To make your visit an enjoyable one Purchase the entrance ticket to Machu Picchu in advance at www.machupicchu.gob.pe Take your lodging information with you: name, address, phone number, and reservation code. Exchange money or withdraw cash from ATMs at banks or authorized stores. Do not accept help from strangers. To avoid altitude sickness, drink plenty of water and coca tea on the first day. Avoid alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Eat easy-to-digest food and do activities that do not requier much effort. If you have high blood pressure, get medical advice. Go on excursions along known and signposted tourist routes.

When hiring tourist services Check the list of authorized travel and tourism agencies in IPERÚ Cusco.

Avoid hiring services that are offered out loud at air and land terminals or in the street. It is advisable to get information from more than one formal company before hiring a service. Visit their offices and request details in writing of the terms of service and cancellation policies. Take authorized taxis that are inside the air and ground terminals, or from formal companies. When buying products or contracting a service, request the corresponding payment receipt.


During the rainy season (November to March) To visit Machu Picchu, we recommend the route: Cusco-Ollantaytambo-Machupicchu town by train.

Avoid adventure sports, especially water sports, due to the high flow of rivers.

You can also request assistance from IPERÚ or the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI). Keep in mind that tourist services with very low costs do not guarantee good service.
