place to start your exploration, anchored by the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar built in the 1700s, where you’ll also find art galleries and a local theater. The Centro Cultural resides within a former schoolhouse and functions as a local history museum with nationalist and revolutionary murals on display.
LOS CABOS PERFORMING ARTS
Los Cabos also plays host to a variety of exciting arts festivals throughout the year. In Todos Santos, January’s Tropic of Cancer Music & Arts Festival boasts an eclectic lineup of international and Mexican musicians, while the Todos Santos Film Festival in late November shines a spotlight on short and feature-length films and documentaries by Southern Californian, Mexican, and Latin American filmmakers.
Cinephiles visiting in December should make a point to attend the Los Cabos International Film Festival, which has positioned itself as the nexus for filmmakers from Mexico, the United States, and Canada for over a decade. Festivalgoers can attend film premieres, industry panel discussions, workshops, and exclusive parties, with venues ranging from local movie houses to the 700-seat theater at the impressive Cultural Pavilion of the Republic.
The San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, held in August, is another highlight of the year in Baja. Boasting nine stages and a long weekend dedicated to an incredible lineup of salsa, jazz, blues, Latin, and R&B musicians, this is the kind of concert that will make you feel grateful to be alive and under the stars on a warm summer evening in Los Cabos.

It can be a real battle of willpower to pull yourself away from the freeflowing margaritas, mouthwatering cuisine, and sizzling nightlife of Los Cabos; but you absolutely must set aside some time to experience the real “wild” side of Los Cabos — adventuring through the Baja backcountry, mountains, and seashores.
BAJA BACKCOUNTRY
Start off light and easy by exploring the desert backcountry. Plod along cactus-lined back trails on camelback, horseback, or even simply by filling up your backpack and hiking around the rocky terrain. Navigating the backcountry in silence offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the desert ecosystem. Turn the difficulty level up a tiny notch and sprinkle in some more adventure by mountain biking specially designed trails that careen down the mountains. When you’re ready for the big leagues, rent a genuine Chenowith 1000 4x4 vehicle to speed and slide around dusty backroads, get wicked 10-foot air off dirt jumps, and even try out a specially designed Baja racetrack to see if you’ve got what it takes to turn and burn as a Baja buggy racer. You don’t have to stay tethered to the ground, either — exhilarating zip-lining, skydiving, and rappelling tours off the mountainside cliff faces will truly give you a mindblowing view of the spectacular Desert Park Ecological Preserve backdrop. For an easygoing way to break a sweat instead, head over to the Cabo Sports Complex, where you can engage in heated pickleball competitions.
WATER WORLD
The world’s most famous underwater explorer, Jacques Cousteau, was so fascinated by the underwater realm of Los Cabos that he spent much of his time researching here. How could he not?
Breathtaking aquamarine seascapes lap at the desert landscape, painting the region in a spectacular palette of contrasting colors. Underneath the waves, waters beckon snorkelers and scuba divers to drop down and explore the diverse array of tropical fishes, including butterfly fish, sergeant majors, and Moorish idols. Featuring three quality restaurants serving the Los Cabos region, Grupo La Lupita strives to offer nothing but the best.
The first location, La Lupita Taco & Mezcal, offers delectable fare situated in a cozy atmosphere. Set in San José del Cabo’s swank art district, La Lupita offers great tacos during the day and even tastier ones at night.
The second La Lupita restaurant blesses the shores of Médano Beach in Cabo San Lucas. Its popularity has only grown with time, not only for the quality of the food but for the picturesque setting as well. La Lupita Médano Beach is a favorite of many for its quality location and endless possibilities for private events and catering.
And finally, the most recent addition of Grupo La Lupita is Umi Sushi & Crudo Bar in San José del Cabo, located in the Paulina Concept House near the original La Lupita Taco & Mezcal restaurant. Blending the best of Japan and Mexico, Umi Cabo offers truly unique dishes and drinks that represent tradition with a mix of modern sophistication.
The 7 Seas Seafood Grille, located in the Cabo Surf Hotel, offers eclectic seafood with Mexican influences. Executive Chef Alejandro Rodriguez Ponce strives to use fresh organic produce from the region, incorporating healthy and high-quality ingredients throughout the menu.
Since its opening in 1986, Romeo & Julieta Ristorante has been a beloved institution in Los Cabos. Nestled in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, it seamlessly combines the elegance of Italian tradition with the warmth of rustic Mexican charm. Offering valet parking and a romantic, inviting ambience, each and every detail is thoughtfully crafted to ensure your comfort.
Perched on a hill with breathtaking Pacific views, Pícaro seamlessly blends fine dining with an extraordinary natural setting. Its wood-fired grill and oven set it apart, creating a unique culinary experience.
Located just one block from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, Cafetería Fiore combines Nordic and Japandi design to create a warm yet sophisticated ambience. Indulge in a menu of intense and unique flavors, complemented by freshly ground coffee, warm bread straight from the oven, and a variety of refreshing beverages.
CABO AFTER DARK
In the heart of Cabo San Lucas, the Mango Deck on Médano Beach boasts an incredible view of both Lover’s Beach and El Arco. Open every day of the week from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Mango Deck is popular throughout
the day; but things get kicked up a notch after sundown. Live entertainment is part of what makes Mango Deck a favorite among both locals and visitors, and they have recently added nightly musical performances!
Situated in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, The Wine Bar delivers a refined experience reminiscent of a London lounge or a classic Boston venue. A haven for wine enthusiasts, it offers an extensive selection of wines by the glass complemented by a thoughtfully curated menu featuring cheese boards, fondue, and other perfect pairings.
The Rooftop at The Cape, A Thompson Hotel, comes alive when the sun goes down. The rooftop al fresco sky garden offers sweeping views of El Arco and the twinkling lights of Cabo San Lucas. The Rooftop at The Cape features open-air bars, sunken communal seating, a fire pit, and serene water views.
Rooftop 360 at Corazón Cabo Resort is officially the highest terrace in town, making this the perfect spot to sit back, wine and dine, and enjoy the best view in Cabo San Lucas. Standing at nine stories high, the bar is flanked by sparkling infinity pools, while the twinkle-lit ambience and handcrafted pergolas make for a chic fairy tale on high.
Set on Médano Beach in Los Cabos, Club Cascadas de Baja offers stunning views of El Arco. Treat yourself to the unforgettable luxury of dining on gourmet cuisine while overlooking the breathtaking view or dining by romantic candlelight under a blanket of stars.

