A Bold Exciting New Look The RX with all-new sheet metal makes a powerful visual statement at first glance.

When seen from the side, the sharp character line that runs from the front fenders to the rear end, together with a flowing roofline, give the RX a dynamic profile. All of this helps make the vehicle sure-footed at high speed and reduces wind noise.

A truly distinctive styling cue is the blacked-out C-pillars, which provide the illusion of a floating roofline never before seen on a Lexus product. Also, newly available 20-in. aluminum wheels with larger tires improve the vehicle stance and proportions and replace the current model’s 19-in. options. These 20-inch wheels can also be customized with body color-matching inserts to emphasize the driver’s individuality.

The new RX’s rear appearance has been sharpened, now exuding a sense of chiseled, rock-solid stability with the design highlighted by LED L-shaped taillights that wrap around the sides of the vehicle, creating a wider, more authoritative presence when illuminated. When lit, a brilliant glow spans laterally from the body to the back door, a Lexus-first. Integrated dual exhaust pipes have been added to the gas model for a more premium appearance. Inside, RX’s new luxurious cabin with elegant, high-quality trim exudes warmth and class. Specially finished Yamaha laser-cut ornamentation is available for those who appreciate an additional dimension of interior refinement.

An available color heads-up display (HUD) projects pertinent vehicle information to the driver’s windshield, while the information display area, featuring an available 12.3-in. monitor with full-screen map, is situated atop the center stack. The shift lever, complete with leather boot, has been positioned away from the front of the instrument panel to optimize operability and create more space for the driver.

Rear-seat occupants are treated to more leg and knee space. The RX now offers heated outboard rear seats and a 60/40 power folding second row to enhance comfort and convenience. A newly available retractable power panorama moonroof enhances the RX cabin’s spaciousness and provides occupants with a refreshing open-air experience. The available rear seat entertainment system now includes 11.6-in. dual screens affixed to the back of the front headrests.

Smooth, Powerful and Efficient Engines Under the Hood Under the RX 350’s hood is an upgraded and more powerful 3.5-liter V6 aiming to deliver 300 hp with direct injection, mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Based on this enhanced powertrain is the RX 450h’s Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6. When combined with the electric motor generator, the combined output results in around 300 hp. All RX engines have been tuned in anticipation of high fuel economy ratings and low carbon emissions.

Enhanced Handling and Straight-line Stability When it comes to delivering precise, controlled handling, the new RX offers impressive dynamic capability. The entire chassis has been fortified to provide enhanced straight-line stability and control through turns. The vehicle’s body structure has been strengthened with added stiffness, helping to enhance its handling response while reducing engine and road noise in the cabin. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is standard, while Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) is available on select models. Each system is designed to help recognize loss of vehicle control, and help mitigate potentially dangerous situations with automatic and often transparent adjustments to help the vehicle maintain optimal traction. The RX also is offered in All-Weather Drive to help the RX’s handling performance and control on dry and slick surfaces alike.

The RX’s fully independent suspension system, which consists of MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone setup at rear, has been tuned and reinforced to enhance handling while keeping ride quality remarkably smooth. Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) is available on the RX for the first time.

AVS electronically monitors and adapts the shock absorber damping and steering to help ensure optimal handling and ride depending on the driving conditions. The system is also designed to produce less body lean through corners, providing an engaging driving experience.

In the U.S., the RX is available with specifically designed Michelin Premier tires featuring EverGrip™ technology. EverGrip™ technology has a high traction compound, expanding rain grooves that widen over time and emerging grooves which open as the tire wears.

Safety is a Priority with Lexus Safety System+ Lexus has always stressed safety in all of its vehicles, so it should come as no surprise that the new RX is enhanced in the areas concerning the well-being of its occupants.

Among the changes is Lexus Safety System+, which can help avoid or mitigate collisions across a wide range of vehicle speeds under certain conditions. Introduced globally, Lexus Safety System+ integrates several of the brand’s existing active safety technologies. These include the Pre-Collision System (PCS) that is designed to detect sudden stops initiated by the preceding vehicle and can engage automatic braking in certain circumstances; Lane Departure Alert (LDA), which issues an audible signal if it determines that the vehicle has strayed from its intended lane; and Automatic High Beam (AHB) that helps ensure optimal forward visibility during nighttime driving.

