Australian Event Awards and Symposium

SUNSHINE COAST • 21 - 23 SEPTEMBER 2016

WELCOME We are thrilled and honoured to be chosen as the first regional centre to host the Australian Event Awards. The staging of these national awards on the Sunshine Coast, reinforces our growing reputation for being Australia’s leading regional events destination. The Sunshine Coast community has long been known Australia-wide for welcoming events to our region. We pride ourselves on being an ‘event-friendly’ destination; a reputation which has been many years in the making.

These events will provide fantastic opportunities for our community and provide long term benefits for Sunshine Coast businesses and our residents. I extend a warm welcome to the Australian Event Awards participants and attendees. We look forward to hosting the Australia Event Awards here for the next three years, and through your participation hope you experience and enjoy everything our great region has to offer. Best regards

Staging these awards is a great opportunity to showcase both our region and our capability to host major events to the events industry. In 2016, we will host 60 major events and will welcome around 150,000 national and international guests generating about $100 million in economic activity.

Mayor Mark Jamieson Sunshine Coast Council

Following a number of highly competitive bids from capital cities and regional centres all around Australia, Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is delighted to host the Australian Event Awards from 2016-2018. The Sunshine Coast is an outstanding location for hosting business and conference groups and we can offer a destination with a difference. Over the past year, our convention bureau, Business Events Sunshine Coast (BESC) has welcomed 24,903 business event delegates to the Sunshine Coast, injecting $36 million into the regional economy. The Australian Event Awards will generate an additional $1.2 million in economic activity. Our BESC team secured the bid and they are to be commended, but they didn’t win this business on their own. On the Sunshine Coast, we are a friendly bunch and we like to work together. The success of this bid has been possible in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, Qantas, Sunshine Coast Airport, Con-X-ion transport, Novotel Twin Waters Resort and The Events Centre.

We want to share our unique part of Australia - a stretch of magnificent coastline for which we are famous. We will demonstrate that as a regional destination, we can offer the same level of service and innovation as a capital city, but with the added benefits of the breath-taking landscapes and accompanying activities that you don’t come across in a big city. We look forward to welcoming you to the naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast.