Anglers are a tight-knit, dedicated, and spirited group, often willing to travel far and wide and search the world’s finest fishing destinations in pursuit of a dream fish. As they spin the globe to find a destination in which to fulfill their fishing fantasies, the buck inevitably stops at Los Cabos. Why? Simply put, world-class fishing opportunity exists here like nowhere else on the planet. Brimming with vibrant aquamarine waters among stunning cliffside backdrops, both offshore and inshore species abound on every angler’s hit list, ranging from striped marlin, blue marlin, mahimahi, roosterfish, jack crevalles, and dozens of other aspirational catches of a lifetime.
THE DEEP SEA
When non-fishermen refer to the “deep sea,” that means heading to the offshore grounds that can range anywhere from 10 to 50 miles into the Pacific Ocean. These far-off waters are the playgrounds for some of the wildest big game species in the world. Topped off by the highlight, the striped marlin is in abundance offshore of Los Cabos more than anywhere else in the world’s oceans, earning the destination as the number one spot to achieve your “striper” catch. But don’t be fooled — other massive marlin species are caught every day as well, including black marlin that can reach 800 to 1,000 pounds and blue marlin of the same caliber.
Top-of-the-line sportfishing yachts depart daily to chase marlin, deploying tactics such as trolling with rigged ballyhoo baits, squid spreader bars and daisy chains, and even live baiting with sardines to tempt a strike. The prime season for marlin runs from September to mid-March, with anglers typically landing four to six marlin during a full day offshore during peak season.
If gladiator billfish are too much for you to handle, dial it down offshore and target the vibrantly hued mahimahi, aka dolphinfish, which range from 20 to 60 pounds on any given day and are notably absolutely delicious in the frying pan. Dolphinfish are primarily targeted from February through April. Speed demons in the form of wahoo, going up to 80 pounds, are also on tap, earning their name from an angler’s exclamation of “Wahoo!” when they take the bait and rip the line off the reel. Another prized catch, yellowfin