As part of a multi-faceted approach to active safety, the Lexus Safety System+ package utilizes a millimeter-wave radar that works together with a camera to help keep the RX in its intended driving lane via the Lane Keep Assist feature (LKA) and enhances target detection for the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with full stop capability under certain circumstances. Other available features that can help the driver include Adaptive High-beam System (AHS), a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

RX F SPORT For those who prefer even more excitement and performance in their luxury utility vehicles, there is the RX F SPORT (AWD models only), which will be available with both models’ engine offerings for the first time. Lexus vehicles designated with the F SPORT badge are equipped with a number of special visual and performance features that set them apart from other versions.

In the RX’s case, the spindle grille and lower center piece of the rear bumper incorporate an “F” mesh design, instantly giving the vehicle a sportier flair. New 20-inch alloy wheels with graphite finish, exclusive to the F SPORT, also help give the RX a commanding presence. Inside, the driver is treated to a custom F SPORT instrument cluster with a TFT Multi Information Display (MID) as well as a sport steering wheel, featuring perforated leather trim, an F SPORT emblem, and paddle shifters.

Exclusive colors and trim pieces are also part of F SPORT. The RX F SPORT’s performance on the road has been enhanced by an active stabilizer system whose cutting-edge technology helps keep the vehicle’s body amazingly flat through corners. Created by driving enthusiasts for driving enthusiasts, the dramatically styled 2016 Nissan Maxima looks like nothing else on the road today – and drives like nothing in the segment. The all-new Nissan flagship not only resets Maxima’s iconic “4-Door Sports Car” positioning, it sets a new standard for style, performance and technology in the large sedan segment.

Now offered in five grade levels, including new SL, SR and Platinum grades, the 2016 Maxima goes on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide in summer 2015.

The 4-Door Sports Car – Reimagined and Re-Energized A virtual clone of the stunning Nissan Sport Sedan Concept, the new Maxima is 1.3 inches lower and 2.2 inches longer than the previous generation design. It is also lighter and offers greatly increased torsional rigidity, all of which help Maxima push the performance envelope in its segment.

While the new Maxima’s exterior projects a distinctive upscale look through its lower profile and wide stance, the heart of this newest generation 4-Door Sports Car is its completely revised 300-horsepower 3.5-liter VQ-series V6 engine and new performance-oriented Xtronic transmission.

The engine utilizes more than 60 percent new parts (compared to the previous generation 3.5-liter V6), applying lessons learned from the Nissan GT-R such as sodium filled valves, to achieve a high specific output of 85.7 horsepower/liter. Torque is rated at 261 lb-ft.

The comprehensive re-engineering effort also resulted in a considerable 15 percent increase in highway fuel economy, to an estimated 30 miles per gallon. City fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg.

Well-matched to the new powerplant is a new Xtronic transmission, which, with its lack of fixed ratios, affords the specific advantage of always being in the right gear at the right time. A wider gear ratio range allows for stronger acceleration from a standing start and an all-new D-Step shifting logic allows rapid shifts at high throttle openings. An all-new shift logic holds rpm when it detects high-G cornering, allowing for seamless re-acceleration on corner exit.The all-new Maxima also features for the first time a Drive Mode Selector (Sport and Normal modes) that adjusts throttle response, transmission tuning, steering feel and Active Sound Enhancement tuning.

In Sport mode, the engine throttle response increases, the Xtronic transmission programming changes for more aggressive shifting under braking and gear holding, the steering weight increases and the Active Sound Enhancement system further amplifies the engine note in the cabin.

The foundation for the new Maxima’s enhanced handling and ride comfort starts with a redesigned platform that features increased use of high strength steels, including the first use of 1.2GPa high strength steel in a Nissan sedan. This allows the 2016 Maxima to not only boast a 25 percent improvement in torsional rigidity, but also contributes to an 82-pound weight reduction (versus the previous generation), giving Maxima a better power-to-weight ratio than a BMW 335i or Acura TLX V6.

The suspension is an independent subframe-mounted strut/coil spring design in front. In the rear is an independent multi-link double wishbone design with ZF Sach dampers. The rear dampers features a monotube design, often found in performance applications, for enhanced performance and fade resistance. Large stabilizer bars are found front (26.0 mm) and rear (26.5 mm). Responsive braking is provided by 4-wheel power-assisted vented disc brakes, standard 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

Steering is provided by a vehicle speed-sensitive hydro-electric power-assisted steering (HEPS) steering system. Maxima comes with standard 18-inch machined finish aluminum-alloy wheels with painted inserts and 245/45R18 all-season tires.

