Best Exhibitor Award 2011

PRESS RELEASE Berlin, 2011/03/12

BEST EXHIBITORS OF ITB AWARDED Drum roll in the Marshall House: For the eleventh time the best exhibitors will be awarded with the Best Exhibitor Award (BEA) at the International Tourism Fair (ITB) in Berlin. Within a ceremonial award show the Top 3 in each of the eleven categories were rewarded. Since years the BEA is a quality indicator for an attractive trade fair appearance. It is organized by the Cologne Business School on behalf of the Messe Berlin. To thank for their award, many prize winners performed live on stage. Burundi, for example, “raised the roof” with their drummer’s show. “The award show has become a fixed component of the supporting ITB program. In a vibrant manner the BEA displays the myriad of features and the cultural diversity of the tourism sector, thus honouring the factors which lure visitors to the trade fair”, emphasizes Martina Leicher, managing director of the consulting agency COMPASS GmbH that is leading the BEA-project since ten years now. The awards were bestowed on Saturday night of the trade fair within a ceremonial award show in front of an audience of more than 600 guests. The international high ranking guest list of the event included among others the Sheik Sultan of Sharjah. The greeting was hold by Michael Rabe, general secretary of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Economy (BTW). As every year, the BEA was under the patronage of Klaus Laepple, honorary president of the German Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (DRV). During the trade days each of the more than 11.000 exhibitors at the ITB were evaluated by a jury consisting of 30 potential tourism managers from the CBS. The evaluation was conducted using a predetermined criteria catalogue. “In the booth evaluation process, not the financial power of an exhibitor is the decisive criteria. Quality aspects like booth design, service competencies, information transfer and creativity are valued much higher” states Jan-Peter Jansen, Head of Marketing at Cologne Business School. An assessment training for the jury prior to the fair ensures the highest level of objectivity possible. As well, the ten top nominees of each category are reassessed by a different team of auditors.