tuna, weighing up to 250 pounds, are a daily occurrence from September through March. If you’re a big sushi fan, you certainly won’t eat anything fresher!
STAYING INSHORE
While the deep sea is tempting, you don’t have to make long runs offshore to enjoy exciting fishing opportunities. Inshore waters along the Sea of Cortés and along the Los Cabos waterfront offer up plenty of species both big and small to test your tackle. Anglers descend on Cabo San Lucas and along the East Cape to search out the incredibly beautiful roosterfish, with its coxcombed dorsal fin and brilliant black striped pattern along its silver flanks. Roosters, or “el gallo” in the native language, put up big game battles right within sight of the land, offering up the chance to truly feel the thrill of a big game battle while trolling diving plugs or tossing live baits back to them. This is a top destination for flyrodders looking to check the rooster off their bucket list.
The myriad seamounts and submarine rock piles hugging the coastline also attract a vast array of bottom species, including red snapper,
groupers, jacks, and various types of cabrilla species, that fill the cooler for most charters to bring back home to the grill. Smaller speedsters such as cero mackerel, sierra mackerel, and rainbow runners also inundate the inshore waters and are usually trolled up with shiny plugs and feathers to put them on the boat. And if you don’t have your sea legs and want to stay on shore, don’t worry! There’s always the opportunity to hire a surf fishing charter and cast lures from the crashing surf to tangle with roosterfish, mackerel, and cabrilla species. Inshore species are also available year-round, so you’ll always be there at the right time, no matter what month you choose to visit.
HOPPING A CHARTER BOAT
Of course, when you’re out on the open sea, you want to fish in comfort and style; and the top dog in the area is the Pisces Fleet. Equipped with dozens of fishing charter boats for hire, the Pisces Fleet can get you on board your personal 80-foot sportfishing yacht for offshore adventures or rent out smaller midsize watercraft to chase inshore species. All boats come fully locked and loaded with a professional captain who knows the waters, a stocked fridge filled with beer and food, mates on deck to set the lines and assist you in your battles, and top-tier tackle to ensure your equipment never fails when you have the big one on.

Golfing in Los Cabos is a bucket-list experience for enthusiasts visiting Land’s End. With 18 exceptional courses already available to challenge players of all skill levels — and more in development — this destination continues to cement its reputation as a golfer’s paradise.
Renowned course designers like Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, and Robert Trent Jones Jr. have left their mark on the region. Adding to this illustrious lineup, Scottishborn architect David McLay Kidd is currently crafting the newest gem: Baja Bay Club, set to debut in Baja’s East Cape.
David McLay Kidd is a master of golf course design, with acclaimed projects such as the Castle Course at St. Andrews Links and the iconic Bandon Dunes course along the Oregon Coast earning global recognition.
His latest endeavor, Baja Bay Club, is part of a sprawling 2,400-acre real estate development set to include up to 500 luxury beach and ocean-view homes. Located just a few miles from Cabo Pulmo National Park, this residential community will be nestled between the rugged Sierra de la Laguna mountains and the tranquil Sea of Cortés, boasting over three miles of pristine beachfront. Baja Bay Club is set to open in 2026.
Also scheduled to open in early 2026 is the Ernie Els–designed Oleada Golf Links Los Cabos. Els — who has won 75 professional tournaments worldwide, including four major championships — said of the project, “Our goal at Oleada is to build a core golf course that harmonizes with nature.”
Another highly anticipated addition to the Los Cabos golf scene is the Legacy Club at Diamante, an 18-hole, par-71 course spanning 6,966 yards from the tips. Designed by golf legend Tiger Woods, the course is expected to open by press time, marking his third masterpiece at Diamante. Woods’ previous designs include El Cardonal, host of the PGA Tour’s World Wide Technology Championship, and the Oasis Short Course, both celebrated for their exceptional playability and stunning landscapes.
Quivira’s second Jack Nicklaus golf course was set to open in late 2024 as well, but to date, it is still a work in progress.
Querencia is gearing up to unveil a second golf course, with legendary designer Tom Fazio

