Tee off as you overlook breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortés and the surrounding mountain-desert landscape.
La Vida de Rancho
The true mystery and allure of the Baja countryside lie in its quaint, sleepy towns that embody the traditional way of ranching in the outback. Local culture fuses dreamily with the quiet artisan soul, perfectly encapsulated in the tiny idyllic pueblos of Miraflores and Santiago.
Miraflores, translated as “look at flowers,” captures the innate beauty you’d expect to see with such a pretty name. The soul of the pueblo is built around the inherent Mexican cowboy culture, which spawned legendary leather making prowess. Saddle making was the town’s historical main industry, though in modern times, streetside shops showcase a variety of handcrafted leather goods. Tiny tiendas offer succulent Mexican fare to fuel your leisurely stroll. To truly expe rience the soul of the Baja outlands, Miraflores does not disappoint.
Santiago’s charm lies secluded in the Desert Park’s Cabo Real Ecological Preserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site encompass ing 50,000 acres of protected natural habitat. The locally owned Rancho Ecológico Sol de Mayo, located on the preserve, blossoms with natural subtropical desert flora and fauna. A short stroll down a worn, cactus-lined path through the outback leads you to Fox Canyon and the iconic Sol de Mayo waterfall, a 40-foot cascading waterfall that plunges into a freshwater pool. Stop for a quick dip before enjoying a traditional Mexican lunch of handmade tortillas and chorizo.—Nick Honachefsky

The reef, located two hours from Los Cabos, is home to abundant sea life, including sharks, sea lions, octopuses, and eels.
GO ON A WHALE WATCHING TOUR FOR A GLIMPSE AT THE GIANTS.
5 7 6
During their annual migration from the ice-cold Arctic to the warm waters of the Baja peninsula, you can spot humpback whales swimming past the coastline. If you’re lucky, you may see them from shore; but for the best chance, book a guided tour. Keep your camera ready, as you never know when one of these gentle giants will breach the water! The best time to go whale watching in Los Cabos is from January through March.
DID YOU KNOW?
Each year, sea turtles including hawksbill, leatherback, and loggerhead species nest on the same beaches that visitors enjoy. For this reason, several hotels in Los Cabos have preservation programs to help protect the fragile turtle eggs and make sure the baby turtles make it safely out to sea once they’ve hatched.

8EXPERIENCE THE THRILL OF A DESERT-BOUND ATV RIDE.
Are fast-paced adventures more your speed? Go off-roading in the rugged, dusty countryside or explore the sandy beaches and cactus-lined desert landscape on an exhilarating ATV tour. You’ll discover hidden canyons, flora and fauna, and stunning viewpoints of the surrounding crystalline waters.
PLAN A SIDE TRIP TO LOCAL FARMS AND RANCHES.
You’ll get a feel for the deep-rooted farming culture when you visit one of the many ecofarms and ranches dotted across the Baja
California Sur region. Here you can take farm tours, pick your own produce, and taste some of the freshest farm-to-table cuisine for a truly authentic experience.
10SIGN UP FOR A COOKING CLASS TO RE-CREATE THE DISHES YOU LOVE. Once you get a taste of the region’s authentic Mexican cuisine, you’ll be daydreaming about it back home. So why not pick up a few recipes and techniques as a souvenir? Some cooking classes in Los Cabos also include a local market or farm tour where you can pick your own produce. Then, local chefs guide you through popular recipes for a truly unforgettable experience.
Responsible Tourism
As with any tourist destination that encourages visitors to explore, experience, and immerse themselves in local culture, social responsibility is mandatory.
Thoughtful travelers respect and preserve the environment they explore. Tourism is a two-way street and a symbiotic relationship.
On your sojourn, branch out and join environmental initiatives such as helping sea turtles nest or donating to local organizations that preserve natural reef systems.
Interestingly, more than 40% of the Baja California Sur territory exists as a protected natural area.
Always respect local shop owners and remember that while you’re on vacation, residents work hard to produce, sell, and showcase their wares and products to make your stay as memorable as possible. Engage in conversation and learn the basics of the language; it will go a long way in showing your kindness and respect. Build friendships with locals, whether it be a small tienda you visit occasionally or a restaurant with your favorite server. Life is about human connections, and traveling is about giving back more than you take. With that sentiment in mind, your travels will be filled with joyful memories!

Guide to Golfer’s
Los Cabos
By Rick Stedman
The Los Cabos golf scene has grown from humble beginnings into a lush landscape of rolling greens and championship-level play. Its first course, the San José del Cabo Municipal, was built by hand and opened in 1987, featuring a nine-hole course, 32 bunkers, and a lake within a 3,153-yard flat course with a par of 35. That ninehole course is still operating today as Vidanta Golf Los Cabos.
The One&Only Palmilla Golf Course opened in Los Cabos in 1992 as Jack Nicklaus’s first signature course built in Latin America. It was also the start of a Los Cabos golf boom that continues to grow. Often referred to as the Grande Dame of Los Cabos golf, the One&Only Palmilla Golf Club today offers 27 holes, featuring 9 holes at each of the Mountain, Ocean, and Arroyo courses.
19
WITH COURSES DESIGNED BY THE INDUSTRY’S TOP DESIGNERS AND PICTURE-PERFECT LANDSCAPES TO MATCH, LOS CABOS IS A GOLFER’S PARADISE.
FUN FACT
As one of the world’s premier golf destinations, Los Cabos had 3 of its 21 golf courses named on the 2022 Golf Digest “World’s 100 Greatest” list. Included in that prestigious biennial ranking were Diamante Dunes Golf Club at No. 50, Querencia Golf Club at No. 73, and Quivira Golf Club debuting at No. 87.
INCREDIBLE TRACKS
Golfers from all over the world flock to Los Cabos for the region’s many scenic and challenging courses. While most of these incredible courses are centered in and around greater Los Cabos, the newest tracks have extended north up the Baja peninsula on the Pacific Ocean side and along the Sea of Cortés.
GUESTS OF SOLMAR GROUP HOTELS HAVE ACCESS TO THE EXCLUSIVE 18-HOLE GOLF COURSE AT RANCHO SAN LUCAS.
The most recent course to open is the oceanfront Solmar Golf Links, one of Greg Norman’s gems. Since its debut in 2020, it has become one of Los Cabos’ most coveted golf courses. The aptly named Solmar, which translates to “sun and sea,” is the name of the on-site resort Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas. The course boasts a magnificent panorama of dunes, fairways, and ocean views that blend seamlessly with the surrounding natural vegetation, making this a must-play course. The 191-yard, par-3 17th is the only island green in Los Cabos and the layout’s most photographed hole.
Since its 2018 opening, Twin Dolphin Golf Club has promoted itself as “championship golf for the everyday player,” after its design by PGA champion Fred Couples. Every hole offers a picturesque view of the Sea of Cortés. The course is unique by offering tee times and instead lives on Cabo time,

offering night golf at the practice tee! The private 18-hole, par72 course measures 7,156 yards and is available to guests and owners of Montage Los Cabos and Maravilla Los Cabos.
Opened in 2019 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the luxurious Costa Palmas course in the East Cape region sits roughly 65 miles from Cabo San Lucas and is affiliated with the Four Seasons. This stunning 18-hole championship course features desert and ocean views, dunescapes, and wide, challenging fairways.
ON THE DRAWING BOARD
Following the design success of the Quivira Golf Club, Jack Nicklaus Design began working on a second course in the northwest area of the 1,850-acre development, 10 minutes from Los Cabos. Offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and an incredible backdrop from the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, the new private course will be playable for Old Lighthouse Club residents, a private community within the Quivira resort.
Since the early 1990s, Jack Nicklaus Design has made its mark on the Baja golf scene. Club Campestre, one of three courses under the Questro Golf umbrella, was designed by Nicklaus. Its undulating, multitiered greens are among the most liberally contoured putting surfaces in Los Cabos, making it a favorite among visitors. The course is located just 15 minutes from the Los Cabos International Airport.
Cabo Real is another Questro Golf jewel situated midway along The Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo and the showpiece of a 2,800-acre resort and residential project with 3.2 miles of beachfront. The Cabo Real Golf Club features a multi-themed, target-style course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The recent reversal of the club’s nines has dramatically enhanced the course’s layout and flow.
The third Questro course is the 27-hole Puerto Los Cabos. Two of the 9-hole courses were designed by Jack Nicklaus, while the third was conceived by Greg Norman. Combined, the 27 holes at Puerto Los Cabos offer expansive coastline views of the ocean and Sea of Cortés.
All three Questro golf courses will host the 2023 Los Cabos ProAm, January 2–7, 2023.
Formally known as the Ocean Course, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Cove Club Golf Course first opened for play in 1994. Stretching for more than a mile along the Sea of Cortés, the private course features four unforgettable oceanfront holes perched above the roaring waves of the Pacific, open to members and their guests.