For the ultimate 4-Door Sport Car enthusiast, the new SR trim was conceived with the specific goal of pushing Maxima’s performance boundaries further than ever before. The Maxima SR-exclusive hardware starts with unique suspension damper tuning and a larger front stabilizer bar. Monotube rear dampers, which provide better high-temperature fade resistance than twin-tube designs and are typically found on higher-end sports cars, were originally specified for the SR grade only. The development team found that the benefit of the monotube dampers was so significant that the damper design was carried across to all grades of Maxima.

The Maxima SR-exclusive performance upgrade also includes a segment-first Performance Chassis Damper, which is installed on the front section of the chassis to help quell high frequency vibration in the body that can result from the stiffer suspension.

A similar damper is used on the Nissan 370Z NISMO. In addition, the Dual Panel Panoramic Moonroof offered on Maxima SL and Platinum grades was eliminated to help lower the SR’s center of gravity and further enhance torsional rigidity (versus moonroof-equipped models).

And, along with special Alcantara seating inserts and steering wheel insert for highgrip at key touch points, Maxima SR’s Integrated Dynamic-control Module (IDM) system adds a completely new element of electronic chassis management to the Maxima.

For example, Active Ride Control (ARC), a feature within the IDM system, uses targeted brake applications after the vehicles encounters a bump or undulation to immediately improve the level of the body, allowing the SR to offer a ride quality that defies its sporting intention.

A Design Masterpiece, Inside and Out While a groundbreaking presence is exactly what you’d expect of a sports car wrapped in a 4-door sedan body, Maxima’s global design team went far beyond expectations.

In order to design a groundbreaking sports sedan, Nissan designers visited the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels. The cockpit design of their aircraft is echoed in the wrap-around design of the Maxima. Externally, Maxima is lowered, sculpted and streamlined to achieve a sweeping aerodynamic profile that has more than a little jet fighter to it. To bring all this inspiration to life, a special metal stamping technique was developed, adding the distinctive powerful gesture to its bodyline and deeply scalloped doors.

Back on the ground, Maxima’s bold front end combines Nissan’s signature V-Motion grille and new lighting features, which add to its defining presence on the road.

The boomerang-style headlights include standard LED Signature Daytime Running Lights. In the rear, two-piece taillights with their own integrated LED signature complete the distinctive lighting theme.

Maxima’s highly distinctive profile comes from its floating roof appearance with blacked-out A-pillars similar to the Nissan GT-R. Combined with the same blackout treatment applied to the B and C pillars, it creates a wraparound canopy appearance.

The 2016 Maxima’s canopy look is accented with an available Dual Panel Panoramic Moonroof (standard on SL and Platinum grades), which gives front and rear occupants an uninhibited view of the sky above.

The futuristic appearance is finished off with large dual exhaust chrome tailpipe finishers and 18-inch machined aluminum-alloy wheels. Maxima SR adds 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels that use a unique a diamond-cut machined finish. One of the most unique design aspects of the new Maxima is the “4DSC” embossed within the taillights and headlights, a subtle reminder of Maxima’s signature 4-Door Sports Car heritage.

The new Maxima is available in nine exterior colors: Bordeaux Black, Storm Blue, Super Black, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Pearl White, Deep Blue Pearl and two Maxima-exclusive exterior colors – Forged Bronze and Coulis Red. Maxima’s totally redesigned interior is anchored by a “command central” driver’s cockpit and a premium bespoke style crafted execution. The focus on the driver begins with a center stack angled seven degrees toward the driver (a lesson learned from the legendary GT-R) and a floating console that sits higher than the previous generation Maxima design and puts key controls within easy reach. For example, the standard Nissan Intelligent Key™ start switch is now located on the console and pulses when the driver enters the cabin.

The console also features luxurious padding on the sides with contrasted stitching. A new Display Commander control on the console allows fingertip control of the center display as befitting a premium sport sedan.

Maxima’s interior execution was a strong focus from the onset of development, with the goal of offering an interior that truly rivals luxury vehicles. It offers genuine stitching on the instrument panel, doors and console, available ambient lighting, available premium Ascot leather seating surfaces with diamond-quilted inserts, unique faceted finishers and a sporty D-shaped (flat-bottom) steering wheel.

