Traditional Moquegua House

The Naval Museum Prol. calle 28 de Julio, on the Ilo esplanade. Opening hours: Mon-Sun 8:30 am - 1:00 pm / 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm The museum covers the War of the Pacific through an exhibition of navigational objects from the era and the manuscripts of Miguel Grau, the famous Peruvian admiral.

The Chiribaya Site Museum Cl. El Algarrobal s/n (10 min. from the city of Ilo by car). Opening hours: Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 3:30 pm / Sat-Sun 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Ticket entry. The museum’s collection includes archeological pieces from the cultures that developed in Ilo, in particular the Chiribaya. It has a view to the El Algarrobal Valley and the Chiribaya Plantation, where Marshall Domingo Nieto was born.

The Punta Coles - Guano Islands, Islets, and Capes National Reserve System 12 km to the south of the city of Ilo (15 min. by car). Visits by prior arrangement, email: mvalverde@sernanp.gob.pe The reserve is the habitat for 3500 sea lions and species such as Humboldt penguins, otters and guano birds (pelicans, boobys, Inca terns and seagulls). It forms part of the Guano Islands, Islets, and Capes National Reserve System.

Beaches

• Boca del río

2 km to the north of the city of Ilo (8 min. by car). The Ilo River empties here, hence the name. The beach has fine sand and behind the rocks is Conchuela, another beach with privileged views of the bay.

• Wawakiki

37 km to the north of the city of Ilo (30 min. by car). This beach is ideal for camping and has fine and clear sand. Archeological remains can be found in the neighboring hills.

• Platanales

37 km to the north of the city of Ilo (30 min. by car). The caves at this beach with fine sand contain petroglyphs. Camping is possible.

• Puerto Inglés

2 km to the south of the city of Ilo (5 min. by car). The cliffs here form a natural pool of calm, crystal clear water.

• Pozo de Lisas

7 km to the south of the city of Ilo (12 min. by car). The idyllic beach of white sand and calm waters has restaurant facilities. This beach is perfect for family tourism.

• Tronco de Oro

29 km to the south of the city of Ilo (30 min. by car). With fine sand and tranquil waters, this beach is ideal for camping.

• Jaboncillo

31 km to the north of the city of Ilo. This beach is ideal for camping and has white sand and calm waters, also there is a fresh water hole.