Cabo San Lucas Country Club has remained one of the most difficult courses in Los Cabos since its inception in 1994. The lighted driving range is a popular addition that allows golfers to extend their game into the night. Designed by Roy Dye, the 18-hole desert course has views of the Sea of Cortés and El Arco at Land’s End. One of the more daunting holes is the double-dogleg par-5 seventh, which swings around a lake and stretches to 610 yards from the back tees, ranking it among the longest holes in Mexico.
Chileno Bay Golf Course, designed by Tom Fazio, is yet another exclusive and exquisite Cabo experience with one of the best-manicured layouts in Los Cabos. Two other private courses include the Nicklausdesigned El Dorado Golf & Beach Club and the Diamante Cabo San Lucas El Cardonal, designed by Tiger Woods.
Given the abundance of world-class courses in and around Los Cabos, it’s easy to see why this part of Baja has earned a stellar reputation among golfers.
Golf Meets Comfort
Most 18-hole golf courses offer comfort stations around the 5th and 13th holes with restrooms, water, and sometimes refreshments; but Los Cabos goes the extra mile with course-side comforts. Los Cabos’ putters can expect teeing off to be as exciting as pulling up to a comfort station. Here’s a sampling of the benefits in store.
Lucha Libre, a quick stop just off hole 13 at Costa Palmas Golf Club in the East Cape, features casual Mexican cuisine, including shrimp tacos, carne asada burritos, and more. Its newest amenity, the East Cape Food Truck, overlooks the 18th hole and was inspired by 1920s French and Italian outdoor bistros. Operated by the Four Seasons Resort, this gourmet eatery on wheels offers fresh cuisine and appetizers like sliders and tacos, specialty “paletas” (popsicles), and signature cocktails and libations.
A round at Quivira Los Cabos treats you to two comfort stations. The first sits on a cliff near the fifth hole where linksmen can relax, take in the expansive ocean views, and enjoy a margarita and fish tacos. The second comfort station on the back nine is equally impressive, with a chef taking menu requests.
Comfort stations at Twin Dolphin Golf Club are located at its Red Doors on holes 5 and 12, where golfers can enjoy the club house’s ever-changing menu, craft cocktails, and personalized service right off the fairway.
The Grand Solmar and Rancho San Lucas Resort offer two comfort stations affectionately known as “Shark Shacks” in honor of golfing legend Greg Norman, known as “The Shark.”
Diamante Dunes, Puerto Los Cabos, and several others offer similar comfort stations, and these on-course mini-restau rants are here to stay.

COVE CLUB
Originally the legendary Cabo Del Sol Ocean Course, Cove Club reopened in 2019 with several new holes, restyled bunkers, upgraded playing surfaces, and new landscaping. Measuring 6,807 yards, Cove Club stretches more than a mile along a coastline of craggy rock outcroppings and sun-washed shores, inspiring course designer Jack Nicklaus to describe it as “the best golf property I’ve ever seen.” With the waves crashing against the rocks, verdant fairways, and gentle sea breezes, the Cove Club experience is akin to a romantic walk on the beach. cabodelsol.com/cove-club-course
DIAMANTE CABO SAN LUCAS DUNES COURSE
The par-72, 7,022-yard Dunes Course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas is marked by fairways, tees, and greens carved right into sand dunes high above the Pacific Ocean. PALMILLA GOLF CLUB
Palmilla is the landmark facility that set the stage for top-tier golf in Los Cabos when it opened in 1992 and is recognized as the Grand Dame of Los Cabos. Famous for offering 27 holes of amazing golf and spectacular views, it was Jack Nicklaus’s first signature venture into Latin America. With three distinctive nines — Arroyo, Mountain, and Ocean — the course gently guides golfers through 800 vertical feet of Baja California Sur terrain. palmillagc.com
PUERTO LOS CABOS GOLF CLUB
Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club features a unique 27-hole composite design finished in 2018 when Jack Nicklaus returned to build his long-awaited second nine. The Marina Course was originally designed by Nicklaus, and the Mission Course was designed by Greg Norman. Bunkers and dramatic elevation changes mark the recent additions made by Nicklaus. Stretching to 7,194 yards, the par-73 layout is etched into the rolling desert foothills, backed by the Sierra de la Laguna mountains. Making use of its flash-faced bunkers to signpost the fairways and defend the greens, the layout reveals Norman’s fondness for Australia’s classic Sandbelt courses. The club’s Marina Course features rippling fairways, undulating greens, and sculpted bunkers. Eventually, Puerto Los Cabos will offer two separate 18-hole courses. questrogolf.com

Its 18 holes span more than 300 beautifully manicured acres. Recognized by Golf Digest and Golfweek magazines in 2021, the par-72 course measures a total of 7,050 yards. loscabosquerencia.com
QUIVIRA GOLF CLUB
In a spectacular setting at the tip of the Baja California peninsula marked by windswept dunes, sheer cliffs, and desert foothills, Quivira’s Jack Nicklaus–designed course scales the heights at Land’s End. This stunning par-72, 18-hole course stretches to 7,085 yards and is set along massive sand dunes, rugged cliffs, and white-sand beaches. With views of the Pacific Ocean from all 18 holes, Quivira offers more oceanfront exposure than any other course in Los Cabos. quiviragolfclub.com
RANCHO SAN LUCAS GOLF CLUB
The centerpiece of an 834-acre community set on the Pacific Ocean, the Greg Norman Signature Rancho San Lucas Golf Club opened in 2020. Known for his “least-disturbance” design approach, the 18-hole course features a low-profile layout that left the site’s existing contours intact and offers sweeping ocean views from every hole. The result is a 7,210-yard, par-72 course that spans three separate ecosystems: across windswept dunes, up through a cactus forest, and back toward the sea on the back nine. Norman also integrated indigenous grass varietals that require the least amount of water, building an eco-friendly experience that flows naturally with the landscape. ranchosanlucas.com/golf
THE OASIS SHORT COURSE
The second course designed by Tiger Woods for Diamante Golf and the first par-3 course in Los Cabos, The Oasis Short Course is designed to appeal to members and guests at all ability levels, from novices to experts. diamantecabosanlucas.com
TWIN DOLPHIN GOLF CLUB
Built on a sloping plateau bisected by three major arroyos, Twin Dolphin Golf Club rises more than 590 feet above sea level and boasts a naturalistic layout that features sweeping views of the Sea of Cortés from every hole. Course architect Fred Couples worked on the course’s routing and strategic design with Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design to make it “a course that all players can enjoy.” twindolphinloscabos.com/golf
VIDANTA GOLF
One of the most enjoyable golf outings in Los Cabos, the nine-hole, par-35 Vidanta Golf in San José del Cabo measures 3,153 yards and is semi-flat. But don’t be fooled by the modest measurements, as it presents quite a few challenging holes that include both water and bunkers. Though it’s the oldest course in Los Cabos, Vidanta is widely considered one of its best values. vidantagolf.com

