For surfers, Moffat Beach offers a perfect point break, it also happens to be the home of Australia’s longest running surf competition; The Ma and Pa Bendall Classic. For adrenalin junkies there are plenty of activities to choose from, including jet skiing, skydiving and kitesurfing.
Caloundra Coastal Pathway Take in the unique scenery of the Caloundra to Kawana stretch by walking or riding along this 25 kilometre path featuring headland cliffs, historic sites, nature reserves and an esplanade of shopping and dining. The continuous pathway connects Golden Beach in the south to Kawana in the north, passing by the calm waters of the Pumicestone Passage, the heritage-listed Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion and remnant coastal rainforest at Dicky Beach. 30

Don’t miss • Jet skiing, kayaking or cruising through the pristine Pumicestone Passage • Playing a round at the Greg Normandesigned golf course at Pelican Waters • Letting the kids loose in the fountain play area at Kings Beach • Browsing the vibrant Sunday markets of The Caloundra Street Fair • The excitement of all of the AOCRA outrigging events, including the National Sprint Titles, the National Junior Titles and the Trans Tasman Gubbi Gubbi Waka Ama • All the triathlon fun and endurance of the Gatorade QLD Tri Series, the Triathlon Pink and Fun Run Pink
Recognised as one of the most important bird and marine habitats on the east coast of Australia, the Pumicestone Passage stretches for 35 kilometres, from Caloundra in the north to Deception Bay in the south. It’s an environmentally diverse area where you can observe dolphins, dugongs (seasonal) and turtles, as well as sea eagles perching in mangroves. Every summer, thousands of shorebirds travel from the northern hemisphere to seek food and shelter in the Passage, making it a popular destination for bird lovers.
Culture There aren’t many music festivals in Australia where you can enjoy your favourite band as well as an ocean dip, but that’s exactly what’s on offer at the Caloundra Music Festival. Held each year in October, this beachside event attracts big name acts as well as local artists who add their blues, rock and jazz to the ocean breeze. Another hub of cultural activity is The Events Centre, hosting all sorts of performances each month, from international ballet concerts to comedy shows. You will also find funky cafés, seaside restaurants and some great night spots along this stretch of the Coast. Twilight markets are held on the Bulcock Beach Esplanade most Fridays during holiday periods.

Noosa Everglades
Noosa boasts one of Australia’s most elegant shopping strips. Hastings Street is a relaxed, pedestrian-friendly, beachside thoroughfare that is a haven for visitors who flock to the resort accommodation, cosmopolitan cafés, designer shops and alfresco dining.
Stylish but smaller Only five minutes from the glamour of Hastings Street in Noosa Heads is Noosaville, taking full advantage of its riverfront location with plenty of great restaurants, playgrounds, barbecue areas, walking tracks and fishing platforms. A few minutes’ drive (or a short paddle) down the river from Noosa Heads brings you to historic Tewantin, a small village and the launching point for the vehicular ferry to Noosa North Shore, the Great Sandy National Park and Fraser Island. There are not only beautiful surf beaches at nearby Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach, Marcus Beach and Peregian Beach, but also small villages that are worth checking out if you love good food, great coffee and friendly people.
Hinterland village The hinterland extends from Doonan, just 10 minutes from Noosaville, through to Eumundi, Cooroy, Pomona, Kin Kin and Cooran. The green, rolling valleys are dotted with cafés, galleries, farm gates, day spas, historic pubs and boutique vineyards, and the ever-changing landscape with stunning mountain-top vistas and walking and bike trails. Under the most magnificent heritage listed fig trees, you will find hundreds of colourful stalls at The Original Eumundi Markets as it comes alive each week with artists, food producers and performers sharing their talents and goods with visitors. 38

Back to nature Some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia are tucked into the corners of Noosa National Park. Main Beach is popular for families due to its accessibility and north-facing aspect, but just a scenic walk away you will find a handful of picture-perfect beaches where you will have the ocean all to yourself. Check out the map at the entrance to the park for information about the various walking trails, and keep a look out for koalas and dolphins! Catch the ferry down Noosa River or hire a boat to explore this stunning waterway where you will come across a variety of marine animals and seabirds. Mix adventure with nature and kayak across the glassy surface of Lake Cootharaba at Boreen Point, or jump into your 4WD and head for Noosa’s North Shore, a favourite spot for fishing enthusiasts, surfers, horse riders and campers.

The Mary River and Borumba Dam are great spots for picnics, fishing, kayaking and spotting platypus. Rainbow Beach is an aquatic playground and the southern access point to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island; one of the most popular tourist destinations on the east coast of Australia, renowned for its aqua-coloured freshwater lakes, white sandy beaches, coloured sands and diversity of wildlife.

Getting wild The region is located as part of the Great Sandy Biosphere, a nature-lovers’ paradise that houses more marine diversity than the entire Great Barrier Reef, almost half of Australia’s bird species, and the world’s tallest sand-based rainforests. Tin Can Bay is one of the few places in Australia where wild dolphins can be hand-fed in their natural environment. It is also home to an annual seafood festival where you can devour fresh prawns and lobster to your heart’s content. Abundant with wildlife, Rainbow Beach and nearby Double Island Point provide an unforgettable backdrop to experiences like kayaking with dolphins and whales (seasonal), learning to surf or diving with the grey nurse sharks in the Great Sandy Marine Park.
