Winter is Pure Magic
Warm up at one of the charming coffee houses scattered throughout town, or shop, have a little lunch or dinner — Saint Paul glows this time of year.
From the loveliness of fresh fallen snow clinging to the trees to the exhilaration of gliding around a skating rink on a clear blue day, the winter season is nothing less than spectacular in Saint Paul. Where else can you find a city that holds a 10-day carnival, just to celebrate the season?
The Saint Paul Winter Carnival began in 1886 and is the oldest and largest winter festival in the country. It includes two parades, free and low-cost family activities, ice and snow carvings, live music and appearances from the Royal Family and Vulcan Krewe. Many of the events are held in Rice Park and Landmark Plaza Park, as well as the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. It’s worth planning a trip to Saint Paul to participate in the fun! wintercarnival.com
During the holidays, shop artisan creations at the Landmark Center, Union Depot, Keg & Case Market or local breweries.
Take in the GLOW Holiday Festival at CHS Field in Lowertown. Spectacular lighted exhibits will get you in the spirit of the season, plus you’ll find plenty of opportunities to shop for unique gifts.
If the weather outside is frightful, a visit to the gardens of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory at Como Zoo can be delightful. The blast of tropical temps and the lush botanical beauty of the plant life in the conservatory are always in season.