— who crafted the original course 25 years ago — leading the design once again. The new course is slated to open in 2026.
COURSE AWARDS
Throughout the 206 countries and territories worldwide, you can find nearly 39,000 golf courses. Each year, Golf Digest painstakingly selects the top 100 golf courses on the planet — and this year, Los Cabos has 2 golf courses in that coveted list.
The Jack Nicklaus–designed Cabo del Sol (Cove Club, formerly the Ocean Course) came in at No. 100. Nicklaus once described the course as having the “three finest finishing holes in golf.” Ironically, in 2020, the 17th and 18th holes were demolished and replaced by two inland holes to make oceanfront space for expanded resort development. Even with that dramatic change, however, the course still held its own in the eyes of the judges.
Coming in at No. 47 was Diamante Golf Club (The Dunes). Designed by Davis Love III, this course is considered Mexico’s first true links course. Davis’s design team included his brother, Mark Love, and designer Paul
Cowley. The judges especially praised the holes hugging the Pacific Ocean. The second nine are adjacent to the sea, with the tallest dunes doing their part to disrupt golfers. As another point of interest, no other links course in the world sports cactus!
GOLF TOURNAMENTS
El Cardonal at Diamante Cabo San Lucas proudly hosted the World Wide Technology Championship once again in November 2024, welcoming over 130 professional golfers to its renowned fairways. The 2023 tournament concluded with a thrilling moment as Erik van Rooyen sank a 16-foot eagle putt on the par-5 finishing hole to claim the championship title.
Hosted at the Pueblo Bonito Pacífica Golf & Spa Resort, the annual Los Cabos Golf ProAm tournament took place from January 12–15, 2025. The best ball event was contested at Cabo del Sol Golf Club on Monday, January 13. On Tuesday, January 14, golfers teed off at Solmar Golf Links at Rancho San Lucas; and the final round concluded on Wednesday, January 15, at Quivira Golf Club.
Founded in 2010, the annual Cabo Collegiate Golf Tournament will be held March 2–4, 2025, at the Twin Dolphin Club, featuring golfers from 14 U.S. colleges. Past individual participants have included current world number one Scotty Scheffler, Victor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Ludwig Aberg, and Will Zalatoris, to name a few.

Located 30 miles north of Los Cabos, Santiago’s history began in 1723 with a mission founded by an Italian padre. Its streets, alive with authentic cowboys riding on horseback, reflect the rustic heritage of Baja.
TODOS SANTOS
No other town boasts such a vibrant display of artistry as Todos Santos. Just an hour’s drive north of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19 along the Pacific coast, Todos Santos brims with artisan shops presenting remarkable local artworks.
EL TRIUNFO
Celebrated for its rich history in silverwork, the brick façades of El Triunfo echo the opulence of the region’s silver mining era.
SAN ANTONIO
Home to fewer than 500 residents, San Antonio is undeniably a haven for solitude, simplicity, and tranquility.
EAST CAPE
One of the crowning jewels of the East Cape’s serene expanse is the Cabo Pulmo Marine Park. It is the proud protector of North America’s sole living hard coral reef — a
20,000-year-old natural marvel spanning 45.75 square miles. This underwater haven teems with playful dolphins, majestic breaching whales, and a vibrant ecosystem that boasts over 300 species of tropical fish and 2,000 invertebrates.

Tucked along the eastern edge of the Baja peninsula, Loreto is a seaside paradise where history, nature, and adventure converge. Nestled between the Sierra de la Giganta mountains and the sparkling Sea of Cortés, Loreto offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
COMONDÚ
Spanning a vast portion of Baja California Sur, the municipality of Comondú predominantly stretches along the Pacific Ocean side of the peninsula. A significant draw to this region is Misión San José de Comondú, which houses one of the pioneering missions from the mission trail.
MULEGÉ
Venturing further north, curious travelers are in for a once-in-a-lifetime discovery: the rock art and cave paintings near Mulegé. These prehistoric sites, some as old as 7,500 years, are scattered across the peninsula. While a few are conveniently accessible, most demand the expertise of a knowledgeable guide.
SAN IGNACIO
San Ignacio is a hidden oasis in the desert. Surrounded by lush palm groves and the tranquil San Ignacio River, this charming town offers a peaceful escape. The highlight of any visitor is exploring the historic Mission San Ignacio, a stunning 18th-century Jesuit church.