The team even turned to unique material choices like Alcantara, typically found on high-end exotics, to deliver on the premium promise.

Nissan’s unique Zero Gravity front seats with sport bolstering are standard (8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat) and offer increased softness provided by a new three-layer foam design. They are offered in premium cloth, leather-appointed or premium Ascot leather-appointed seating surfaces.

Heated and Climate-Controlled front seats and steering wheel are available depending on grade level. The rear seat now features a standard 60/40 split fold-down design.

As with the exterior, interior colors were carefully considered to fit with Maxima’s exclusive sports-premium personality. While most large sedans stick with black and beige motifs, the new Maxima SR is offered with an additional deep, rich Camel interior. Even the standard Charcoal color seating features blue contrasting stitching and the Cashmere (beige) seat color is lighter than usual, offering a higher contrast with the black surface areas.

Resetting the Expectations of Next-Generation Technology Maxima’s next-generation premium-level technology features include NissanConnect with standard navigation on all trim levels. The 8.0-inch color display features multi-touch control for intuitive smartphone-like gestures such as swiping and pinch-to-zoom. Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant (Android only) and Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio are also standard.

Along with SiriusXM Satellite Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link™ applications (Sirius XM subscription required, sold separately), Online Search with Google® and other connectivity features, the system is paired with an also standard 7.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD) within the instrument cluster.

The ADAD display was a specific focus during development. Two screens in particular were developed including a Home screen that shows navigation routing, digital speed and audio information on the same screen, giving the driver all requisite information at a glance without having to scroll through separate screens. A Sport screen offers the Maxima driver a unique “Power” meter, which shows actual engine output, flanked by gauges that display oil pressure and transmission oil temperature respectively for the discerning enthusiast. Swipe-to-Navigation is another hidden feature this system offers, allowing the driver to set a route on the navigation screen and the swipe towards the ADAD to bring up the directions.

The available 11-speaker Bose® audio system was developed to deliver the ultimate premium audio experience befitting Nissan’s flagship sedan. The development team benchmarked luxury sedans several classes above Maxima with the goal of delivering the highest audio fidelity experience in the segment.

Enhancements (versus the previous generation audio system) include a more optimal placement of the tweeters to enhance staging, addition of more speakers and introduction of new sound processing technologies. These technologies include Bose Center Point Surround Stage technology, which can deliver a surround sound experience from even a two-channel audio source, and a driver’s seat optimization mode that allows for a driver-centric audio stage.

All Maximas are equipped with two USB inputs with music playback capability enabled through either port. These ports are housed in the media bin on the console, which is large enough to fit an iPhone 6 Plus.

Maxima’s luxury-level interior quietness is enabled by the application of laminated glass, not only on the windshield but also on the front door windows – the latter being a hallmark of upscale luxury vehicles. An Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system works much like noise cancelling headphones and helps reduce unpleasant low-frequency sounds (available with Bose audio system only).

All the efforts to quell unwanted noise simultaneously introduced a new issue – how to ensure an authentic engine note in the cabin during spirited driving, as would be expected by the Maxima owner. The solution was the all-new Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) system that works by enhancing existing engine sound from the legendary VQ35 V6 powerplant into the cabin, delivering a stirring experience.

Engaging “Sport” mode takes the stirring engine note a step further with the system allowing even higher engine note amplitude in the cabin.

Convenience features befitting a luxury vehicle are part of the Maxima’s suite of available equipment. Many of these features are not even offered on many luxury nameplates and are found standard on various Maxima trims. Advanced Safety, Security and Driving Aids The new 2016 Maxima offers an extensive range of safety, security and driving aids – many included as standard equipment (depending on grade level). For example, Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW) are all standard equipment on the SL, SR and Platinum grades.

Additionally the Maxima Platinum grade features Nissan’s innovative Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection (MOD) that provides a 360-degree “surround view” of the vehicle.

Maxima Platinum also offers standard Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system, which helps alert the driver when drowsy or inattentive driving is detected. Studies have shown that drowsy driving is involved in as much as 21 percent of fatal car accidents (Automobile Association of America Study, Nov. 2014). The Driver Attention Alert system provides an audible and visual warning if the system judges that the driver may not be attentive (using analysis of steering inputs to detect changes in the driving behavior).

