Barney's Cafe, Bookham

Bookham A SMALL VILLAGE ON THE HUME HIGHWAY FULL OF COUNTRY HOSPITALITY MAKING THE PERFECT PITSTOP FOR YOUR TRAVELS THROUGHOUT YASS VALLEY. St Columbus Church, Bookham

The village of Bookham and the surrounding grazing land was once known as Bogolong. The name change is believed to have occurred in 1839, attributed to Lady Jane Franklin, wife of John Franklin, the Lieutenant Governor of van Diemen’s Land. Lady Franklin stayed in the area during her historic overland journey from Port Phillip to Sydney. Other sources suggest Bookham is believed to be a shortening of ‘Cumbookambookinah’, the name initially given to the village. It is said that childhood memories of the races at Bogolong Racetrack inspired one of Banjo Paterson’s well known poems. These days, visitors can stop in at Barney’s Café for a big dose of country hospitality. Serving up a varied menu of freshly made favourites including burgers, soups, sandwiches and quiche, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available. Don’t forget to grab a hot coffee and a sweet treat.

Perfect Pitstop on a Highway Adventure.
