Lierne is a national park municipality with all of Lierne National Park and parts of Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park within its borders. The municipality is 2 962 km2, encompassing forests and marshes, some mountain plateaus and many lakes and ponds. More than half of the municipality is 600 meters above sea level or more. Hunting and trout fishing are popular pastimes, all year around. There are marked hiking trails and ski trails in Lierne.

At Lierne National Park Visitor Centre you can learn about nature’s Importance to local life, and for the large Nordic carnivores; wolf, wolverine, bear and lynx. Because Lierne is one of the areas in Norway with the largest number of bears the exhibition focuses on bears. Lierne Geology Park is a part of the centre. The 11 buildings and outdoor stage at Kvelia are part of one of Norway’s most valuable cultural landscapes, the Kvelia selected cultural landscape. Every year there are events here, such as an open-air theatre. Sørli museum and Nordli rural museum showcase local history.

62 A taste of Namdalen – from the coast to the mountains
Namdalen has a lot of local flavours and culinary treasures for you to discover. Trøndelag is the Nr. 1 food region in Norway and there are many of food traditions in Namdalen that you can try. Here you can taste Atlantic cod and pollock from the Namdal coast, salmon from the amazing salmon rivers, and mushrooms and berries from the forests. Grain from local fields lends itself to flour, bread, and beer from local breweries. Fishing and hunting is common, and you will often find meat from moose or small game in local grocery stores or restaurants. Award-winning cheese is also available.
European Region of Gastronomy 2022
This award honours a region where the quality of the produce is high and the food is outstanding, with local ingredients and good hospitality. The award puts Trondeheim – Trøndelag on the international food map. The International Institute of Gastronomu, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) provides the award. Producers, restaurants, and other businesses can get certified as an ERG-business. This means the business commits to promote local produce and food. In 2022 there will be a number of food-related events in Namdalen. These events invite you to smell, taste and shop your way through some of the gastronomical treasures in the region.