RANKED AS ONE OF THE TOP SPORTFISHING DESTINATIONS, LOS CABOS IS AN OUTSTANDING SPOT FOR ANGLERS YEAR-ROUND.
By Nick Honachefsky
Ernest Hemingway fished here. In fact, Los Cabos was a favorite spot for the original Old Man and the Sea. That should be enough to convince any fishing aficionado to cast a line in Los Cabos. But if literary legends aren’t enough to convince you, the fishing sure will. Los Cabos offers a wide array of sportfishing opportunities and is world renowned as one of the top fishing destinations. Inshore, you’ll hook snapper grouper and the wild-looking roosterfish. Offshore waters deliver world-class striped marlin fishing, with blue and black marlin,

Chartering a Boat
Whether you’re a newbie or an expert fisherman, all makes and models of anglers can enjoy sportfishing in Los Cabos, as there are plenty of options. Stop by the Pisces Fleet, which offers a variety of options for inshore and offshore fishing, starting with inshore options on 22-foot panga boats for half-day, fourhour fishing jaunts, from 7 a.m. to noon, and roughly $250 to $375. Offshore, the Pisces Fleet hosts a complete line of luxury sportfishing vessels up to 70 feet long, showcasing an all-inclusive operation, complete with bait, tackle, premium rods and reels, packed lunches, and stocked fridges with cold beer, soda, and water. Fullday charters on the standard sportfishing boats of 25 to 32 feet run roughly $550 to $900 for a half-day of fishing. Midsize sport fishers of 31 to 42 feet will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a cost of $1,000 to $1,400 for billfish and offshore tuna, while larger 48- to 80-foot sport yachts equipped with maximum luxury will charter a daylong 30- to 60-mile run for an average fee between $3,000 and $6,000. If you are a solo angler, look into buying a more affordable “share” on a charter to split the cost.
wahoo, dorado, and tuna on the menu. Fishing can be a swift 3- to 4-hour day or extend to a full-day, 12-hour marathon, with all the rewards that keep you coming back. So, what’s on tap?
BATTLING BIG GAME
The prolific purple-blue waters where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortés merge off the tip of Land’s End at Cabo San Lucas, mark the jumpingoff point for the Baja sportfishing fleet. Big game is the target as open-sea species like marlin, dorado, wahoo, tuna, and more patrol the submarine seamounts from 3 to 60 miles off the coastline. Striped marlin are the ultimate prize of offshore
fishing, and many seasoned anglers consider Los Cabos waters the absolute number one spot among all the world’s oceans to target the stripeys. Both blue and black marlin, ranging

There’s no mistaking when a fish hits the bait as the huge gold 80 to 130 class reels will zip or drag and thick, sturdy fishing rods will be bent like overloaded catapults. The optimal marlin season extends from September through midMarch, with expected average catches of four to six marlin a day. Dorado, or mahimahi, is another sought-after offshore species, most notably due to its delicious taste on the dinner table. Dorado averages 10 to 40 pounds in size, and trolled baits will also claim the golden beauties. Peak
mahimahi season is February through April. Wahoo are lightning-fast speed demons that will hit trolled lures moving at a fast clip between 10 and 14 knots. Many Los Cabos restaurants consider their flaky white meat a delicacy. For wahoo, plan your trip around the summer months.
Sushi lovers set out to target yellowfin tuna on the offshore humps as the rubyred lean meat of the fish is desired more than any other species brought on deck. September through March is prime time for tuna. Charter boats will provide all the rods and reels you need offshore to battle the beasts, plus they will pack lunches and stock the fridge full of beer, soda, and water for your utmost comfort on your day offshore.
CLOSE TO THE COAST
You don’t have to sail far offshore to experience lights-out fishing in Los Cabos.
Many small charter boats and pangas will fish right outside the main harbor and troll along the coastline from a few hundred yards off the beach up to two miles for a full- or half-day‘s fun fighting fish. You generally won’t find any marlin around, but the players within inshore waters include some prize catches like grouper, snapper, jacks, cabrilla, and the king of all fish in Los Cabos – the atavistic roosterfish, adorned with a vast and amazing coxcomb dorsal fin that spikes out of the water’s surface!
Many anglers travel from across the globe to target the roosters, or El Gallo, in Los Cabos waters, known for being the most
productive rooster grounds in the world. Buena Vista Oceanfront & Hot Springs Resort along the East Cape and Sea of Cortés specializes in roosterfish on the inshore grounds. Generally, small boats will troll live bait like sardines behind the boat, tricking fish into swimming up from the rocky bottom. Other ways to tackle inshore species include casting topwater poppers that churn and splash on the surface, mimicking a fleeing baitfish, which the gamefish find irresistible. If the seas are calm, your captain may drift over the rockpiles with cut chunk bait to catch the bottom dwellers. Remember, many restaurants around the Los Cabos marina
will cook your freshly caught fish for a small fee. Simply bring the fillets to the chef and let them work their magic to prepare and serve your fish the finest way possible — Baja style!
While there’s plenty to do on land in Los Cabos, you’re literally missing the boat if you don’t plan a day of fishing. Try something new for the first time or realize a long-standing ambition. Sportfishing in Los Cabos makes dreams come true!
Fishing Tournaments
Los Cabos hosts many fishing tournaments during the fall months that pit the skills and knowledge of captains and anglers against each other for some serious jackpots. Six main tournaments hit the Los Cabos shores. Even if you don’t fish a tournament, it’s a blast to attend the weighins and after-parties.
Last year the Bisbee’s Black and Blue tournament awarded over $9.725 million in cash! You read that right! Plan to visit these tournaments in October and early November 2023:

Featuring nearly 100 miles of coastline, the municipality of Los Cabos is home to numerous beaches that draw visitors from the world over. Whether it’s snorkeling, beachcombing, swimming, surfing, or kayaking, the local beaches are a highlight of every visit. There are ongoing efforts to preserve and maintain this exquisite natural resource Jacques Cousteau described as “the world’s aquarium,” referring to the Sea of Cortés.
One of those efforts is the worldwide standard set by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which established the Blue Flag designation. This is the gold standard for beaches worldwide that receive this designation, making it easier for visitors to identify the safest and most environmentally sound beaches for swimming or snorkeling. The Blue Flag is a prestigious honor to target sustainable development, demanding strict standards in water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety.
The effort to go green has paid off along Mexico’s Baja California Sur coastline. Of Mexico’s 70 Blue Flag–designated beaches, 22 are in Los Cabos. Those beaches include Acapulquito, Chileno, Corsario, El Surgidero, Hacienda, La Gaviota, Las Viudas, Palmilla, Santa Maria, La Ribera, Breathless, Casa Dorada, Club Cascades de Baja, ME Cabo, Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, Pueblo Bonito Rosé, Riu Palace Los Cabos, Riu Santa Fe, Villa de Palmar, Villa del Arco, Villa La Estancia Beach Resort & Spa, and Monuments Beach.
CABO SAN LUCAS
Best swimming beach: Médano Beach, one of the most popular destinations in Los Cabos, is easily accessible from area hotels and is the epicenter of daily nonstop action. In addition to beachcombing and people watching, Médano features a round-theclock party vibe. Mango Deck and The Office on the Beach are just a couple Médano Beach watering holes. Regardless of the season, it’s spring break

