Festive
Welcome to OUR GREAT LITTLE CITY
ur Great Little City comes alive at Christmas, when we all come together to celebrate this special time of year.
O
The celebrations begin on Festive Friday, which signals the start of Christmas in Truro. After that, the fun continues into the new year.
From the family Christmas show and carols, to late-night shopping and Christmas markets, enjoy all your favourite festive traditions in Truro.
Navigate your way along our cobbled streets under the glow of the Christmas lights, popping in and out of the shops in search of the perfect present. You can also join the festivities on Lemon Quay, where Truro Farmers Market will be offering a taste of a true Cornish Christmas.
Of course, Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Father Christmas himself. As he awaits the big day, he will be hiding in his grotto at Truro Cathedral, waiting to hear what’s on everyone’s Christmas lists.
Perhaps you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city? Head up to Victoria Gardens and follow the festive lit path to discover more mesmerising illuminations.

Festive
FRIDAY
Start your Christmas celebrations in Truro this Festive Friday.
Festive Friday returns for a second year and will take place on Friday 18th November. Several events will run throughout the day to welcome the festive season.
The main event will be the Christmas lights switch-on, in partnership with Pirate FM and Truro BID.
From 3pm, Pirate FM's Johnny Cowling will be popping up in different locations around Truro, chatting to you about all things Christmas and building up to the much anticipated switch-on.
Between 5pm and 7pm, enjoy special entertainment from the stage in Boscawen Street, organised by the Hall for Cornwall. Then, Johnny Cowling, Truro's Town Crier and his consort, and special guests from Hall for Cornwall's Family Christmas Show will take to the stage to light up Our Great Little Festive City.
Following the switch-on, Father Christmas will hop into his sleigh for a parade around Truro.
This year’s parade is inspired by Hall for Cornwall’s Family Christmas Show, Treasure Island, and the audience are encouraged to dress up as pirates! To see the parade route, turn to pages 6 and 7, where the route is marked on the map.

Elsewhere in the city, Duchy Fairs will be bringing their Big Festive Shop Small Market back to Lemon Quay on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November. However you intend to say ‘Merry Christmas’, do so with a gift from a local trader. At the market, you’ll find everything from jewellery, accessories, and clothing, to art, home and lifestyle wares, craft and design, and so much more.
Whilst doing a spot of shopping over the festive period, keep your eyes peeled for the illuminated reindeers, brought to you by Truro BID. From Festive Friday, you will be able to spot the decorative reindeers in window displays across the city. Let us know how many you find!
So we can all enjoy Festive Friday safely, the main shopping streets will be traffic free all day, including Lower Lemon Street, Boscawen Street, St Nicholas Street, King Street, Princes Street, and Duke Street.

FINDINGFather Christmas at Truro Cathedral
Join Coppice Theatre this December for a unique storytelling and grotto experience.
Coppice Theatre will be returning to Truro Cathedral this December for a unique storytelling and grotto experience.
Father Christmas is hiding in his grotto somewhere in the Cathedral and the elves need your help to find him.
As you explore the twists and turns of the Cathedral, look out for the Storytelling Cat and listen for the Cathedral Mouse, who has always dreamed of singing with the children in the choir. Could it be this Christmas that their dreams come true?
You will then get the chance to meet Father Christmas once his hiding place has been uncovered,
when you will be able to tell him all about what you would like for Christmas and you will receive a gift.
Each show is 30 minutes long and requires walking between spaces and traversing staircases.
To book tickets for this magical Christmas experience, see the Visit Truro website.
