ATTRACTIONS
Rudolph Grotto E 6957 Grotto Avenue, Rudolph, WI 54475 715-435-3120 On top of a low hill, behind St. Philips Church, are the sprawling grounds of the Grotto Gardens and Wonder Cave. The Rudolph Grotto, started in 1920, was a fulfillment of a promise that Father Philip Wagner made to the Virgin Mary in thanks for healing from a lingering illness while studying for the priesthood. The Grotto consists of five plus acres and lush flower beds, numerous shrines, museum, and gift shop. The Grotto is set among meandering paths and crooked bridges, with shady, intimate areas for meditation as well as more formal memorials and open picnic grounds.
Late-September through mid-October, the Cranberry Highway reveals a sea of red cranberries coupled with the blazing colors of fall. The self-guided drive stretches for almost 50 miles along century-old cranberry beds from Wisconsin Rapids to Warrens, and between Pittsville and Nekoosa.

Cranberries The Wisconsin Rapids area is known as cranberry country and proud of it! Our unique agricultural heritage makes the blossom and harvest seasons special to our area. Early settlers thought cranberry blossom resembled the head of a crane, hence the name “crane berry,” which was later shortened to cranberry. Cranberry blossoms are pretty, delicate, pink flowers that bloom in late June through early July. The harvest season, is the most picturesque time for cranberries, and it occurs late September through late October.

More than 20 miles traversing through wooded areas, along the riverfront and through the city. The system is composed of five distinct trails ranging from 3 to 7 miles in length. Wisconsin River Trail (Red Trail on Ahdawagam Map) Glorious trees, singing birds, river views, parks and great company along the trail which winds nearly 10 miles through the communities of Nekoosa and Port Edwards to the south of Wisconsin Rapids and Biron to the north. Lake Wazeecha Trail at South Wood County Park Circle the wooded shoreline of Lake Wazeecha, which is the Indian name for “lake of the land of the pines,” on this 4.1 mile multi-use recreation trail, complete with picnic areas and unforgettable views. Ridge Trail at Sand Valley Golf Resort This advanced 3 mile trail traverses along the V ridge on the Mammoth Dunes golf course. The trail features expansive sand blow outs, red pine plantation, and a majestic oak savanna. Hikers will enjoy golf course views of 14 of the 18 holes, including vistas on sand ridges as high as 80 feet above the course. This marked trail begins and ends at the Sand Valley Clubhouse, stop in the Clubhouse to ask for directions to the trail. Songbird Trail at Sand Valley Golf Resort Experience a sampling of the restoration and remnant areas on-site as well as an intact red pine plantation and golf landscapes on this 1.2 mile round trip trail. Lynn Creek Nature Trail A pristine 1.5 mile hiking trail that winds around property in the City of Nekoosa with benches, a beautiful walkway, and a gorgeous river scenery.
Water Recreation Lake Dexter Developed in 1962, Dexter Lake totals some 300 acres and is surrounded by more than 1,000 acres of wild or undeveloped land with abundant wildlife and game fish. With a maximum depth of 17 feet, Dexter Lake offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities including northern pike, walleye, bass, crappie, perch, bluegills and suckers. Dexter County Park includes two boat launches, a fishing pier for the disabled and a fish cleaning house. Lake Nepco Venture onto nearly 500 acres of pristine water at Lake Nepco. Accessible from Nepco Lake County Park, located 1 mile south of Wisconsin Rapids on Highway 13, the lake and park were donated to the county in 1977 by Nekoosa Papers, Inc. The park features a beach area, boat ramp, picnic area, playground, disability accessible boat dock and small shelter. With a maximum depth of 29 feet, Nepco Lake features a wide variety of fishing including northern pike, walleye, bass, musky and bluegill.

As home to a variety of game fish, including northern pike, bass, walleye, pan fish and musky, Petenwell hosts a variety of fishing tournaments throughout the year. Locally known “hot spots” include Devil’s Elbow, the mouth of Fourteen Mile Creek, Barnum Bay, and Strongs Prairie. These areas provide abundant underwater structure and harbor good concentrations of fish. A variety of boat launches are located on Petenwell.