on the Mango Deck, which opens daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Don’t miss the all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet until 1 p.m. After the partying, there are Jet Skis and parasailing; or visitors can hop aboard a water taxi or glass-bottom boat to get a different perspective of the bay and below.
Just across the bay from Médano is Lover’s Beach and its neighboring Divorce Beach, near El Arco at Land’s End. To get there, visitors will need to hire a water taxi or other water-based transportation. Lover’s Beach is on the Sea of Cortés side of the bay, while Divorce Beach can be reached through a break in the rocks on the Pacific Ocean side. It’s recommended not to swim or snorkel on the Pacific side due to riptides and rough waves.
THE CORRIDOR
Best swimming beach: Sheltered by scenic coves, the crescent beaches at Santa Maria and nearby El Chileno both feature calm waters and dramatic landscapes. Santa Maria is a perfectly shaped horseshoe, and in such an idyllic location, it always draws a weekend crowd. Santa Maria offers a visitor’s kiosk, bathrooms, and outdoor showers. El Chileno has public restrooms and is on the snorkeling tour circuit. Early morning is best, not only to enjoy the beach but for snorkeling as well.
Also on The Corridor is Monuments Beach, a somewhat small beach and surfer’s favorite. It has easy access and is located a few miles from downtown Cabo San Lucas.
Though not recommended for swimming due to its powerful surf, Playa Las Viudas is a small sandy beach worth visiting. The beautiful scenery makes for a memorable day at the beach. Amenities include public restrooms, showers, lifeguards, beach umbrellas, and parking.
Playa Bledito, also known as Tequila Cove Beach, is also on the Los Cabos Corridor. Located at Km. 19.5, Playa Bledito sits in front of the Meliã Cabo Real and the Hilton Los Cabos. It’s a safe swimming beach, thanks to a manmade breakwater.
SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO
Best whale-watching opportunity: Punta Palmilla, along The Corridor at Km. 27, offers the best time to see whales between January and March. Arguably as impressive as Santa Maria, Punta Palmilla is another very swimmable beach worth a visit. Best surfing beach: Playa Acapulquito takes that honor on The Corridor. Located at Km. 28, this is a hit with both beginners and longboarders. The Cabo Surf Hotel & Spa sits just above the beach and is home to the Mike
Doyle Surf School, providing rentals and lessons. After tackling the waves, head to nearby 7 Seas Seafood Grille for a tasty meal.
EAST CAPE
The small village of La Ribera is about 50 minutes’ drive northeast of Los Cabos International Airport. Reminiscent of Cabo 30 years ago, its laid-back atmosphere is even more appealing given its fabulous beaches. Visitors enjoy swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, and strolling along the white-sand beach.
At Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, you can enjoy a swim and some of the finest snorkeling in the world. Visitors often see hundreds of colorful fish swimming along the reef and rocks just a few dozen yards from the shore.
Seeing and experiencing the world underwater in Los Cabos and surrounding areas is an unforgettable experience. Be prepared to encounter hundreds of vibrant tropical fish species like pufferfish and delicate butterfly fish. You may also peek at sea creatures such as giant manta rays, sword-nosed marlin, toothy sharks, groupers, and sea turtles.
One thing is certain: You will not be disappointed with your underwater experience.

TURN YOUR LOS CABOS VACATION INTO A WELLNESS RETREAT WITH ANCIENT HEALING PRACTICES AND MODERN LUXURIES.
By Shayne Benowitz
Traditions of ancestral healing on the Baja peninsula date back to the time of the Mayans, but modern-day luxury resorts and spas in Los Cabos allow visitors to tap into this ancient selfcare wisdom in new and exciting ways. Known as Curanderismo, Mexico’s folkloric healing traditions are carried out in temazcal sweat lodge ceremonies presided over by a shaman where herbs are steamed and songs are chanted in a purifying ritual. From age-old traditions to cutting-edge reinterpretations and hydrotherapy journeys to results-oriented treatments, you’ll find a wealth of options to unwind and revitalize. Whether you’re into sunset yoga on the rooftop or a boot camp on the beach at dawn, inspiring panoramas add to the transformative wellness experience.
FOLKLORIC WELLNESS TRADITIONS
Perched on the cliffs overlooking Cabo San Lucas Bay, Hacienda Encantada Resort & Residences is a sprawling oasis designed in a traditional Mexican hacienda style. Its on-site Milagro Wellness Spa embraces the culture’s ancestral healing arts wisdom. Their traditional Mayan temazcal ceremony is set in a stone igloo-shaped sweat lodge with a labyrinth at its entrance. Inside, elements of water, fire, air, and earth combine for a purifying ritual. Milagro, which means miracle, offers a wide range of massages, facials, body treatments, and yoga classes. The spa’s indoor-outdoor oasis spans a tranquil pool and a restorative Jacuzzi beneath barrel-vaulted ceilings. The Waldorf Astoria is synonymous with sophisticated luxury, and its Los Cabos Pedregal resort lives up to that reputation. The whitewashed resort blends seamlessly into Los Cabos’ rugged coastal landscape. The Waldorf Astoria Spa offers the practice of Curanderismo, an ancient Mexican tradition. Shopping in Los Cabos is a thrilling adventure. Gorgeous textiles, exquisite jewelry, and acres of original art span the region, bringing an unexpected opportunity to take a meaningful piece of the Baja peninsula back home. The best place to start is right where you are. The resorts of Los Cabos have exclusive gift shops with high-quality merchandise at affordable prices. Many also host vendors who set up shop on the property so you can shop without leaving your luxurious retreat.
Viceroy Los Cabos, for instance, features three popular retail shops: The Beach Store in the magnificent Art Gallery; KM33, a Latin
American Boutique created by Mexican fashionista Sara Galind; and The Bazaar. Each boasts an exclusive assortment of luxury brands from around the world. You’ll find anything you need, whether you’re looking for a cocktail dress, a beach hat, handmade gifts, or skin care essentials.
Downtown Cabo San Lucas is the best place to see a wide variety of traditional Mexican pottery and other handcrafted goods. Weave your way in and out of openair and air-conditioned tiendas, all within a short walk, to find that unique piece of turquoise jewelry or that distinctive piece of pottery. There are several artisanal markets throughout Los Cabos. Some are more like flea markets (where you can score one-ofa-kind treasures), and others are dedicated to the work of local artisans. Some of the most exquisite collections of silver and gem jewelry can be found at the local markets. Whatever market you choose, there is bound to be a treasure.

COVETED LIFESTYLE
In response to the growing number of permanent residents, Los Cabos’ infrastructure has improved, from hospitals and roads to internet access, which makes it more inviting for people to settle in the area long term.
Los Cabos is growing at an annual rate of 18 percent — faster than any other Mexican city — due to the increasing number of people permanently moving to Los Cabos. Many are foreigners from the United States and Canada; others are from Europe and Mexico’s interior. These newcomers are accustomed to top-rate services, and Los Cabos has invested heavily in services as a successful strategy, drastically improving restaurants, hospitals, schools, roads, and digital infrastructure.

Purposeful Travel in Baja
Los Cabos is a world-famous vacation destination packed with amenities. But it’s also a relaxing haven for those who want to get away from it all and rejuvenate body, mind, and spirit.
That’s the experience you’ll find at Prana del Mar, a 16-room, offthe-grid, eco-friendly luxury center that has been hosting weekly yoga and mindfulness retreats since 2009. Prana del Mar offers more than a vacation, says founder Erik Singer. It’s a retreat with a purpose for those who want to go beyond a mere getaway.
Practicing yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, he says, opens up the possibility of unraveling the layers of your everyday personality. Prana del Mar, located on the Pacific coastline, tends to draw “people with a more spiritual bent,” says Singer, “people that are perhaps less interested in some of the glitz and glamor of Cabo itself, that want something a little simpler, a little more tranquil, a little more peaceful.”
Don’t imagine a monastic ambience at Prana del Mar. You also can enjoy shopping in Todos Santos, whale watching, and kayaking on the Sea of Cortés, or sign up for excursions that will allow you to discover the spectacular beauty of Baja, with its amazing climate, breathtaking vistas, and beautiful beaches.
“While there may be several retreat centers in the area, there probably aren’t that many that have travertine tile floors, teak wood, furnishings brought from Indonesia, and granite countertops,” says Singer. “These features, plus the warm and welcoming service, set Prana del Mar apart from other places.”
If Prana del Mar is the investment opportunity you’ve been searching for, contact Los Cabos Sotheby’s International Realty for more information.

