Børgefjell/Byrkije NATIONAL PARK

Børgefjell is magnificent. This is where you go for extraordinary experiences and close contact with wild nature, undisturbed by others.

There are few cabins and no marked trails in Børgefjell. The national park is not particularly touristic, but if you love seeking out exciting areas to explore with a tent and a fishing rod, this is the place for you. There are almost no technical interventions, and you will have to find your own way. Børgefjell is best suited for experienced trekkers.

The park consists of high peaks, deep valleys, plains, rivers and mountain lakes. The landscape is marked by several hundred years of Southern Sami reindeer herding, and the area is a living cultural landscape. There is still active reindeer husbandry in Børgefjell. Summer is the best time for hiking or multiday trekking. The entry points in Namsskogan and Røyrvik are excellent starting points for day trips. On a multiday walk you can fish high quality mountain trout, quench your thirst in nature’s own “drinking fountains” and experience rugged nature with rare plants and wildlife.

Børgefjell is known as a haven for Arctic Fox. The Arctic Fox population can sustain itself without support measures here.
