IQUITOS: PACAYA SAMIRIA NATURAL RESERVE AQUA M/V 4 days / 3 nights Day 01
LIMA/IQUITOS A transportation service will pick you up from your hotel in Lima (booked on your own) at the established time and will transfer you to the airport of Lima. Land at Iquitos International Airport and after collecting your luggage; board an airconditioned bus to transfer you to the main port of Iquitos where the cruise is waiting. As you settle into your spacious room, the ship will begin the journey through Yanayacu River, deep in the Amazon. There will be a meeting on the upper deck to inform about safety on board. Then the Cruise Director and the guides will give a brief orientation talk about life on board, the places you'll go and what you will see on your Amazon journey. Then, enjoy a welcome dinner while watching the river and surrounding areas through windows. Before retiring to rest, you can enjoy a cocktail on the upper deck under the stars.
Day 02
IQUITOS You will wake up early to enjoy the beautiful view of the sunrise over the Amazon River. After a delicious breakfast with a wide variety of dishes, Peruvian specialties and fresh fruit juices, board a comfortable boat to sail from the Amazon River through the Huaysi shortcut channel and explore the dark water river: the Tahuayo. There you can see terns, orioles, blackbirds, black collared hawks, monkeys and sloths. Upon arrival at Charo Lake, you can try to catch some of the ferocious piranhas and other fish. Meanwhile, the guide will tell the story of the lake and its inhabitants. Then return to the cruise to enjoy a light lunch in a dining room with air conditioning. After lunch, go on tour to the Yacapana Islands, inhabited by iguanas and you can take pictures of them. You will also have the opportunity to see and photograph both gray and pink freshwater dolphins. Continue your journey upstream toward the headwaters of the Amazon River, where the Ucayali and Maranon rivers merge. Then return to the cruise for dinner, but first you can take a “pisco sour” as an appetizer on the upper deck while watching the sunset.
Day 03
IQUITOS After breakfast, visit one of the projects where villagers are planting palms to obtain oil. The guide will also show you the artificial nests created on the sand to protect turtle eggs. Then go into the jungle to encounter wildlife and learn first-hand about the value of medicinal plants and observe the famous Ceiba tree, the highest in the Amazon. Then will return to the cruise in the afternoon.

Another option you can do that day is a guided walk with the Park Ranger where you will visit one of the projects where villagers are planting palms to obtain oil. The guide will also show you the artificial nests created on the sand to protect turtle eggs. Then return to the cruise for lunch, and after taking a nap, you will begin an expedition to see the two different kinds of freshwater dolphins and a variety of primates. Among the 13 species of monkeys resident in the National Park there are: squirrel and howler monkeys, marmosets and pygmy monkeys. Watch for alligators, and keep your binoculars ready, as you will see over 200 species of birds. Then return to the cruise for dinner. Finally, you will get on the motorboat in search of alligators, boas, tarantulas, and frogs. After this night adventure, the cruise will start sailing downstream on the Mara単on River, toward the headwaters of the Amazon. Day 04
IQUITOS/LIMA After breakfast, the cruise will sail through the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, a flooded forest covering five million acres at the headwaters of the Amazon basin. You will see one of the great spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere: the birth of the Amazon River. Here, at the junction of two major tributaries, the Ucayali and the Mara単on form the greatest waterfall in the world. Your morning excursion will be accompanied by abundant bird singing, while sailing by boat, passing along river banks populated by large-billed terns, falcons, exotic short-tailed parrots, and dozens of other birds. Then travel by motorboat to Puerto Miguel native village, where you can meet and interact with local villagers in this remote part of the world and learn more about their culture, traditions and folklore. You will also have the opportunity to exchange items for local handicrafts. After that, you will go in the direction of a small connector channel between the Ucayali and Mara単on Rivers, where you will have opportunity to see the largest aquatic plant in the world, the giant water lilies or "Victoria Regia". Return to the cruise to share a last lunch on board. That afternoon, visit the Amazon Wildlife Rescue Center, a kind of animal orphanage where manatees and dolphins receive a specialized care to save them and reintegrate them in the future into their natural habitat. Once you are off the boat, will be transferred to the airport where the guides will help you check and stay with you until you have boarded your flight back to Lima. Upon your arrival in Lima, you will get assistance for your international flight.