FUN FACT
If you find yourself drawn to the laid-back lifestyle of the region, Los Cabos real estate is a sound investment; but if you want a test run, consider Sun Cabo Vacations luxury villas and condo rentals. Wake up to the rolling waves, white-sand beaches, championship golf courses, and charming attractions at one of their curated properties. Book one of their sophisticated and desirable rentals so you have more time to explore one of the world’s most scenic destinations.
As a result of development investments and pandemic inflation, real estate prices have skyrocketed. Property is selling at or above the asking price, and bidding wars have erupted over specific pieces of real estate. So, will the Los Cabos real estate market settle down?
While property prices are unlikely to fall dramatically, buyer demand should ease slightly.
Consider two categories: high-end
luxury buyers and middle-income buyers. Luxury buyers tend to be unaffected by interest rates and usually pay in cash, whereas middle-income buyers think twice before purchasing real estate and tend to purchase when interest rates fall. The sub-$1 million mid-range market may slow a bit, but luxury purchasers show no signs of stopping.
What attracts buyers to Los Cabos is the Baja lifestyle, which is hard to put a price on. It all depends on what you want and enjoy. For those accustomed to docking their yachts and staffing their estates with chefs, housekeepers, and butlers, Los Cabos Sotheby’s International Realty has an inventory of luxurious multimillion-dollar homes.
Even with its fluctuations and regional sensitivity, real estate tends to be one of the safest investments, continually rising in value. Even though it suffers lows, when the peak comes, it surpasses the previous high peak and has an overall upward trajectory.
Investing in real estate is one way to protect your savings from the effects of inflation, and unlike timeshares or rentals, your property can work for you. You can spend a few weeks in paradise and rent it out for the rest of the year. Unlike liquid money, stocks, or cryptocurrency, it’s a more tangible option to build wealth, have something to pass down to future generations, or sell for a great return in the future.

FROM FRESH SEAFOOD AND LOCALLY GROWN PRODUCE TO GLOBAL CUISINE, A PALETTE OF FLAVORS ELEVATES THE DINING SCENE TO AN ART FORM.
By Dawna L. Robertson
With its melting pot populace migrating to the tip of the Baja peninsula from destinations like Japan, Asia, Europe, and Mediterranean regions, Los Cabos’ gastronomy scene flourishes with dishes as diverse as its global influences.
Taste buds traverse the sphere with Japanese fare at Nicksan, Swiss specialties at Alexander Restaurant, Italian fare at Romeo & Julieta Ristorante, Mediterranean at El Huerto Farm to Table Restaurant, and Asian influences with a trove of exotic spices from India and the Far East at Las Ventanas al Paraíso’s Arbol.
Indigenous Mexican cuisine, however, is the embodiment of Mexico’s vibrant culture. Creative “born and raised” chefs broaden the spectrum by merging global flavors into their family recipes passed down for generations.
Seductive menus feature such Baja delicacies as chocolate clams, dorado, smoked marlin, shrimp, and lobster. Go gourmet with Tres Sirenas’ seasonal entrees and wine pairings. Or relish such rich traditions as banana leaf–wrapped tamales with a smoky Mezcal at Pancho’s Restaurant & Tequila Bar. In Los Cabos, global and local concepts paint an incredible edible canvas beyond compare.

The Mastery of Nicksan
When chefs Angel Carbajal and Masayuki Niikura met in 1985, the duo never envisioned their passions coming together to create a culinary sensation.
A frequent Cabo San Lucas visi tor, Niikura became a regular pa tron of Señor Sushi, where Carbajal doubled as chef and manager. For nearly a decade, the pair developed a strong friendship that progressed to mentorship and eventually a partnership when they debuted Nicksan steps from the Cabo San Lucas Marina in 1994. A second eat ery followed in 2005 at The Shop pes at Palmilla along The Corridor.
Their pioneering concept produced “Nicksan Style,” which masterfully balances the textures and compositions of Japanese culinary traditions with the character and spices of Mexico. This gastronomic art form surges beyond sushi by embracing the “Honest Food” spectrum from locally sourced fresh fish and seafood to sustainably raised varieties and imported products sourced through socially responsible vendors.
Honoring his mentor, Chef Car bajal continues to create master piece recipes deliciously enhanced with his signature sauces like the one served with the cilantro sashimi. House specialties shine with creativity. Savor Sashimi Ser ranito, a delectable recipe of Half Moon Bay scallops from San Carlos in Baja, served with serrano chile oil, soy sauce, and a few drops of lemon. Spicy, sweet, and presented with paper-thin slices of chiles, the specialty is perfectly accompanied by ice-cold Jyunmai Ginjo Sake.
Nicksan’s Tuna Tostada satiates with 1.2 ounces of Pacific Ocean yellowfin tuna belly served on a rice cracker tostada with sliced avocado, habanero, infused red onion, and sesame seeds. Or dive into the bluefin tuna and red snapper featured in the Nigari selection, along with sea bass. It’s all a part of the Nicksan magic.

NATION OF FLAVORS
Mexico is a vast country with a rich history and wildly varied geography. Naturally, these elements have inspired countless recipes steeped in tradition.
Just five minutes from Esperanza, An Auberge Resort, open-air El Huerto joins Los Tamarindos with a refined farm-to-table concept. Surrounded by breathtaking Cabo landscapes, gardens, orchards, and fruit trees, this haven resembles a rustic Baja hacienda with a functioning farm meticulously planted every season. Sustainable dishes blend Mediterranean and Asian influences with Baja’s signature seafood. Breakfast and dinner menus adapt to current on-site harvests. Explore the grounds, relax in a hammock, or chat around a fire pit while ogling the star-studded Cabo sky above. Reservations are highly recommended.
Named for the legendary Mexican general Pancho Villa, Pancho’s Restaurant & Tequila Bar runs the gamut while representing each of the country’s 31 states. Savor tamales wrapped in banana leaves from Oaxaca, short ribs from Sonora, chicken mole from Puebla, and succulent seafood from Baja California Sur. Sip smoky mezcal as chefs display their mastery on a large mesquite grill. Decidedly Mexican, the eatery’s festive décor is ignited with papel picado banners, a veritable rainbow of colorful linens, and engaging murals.
Considered Pancho’s most celebrated feature, however, is its stellar bar stocked with hundreds of tequilas, mezcals, and fine liquor labels. Those thirsting for a little “Tequila 101” should dive into sampling sessions that educate on differences between the spirits and their customs and traditions.
A Los Cabos favorite, Edith’s Restaurante is a vibrant medley of Baja Californian and Guerreran cuisines, serving steaks and seafood prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Candlelight, palapas, and an intimate view of Médano Beach and the famed El Arco combine to create a magical setting for a once-in-a-lifetime meal.
With origins in the 1970s, The Office, a small palapa on the beach, was host to a local character and his clients — giving the small, unpretentious spot its name. These days, the restaurant serves deliciously colorful plates and hosts live music and events against a gorgeous ocean backdrop.
Mestizo del Mar’s commitment to regional cuisine is reflected in its emphasis on house-made ingredients, diverse techniques, and bold flavors. Chef Adán Vega, whose résumé includes some of the best restaurants in Los Cabos, is responsible for the restaurant’s organic, less-is-more philosophy.

With Pacific beachfront views in San José del Cabo, 7 Seas Seafood Grille presents succulent seafood and shellfish caught in local waters. Executive Chef Alejandro Rodriguez Ponce and his crew tap into their Mexican heritage by crafting dishes of organic, regional produce with Mediterranean, Asian, and American accents. The vast international wine list is thoughtfully curated from Valle de Guadalupe (Mexico), Napa (California), Aldige (Italy), Colchagua (Chile), Mendoza (Argentina), Barossa Valley (Australia), Bordeaux (France), Tuscany (Italy), and Marlborough (New Zealand). Farm
A visit to Los Cabos wouldn’t be complete without a Los Tamarindos farm-to-table dining experience. Both the organic farm and restaurant are set on 17 acres five minutes from downtown San José del Cabos. The slight distance from the city center adds to the rustic charm, and it’s easy to forget you’re still in Los Cabos as you approach the restaurant via a dusty dirt road.
The Los Tamarindos farmhouse dates to the 1880s and was originally used for growing sugarcane, one of the region’s major exports at the time. Everything you’ll eat at Tamarindos is either grown on the farm or sourced from local vendors and other farmers. The fresh fish is caught daily by independent local fishermen and hand selected by the chef.
A few dinner menu items include the jicama tortilla with shrimp, pico de gallo, and pineapple; grilled octopus marinated with fine herbs and served on a bed of arugula; lemongrass-baked Tamarindos farm-raised chicken; and wood oven–roasted locally raised lamb.
“The recipes we use have been handed down through generations to bring you a unique and memorable dining experience,” says Chef and Owner Enrique Silva.
Most visitors come for the delectable dinners, but Tamarindos also serves daily breakfast and lunch. For those seeking a true hands-on culinary experience, sign up for a cooking class. Visitors and students can harvest vegetables on the farm and prepare a four-course meal of Mexican fare that they all enjoy together.
For an extended visit, spend the night in one of the restaurant’s quaint farm-side bungalows among the fields. Each bungalow is a cozy one-bedroom retreat with a palapa roof that keeps the interior cool even during the summer. Other features include air conditioning, a coffee and tea station, and a relaxing patio lounge area. — Rick Stedman

Facilities at the refreshed 18-hole golf course thrive after sunset, thanks to a lighted driving range where golfers can extend their play. It’s an excellent option for refueling for tomorrow’s round or a day of Cabo exploration.
Festivals in Flavor
In a destination revering cuisine as a cultural icon, the Los Cabos culinary scene is hotter than a habanero. Local, regional, and international gastronomy are showcased in traditional soirees, ongoing resort programs, and pop-up events that find foodies drooling in anticipation.
Emerging from a mandatory hiatus in 2020, Los Cabos is ramping up its food focus by spotlighting its dazzling array of distinctive bites and spirits. While high-profile gatherings are expected to return in 2023 and 2024, resorts and restaurants have bolstered cooking classes, tequila tastings, and themed dining events to appeal to a smaller scale. Although many are exclusively offered to on-site guests, others open their doors to a broader sphere of destination visitors.
The following events are scheduled or planned for potential 2023 and 2024 appearances. We suggest you visit event websites for the most up-to-date information.

LOS CABOS NIGHTLIFE IS THE RIGHT LIFE.
By Dawna L. Robertson
Dark AfterCabo
Los Cabos is praised for its sunny disposition and easygoing beach vibe, but it is equally lauded as a dynamic, after-dark destination, igniting when the sun slips below the horizon. In Cabo San Lucas, where a handful of iconic dance clubs and live rock venues have continued to bolster the party-hardy mantra for decades, nightlife is undeniably the right life.
San José del Cabo joins the party with smoky mezcals and signature brews quenching cultured thirsts, while sophisticated resorts along The Corridor elevate the scene

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE
With prime locations in the heart of downtown San José del Cabo and on Médano Beach, La Lupita Taco & Mezcal is revered by night owls craving authentic Mexican fare that’s best savored with a local craft beer and nightcap shot of artisanal mezcal. Enjoy a cheerful demeanor enhanced with sugar skulls and bright colors adorning a pared-down dining hall. Live music amps up the evening appeal.
Baja Brewing Co. has been raising the bar on Baja California Sur’s craft brewing culture since its inception in 2007. The beer-centric company was launched with a mission to bring a craft brewing climate to Mexico similar to what exists in Colorado — where founder and brewmaster Jordan Gardenhire and partner Rob Kelly first began brewing beer while attending the University of Colorado at Boulder.
The copper-clad brewpub’s restaurant and beer garden, located in the heart of San José del Cabo's historic art district, display an original statue of Saint Lucas, the patron saint of brewers. A massive glass wall invites customers to peer into the 1,000-gallon tanks that produce the pints they consume.
Sip a cold one at Baja Brewing’s rooftop terrace at Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa on Médano Beach, where a modern cantina dazzles with spectacular views of Land’s End.
Aside from its Baja Blonde, Black, Red, and Stout, these hot cantinas let it flow with seasonal drafts on tap. Graze on creative nosh from a menu ranging from traditional pub fare and beer dough pizzas to more sophisticated specialties like panko-crusted sea bass.
As a new point of pride, Baja Brewing Co. reigns as the most decorated of 130 participating breweries at Mexico’s prestigious Copa Cerveza beer competition in 2021. Sipping and sizing up more than 600 beers in 42 categories, some 30 international judges tapped Baja Brewing Co. as the Best Large Brewery in Mexico.
CABO VIBE & VIEW
Also elevating the Médano Beach nightlife vibe at Corazón Cabo Resort & Spa, Rooftop 360 shines with creative craft cocktails and savory bites as live DJs set the tone for a highenergy evening of dancing under the stars.
Reflecting its moniker, the ninth-floor perch offers a panoramic 360-degree view encompassing the Sea of Cortés and the city skyline. Flanked by sparkling infinity pools, the chic

setting satiates with a global menu — from Mexican bites to sushi rolls perfectly paired with handcrafted signature cocktails.
The Cape, A Thompson Hotel, is a magnet for those craving sizzling nightlife in a gorgeous setting along The Corridor. Beyond the Lobby Bar, with its sunken-lounge design and pool table, The Rooftop is a sky bar with views of downtown Cabo San Lucas and El Arco. Emblematic of its Baja California Sur locale, this swanky soiree scene features lush greenery, an open-air bar, sunken communal seating, fire pits, and serene water features.
Enjoy bite-sized snacks and fresh local seafood while sipping custom cocktails like The Cape, the house’s namesake concoction merging basil and mint-infused mezcal with pineapple, grapefruit juice, and bitters.

At Viceroy Los Cabos’ Cielomar Rooftop, toast gorgeous views spanning from sparkling Pacific waters on one side and vibrant, fiery sunsets on the other. Specialties prepared on wood-fire grills and in a brick oven pay homage to the simplicity and soul of each ingredient. On Friday and Saturday evenings, live music adds to the spirited atmosphere.
SHROUDED IN MYSTERY
For the first time in more than 20 years, guests at the fivestar Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort, can enjoy live music and expertly crafted cocktails until 2 a.m. in an intimate and sophisticated setting.
Inspired by the prohibition era — when it was illegal to serve alcohol, so people had to enjoy a drink discreetly — the aptly named La Botica is an elevated speakeasy featuring art deco design elements evocative of the period. In-the-know guests enter the exclusive bar through a nondescript door off the lobby, under the guise of a vintage Coca-Cola refrigerator. Partiers are drawn in by an external entrance into a glamorous private space reminiscent of a 1920s-era apothecary.

VIBRANT COLORS, ALLURING ARCHITECTURE, AND SCENIC LANDSCAPES INSPIRE BAJA’S FLOURISHING ART COMMUNITY.
By Dawna L. Robertson
Poised at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, Los Cabos is a cultural canvas painted by the Guaycura and Chochimis Indian tribes, Spanish conquistadors, treasure-seeking pirates, and Jesuit missionaries. Packed with beauty and culture, the region welcomes art aficionados with open arms. Here you can lose yourself in the enthralling history as it is reimagined in a thriving artistic community.
CULTURAL CENTER
A bit of insight into Baja’s history will show the region was quiet in the period between Hernán Cortés’ first expedition in 1535 and the establishment of Misión San José del Cabo Anuiti in 1730, under the direction of Jesuit Nicolas Tamaral and the Spanish Crown missionaries. Fast-forward three centuries, and Iglesia de San José church, perched on the site of the former mission in the heart of town, has achieved landmark status for its bell towers, traditional art, and colorful mosaics. The revered place of worship continues to navigate its intended path with daily mass.
Tucked into whitewashed colonial structures behind the church, the San José del Cabo Gallery District has evolved from modest beginnings into an artist’s mecca. Invest in pottery shaped, polished, and painted entirely by hand by Mata Ortiz. Or score intricately beaded artworks crafted by the Sierra Madre–dwelling Huichol Indians from Nayarit and Jalisco, and Neo-Zapotec hand-painted woodcarvings from Oaxaca.
The galleries in San José del Cabo offer an impressive variety of artistic treasures. Among the high-end studios displaying original paintings and sculptures, Galería de Ida Victoria flaunts an eclectic collection from more than 20 established and emerging North American talents. Discover intriguing works by Alfredo Romera, Angel Velasco, Charles Barth, Brooke Anderson, Ignacio Guerrero, Lorena Becerra, Nancy Brazil, and Trisha Oldfield.
Considered a “living master,” painter and sculptor Frank Arnold welcomes admirers to peruse his gallery and working studio, brimming with abstract works. Across the cobblestone street, a dramatic sculpture

garden invites you to stroll amid a growing collection of Arnold’s sculptures and offers open space for special events.
From November through June, the district’s popular Thursday Art Walk spotlights Galería de Ida Victoria, Frank Arnold Gallery, and others, exhibiting a full scope of genres and mediums. Rub shoulders with accomplished creators on hand to chat about their pieces as mariachi and rock bands converge on the street. Eateries chime in with culinary magic like mole tamales, best consumed with a handcrafted margarita or artisanal mezcal.
IMAGINATIVE ALTERNATIVES
The Los Cabos International Film Festival resumed its place in the Baja art scene last year following the shutdown, and it is slated for November 2023. This highly anticipated event welcomed back cinema lovers for a weekend of intriguing exhibits and discussion panels.
Many of the area’s resorts also boast impressive art collections and exhibits. Beyond its architectural brilliance, Viceroy Los Cabos immerses guests in cinematic experiences around every turn. A new gallery will open its doors with a boldly curated
collection of works by emerging international talents. The upcoming Artist in Residence program will complement unique experiences with awakened senses for guests and locals alike. Try an immersive painting class led by local artists while viewing collections that showcase the culture of Los Cabos.
THE MAGICAL TOWN OF TODOS SANTOS
The laid-back hamlet of San José del Cabo and the artistic community of Todos Santos serve as bookends to the high-energy vacation buzz of Cabos San Lucas. Founded as a mission a decade before San José del Cabo, the Pacific Coast colonial town remained isolated until it boomed in the late 1800s as the sugarcane trade swept through. When underground springs dried up, so did its agricultural appeal until the early 1980s, when a two-lane highway and flowing springs ushered in a new era as a sanctuary for bohemians, ex-pats, and artists.
While cruising through the colony, visitors gravitate to the Our Lady of Pilar (Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Pilar), a religious relic dating back to 1733. Former haciendas, artisan shops, artist-operated galleries, and
charming restaurants emerge from the nooks and crannies of whitewashed buildings.
In 2006, the Mexican government recognized the town’s preservation of authentic history and artistic charm when granting it Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) status that nods to its “impressive rural and cultural characteristics.”
At Todos Santos Centro Cultural, an old schoolhouse turned museum, local artifacts are on display; and murals painted by socialist students emulating their compatriots Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera decorate the walls.
Music and art lovers unite at several events throughout the year, including the Todos Santos Open Studio Tour each February, where attendees can meet artists in their studios to purchase their work and gain insight into the heart and soul of each artist.
Nearly every season, a new artist is added to the already-impressive collection, which includes works by Diaz Castro, Nikki King, Jennifer Lindberg, Vincent Lamote, Robert E. Wood, Anibal Angulo, Angie Cimino, Peter Cole, Anne Hebebrand, Peter Holden, Francisco Merino, Erick Ochoa, Gloria Santoyo Ruenitz, and Antonio Viveros, among others.

Your special day will be unforgettable as you exchange vows at CostaBaja Resort & Spa in La Paz, just north of Los Cabos, while gazing out at the breathtaking Sea of Cortés. Experienced wedding planners will assist in every step of the process, from conceptualization to execution. The venues in the Puerta Cortés complex make for picture-perfect weddings and other special occasions. Most resorts offer brides and grooms the option of incorporating Mexican traditions into their celebration, providing add-ons like mariachis, authentic Mexican cuisine, and festive regional décor. So, it’s a great opportunity to get creative!
CELEBRATING MILESTONES
Anniversary celebrations are unrivaled in Los Cabos. Whether you’re celebrating 1 or 50 years of wedded bliss, it’s the perfect place to reflect, renew, and remember how relaxing and rejuvenating the Baja peninsula can be. JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa is an oasis for every preference. Take an early-morning stroll on the scenic beach to look for seashells, then soak up the sun by one of the five pools or nine whirlpools. After a delicious snack or nourishing lunch at one of the resort’s six restaurants and bars, head to Jasha Spa for an afternoon of luxurious pampering. If you prefer to get your golf game on, their 27-hole golf course, which provides stunning views of the Sea of Cortés from most of the course, is the ultimate place to get some active relaxation. If celebrating with friends and family is more your style, plenty of top-notch resorts like Pueblo Bonito and Sandos Finisterra can accommodate small or large groups and offer various packages and possibilities.
DREAMY BABYMOONS
Since Cabo is for lovers, it’s no surprise that expecting parents find it the perfect location for babymoons. Esperanza Resort’s Hola Bebé package offers a dreamy, four-night stay in a casita, various spa treatments, refreshing cocktails and mocktails, a private “Night to Remember” dinner, and a maternity or paternity photo shoot. They even provide a 24/7 cravings menu for moms- and dads-to-be. The One&Only Palmilla is also well acquainted with babymoons, and their culinary staff has managed to compile a menu that’s both decadent and healthy at the same time. The resort provides easy access to Pelican Beach for an afternoon of lounging, reading, or daydreaming about the newest family member
soon to arrive! For those who prefer a more active babymoon, most resorts are delighted to curate a custom experience, like a cooking class at Flora Farms or designing your own unique personal care products at their new fragrance studio, Hive. If you’re into art and culture, plan a day trip to San José del Cabo for museums and art openings.

Los Cabos is the undisputed Hollywood star destination of the Baja California peninsula, but it has a little secret: The beautiful, quaint, and naturally enchanting towns dot the Baja countryside only a stone’s throw from Los Cabos. Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabos are only the beginning of a wide world of wonder if you just take the time to explore the region’s lesserknown, picturesque towns. Follow the Route 1 Corridor for about 25 miles into the heart of the country until you reach the beautifully serene, blossoming pueblo of Miraflores, which delightfully translates to “look at the flowers.” With a population of just over 1,000, an intimate atmosphere lines the streets with artisan leather makers selling their creations.
SANTIAGO
Situated 30 miles north of Los Cabos, Santiago’s roots date back to 1723, born from a mission and built by an Italian padre. Tightly woven streets are lined with true cowboys, clip-clopping on horseback along the streets. A testament to the working farms Baja was born from, Santiago’s farmers produce much of Los Cabos’ fruits,
vegetables, and meats, which are served at San Lucas’ finest restaurants. The town’s museum is loaded with colonial artifacts and fossils from the local mountainsides, including shark teeth and ammonites. Stop by teeming Sol de Mayo, a small community near Fox Canyon, where a spectacular 40-foot freshwater waterfall called La Cola de La Zorra, “The Tail of the Fox,” cascades into a refreshingly cool spring pool.
TODOS SANTOS
No other tiny town creates so much brilliant artwork. Situated an hour’s ride on Highway 19 north from San Lucas on the Pacific side, Todos Santos is dotted with myriad artisan shops showcasing incredible local works of art. The small restaurants are blooming with genuine Mexican fare amid

If you’re planning an overnight stay, Hotel San Cristóbal is a white-stucco oasis standing where the golden Sierra de la Laguna mountains meet the dazzling Pacific Ocean. The 32-room boutique hotel named for the patron saint of travelers, surfers, and sailors is anchored by an oceanfront swimming pool and offers guests a true escape with a touch of luxury.
EL TRIUNFO
Famed for its early silverworks, El Triunfo’s brick buildings reflect the rich history of the area’s silver mining age. Now known for spicy indigenous food, restaurants are sparse but worth every second it takes to discover a feast fit for kings. Before you
leave, stop by the Rosario Cactus Sanctuary, a 138-acre nature reserve showcasing Baja’s prickly giants.
SAN ANTONIO
With fewer than 500 residents, San Antonio is most definitely the place to find peace
and quiet. Like El Triunfo, the town has a silver mining past with some stunning backdrops for memorable photos, such as abandoned mines and the namesake church temple. Clear your mind and listen to the whispering breezes as they swirl through the historic streets.
LA PAZ
Translated as “The Peace,” La Paz exists as a literal oasis, a diamond in the rough, as natural beauty abounds on land and at sea along the shores of the Sea of Cortés. Defined by gentle sea breezes and the benefit of soaking in stunning sunrises and sunsets, La Paz embodies the true developed Mexican village vibe, bustling with fishermen and street vendors, with a touch of plush class. Here you’ll find the stunning Velasco Garden, the Museum of Anthropology, and the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Paz, built in 1861 by Dominican priests and lined with paintings rescued from old missions. A 10-minute ride from La Paz, the uninhabited, 31-square-mile island of Espíritu Santo, a UNESCO World Heritage site, remains in its natural state, as it did when humans first set foot upon its shores over 40,000 years ago.
EAST CAPE
A highlight of the boundless, silent beauty of the East Cape is Cabo Pulmo Marine Park, home to North America’s only living hard
coral reef, a 20,000-year-old living structure spanning 45.75 square miles and populated with gregarious dolphins, breaching whales, and a natural ecosystem containing over 300 species of tropical fish and 2,000 invertebrates. A short, 10- to 30-minute ride north of Los Cabos along the scenic coastline on Highway 1 puts you in the heart of the East Cape’s Costa Azul area, whose silent pull beckons surfers to surrender their souls by catching the ultimate wave. To energize your mind, body, and spirit, stay at the Buena Vista Oceanfront & Hot Springs Resort for a relaxing dip into refreshing and healthy hot springs that flow directly from the mountains.

LORETO
Peacefully situated on the eastern side of the Baja peninsula and overlooking the turquoise waters of the Gulf of California, Loreto is a small, charming town with a central plaza, historic mission, friendly people, family-run hotels, restaurants, and beautiful views of the gulf. Loreto’s sparsely populated city is a nature lover’s paradise with more cacti than people. Along with six offshore islands in the gulf, Loreto Bay has been designated a protected national marine park and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. Loreto is a prime spot for sportfishing, diving, snorkeling, and kayaking; but a true highlight is that Loreto Bay is graced by annual winter visits by
blue whales — the largest creature to ever live on earth! Best of all.
COMONDÚ
The municipality of Comondú, a large swath of the state of Baja California Sur, mostly rests along the Pacific Ocean side of the peninsula. One of the biggest attractions to Comondú is Misión San José de Comondú, home to one of the first missions built on the mission trail. Traveling slightly south will bring tourists to the beautiful waters of Magdalena Bay, a renowned spot for spotting gray whales as they raise their young during the annual winter migration. Puerto San Carlos and Puerto Lopez Mateos also offer extraordinary opportunities to snorkel,
kayak, fish, surf, boat, and camp. Duck Island provides a full bird-watching experience, and Scorpion Bay in San Juanico is famous for one of the longest waves in the world and one of the best surf breaks in Baja.
MULEGÉ
Farther afield in the northern part of the state, the curious and adventurous traveler will be rewarded with a bucket-list experience exploring the rock art and cave paintings around Mulegé. Prehistoric sites dating back 7,500 years dot the peninsula; whereas some are easy to access, most require a trained guide. More adventurous excursions include an overnight camping trip into the mountains led by burros and trained guides.

& InfoTips
LOCATION: Los Cabos refers to two towns — Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo — found at the end of Baja California Sur, about 1,000 miles south of San Diego, CA.
POPULATION: Approximately 203,000 people live in Los Cabos.
CLIMATE: Located just south of the Tropic of Cancer, Los Cabos is a subtropical desert. In the summer, highs can reach 90° F and there are sporadic showers. Winter evenings see the thermometer drop to 60° F, with daytime highs near 80° F.
TIME ZONE: Los Cabos is on Mountain Time (MT) — one hour ahead of Pacific Time.
LANGUAGE: In Mexico, Spanish is the official language; but English is widely spoken throughout Los Cabos, especially by those within the hospitality industry.
ELECTRICITY: 120 volts/60 hertz. Electrical outlets are the same as those used in the U.S.
BANKS AND CURRENCY: The official unit of currency is the Mexican peso (MXN), but the U.S. dollar (USD) is widely accepted. All major Mexican national banks are represented in the destination and are usually open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many branches have ATMs that accept U.S. bank cards just as they do in the U.S. Keep in mind,
transaction fees may be higher; and some ATMs can dispense both Mexican pesos and U.S. dollars. While you can exchange dollars for pesos at the airport, any bank, and many hotels, the banks will usually have the best rates. Credit cards are welcome at most major restaurants and hotels. When using your credit card, the statement total will appear in pesos at the exchange rate posted on that day.
EXCHANGE RATE: At press time, one Mexican peso is equal to $0.05 USD. This rate fluctuates, so check it closer to your travel date and when you arrive.
COMMUNICATION: Most major wireless carriers offer packages that provide messaging, calling, and data services at reasonable rates. Check with your provider and ask about roaming rates in Mexico, international package options, and other travel-related services prior to your trip. The internet works quite well throughout Los Cabos, and Wi-Fi is a standard amenity at many businesses and most hotels and resorts; so Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp and other Wi-Fi–enabled apps are a cost-effective means of communication

2023 PUBLIC HOLIDAYS: Mexico celebrates a number of public holidays annually. Except for banks and government offices being closed, your vacation plans should not be disrupted by the festivities.

GETTING AROUND
Red and yellow taxi vans operate in San José del Cabo; blue and green vans cruise Cabo San Lucas. They are available 24 hours a day and are never far. You can expect to pay $50–60 USD to get from one town to the other. Buses run regularly and cost $2–3 USD, depending on the exchange rate. Accounting for stops at major hotels along The Corridor, the ride between the towns can take about an hour. Uber is also available.
AIRPORT & TRAVEL DETAILS
To enter Mexico, you need a valid passport. All foreign travelers must pass through immigration and customs. Once you have been cleared by immigration officials, collect your luggage and proceed to customs where you push a button on something that looks a lot like a traffic light; if the light turns red, your luggage has been selected for inspection. After getting through customs and immigration, you may
walk past time-share sales people eager for your attention.
Unless you’ve arranged pickup with your hotel, yellow and white mini shuttles are a good option. They are less expensive than taxis, but they won’t depart unless full, so you may find yourself waiting a few minutes.
Cab drivers and other prearranged transportation providers have a designated waiting area just outside.
Just 20 minutes north of San José del Cabo, the Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) services more than 400 domestic, international, and private flights weekly. At press time, the following airlines offered flights to Los Cabos: Aeroméxico, Aero Pacífico, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Calafia Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Interjet, Magnicharters, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Sunwing, United Airlines, VivaAerobús, Volaris, and WestJet.
Nonstop flights and connections to Los Cabos are available from numerous cities across the U.S., including Atlanta; Charlotte; Chicago; Dallas/Fort Worth; Denver; Detroit; Houston; Kansas City, Mo.; Minneapolis; Newark; Phoenix; Salt Lake City; and Seattle. From California, there are flights and connections available from Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. From Canada, there are flights available from Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.
The smaller, less frequented Cabo San Lucas International Airport (CSL) is located just 10 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas and primarily services private aircraft.