Maxima comes equipped with standard Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) for the driver and front passenger seats, which includes supplemental front air bags, seat belt sensors and an occupant classification sensor (for the front passenger seat), front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags and roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags with rollover sensor for front and rear outboard occupant head protection.

Also standard are 3-point rear seat belts for all seating positions, front seat belts with dual pretensioners, load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, emergency inside trunk release, Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with Easy-Fill Tire Alert. There’s a new hybrid in town, and it’s called RAV4. Toyota has been the overwhelming gas-electric hybrid sales leader in the U.S. since 2000. Now, 15 years after the first Prius was sold in the U.S., Toyota has unveiled its eighth hybrid offering as part of the refreshed 2016 RAV4.

Launching this fall, the RAV4 Hybrid will be targeted towards young adventure-seeking couples looking for a vehicle that provides utility, versatility, capability and excellent fuel efficiency.

Making the Grade(s) With Refreshed Styling and New Technologies The conventional gas version RAV4 will come in four grades: LE, XLE, Limited and the new SE. Together with the new Hybrid XLE and Limited, all 2016 RAV4 models will feature refreshed exterior styling, providing a sleeker, more dynamic appearance. It starts with a new, stronger looking front fascia with an available LED trifecta (Headlights, Daytime Running Lights and Hi-Lo Headlights). The new styling extends along the lower rocker panel to the rear bumper for a flowing visual appeal.

A new rear bumper and lift gate with available LED taillights add a premium touch.

Additional new exterior features include front and rear silver skid plate garnishes on most models and a standard shark fin antenna. An all-new wheel lineup and three new exterior paint colors (Silver Sky Metallic, Black Currant Metallic, and Electric Storm Blue) round out the exterior design.

Additional convenience technologies include front and rear parking sonar, available Smart Key, and a Homelink garage door opener (standard on Limited grade). Bentley’s Most Performance-Orientated Luxury Cabin The inspiration for the interior comes from the continuous line that runs around the cabin, driving through the console and into two symmetrical wings before flowing into the door and looping back into the console armrest. Two elegant quilted sports seats are positioned either side of the narrow centre console which houses exquisite driver controls and a highly intuitive 12� touch screen. These features combine futuristic technology seamlessly with progressive Bentley craftsmanship.

The BMW X5 xDrive40e is the first plug-in hybrid production car from the BMW core brand. It combines the versatility and luxurious ambience of the X5, along with the superb traction provided by the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, with BMW’s EfficientDynamics eDrive technology for outstanding efficiency.

The Hybrid Drivetrain: an advanced partnership The drive system of the BMW X5 xDrive40e comprises a four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, and a synchronous electric motor integrated with the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The lithium-ion high-voltage battery pack can be topped up with mains electricity from any standard domestic power socket, or more quickly from the BMW i Wallbox, as well as at public charging stations. The high-voltage battery, which also supplies power to the battery for the 12V electrical system via a voltage transformer, is housed underneath the luggage compartment floor, where it is well protected in the event of a crash. With a capacity of 500 – 1,720-litres, the luggage area is barely compromised compared with other X5s. The standard charging cable can also be stored in a hinged compartment under the luggage area floor.

Short, everyday journeys in urban areas can easily be completed with zero tailpipe emissions, while actual fuel consumption is reduced substantially when driving for distances of up to approximately 15 miles in urban traffic. Driving in this way equates to an equivalent 94.2mpg, setting a new benchmark for efficiency in its segment.

On longer journeys, when both engine and motor need to be deployed, the powertrain keeps the fuel consumption and emissions figures far lower than in comparable models with similar power outputs. Assuming the high-voltage battery is fully charged, daily commutes of up to 37 miles can therefore be completed with a fuel consumption of no more than 43.5mpg, depending on driving style. What’s more, when the fuel tank is filled to its 85-litre capacity and the high-voltage battery pack is charged, the BMW X5 xDrive40e also boasts the X5’s customary long-distance capabilities for travelling on holiday, for example, when it still succeeds in keeping fuel consumption above 25.7mpg.

BMW TwinPower Turbo and BMW eDrive technologies The 2.0-litre internal combustion petrol engine fitted in the BMW X5 xDrive40e has already won the coveted title of “International Engine of the Year” three times. It features a TwinScroll turbocharger, High Precision Injection, and VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and variable camshaft control on both the intake and exhaust sides (Double-VANOS). The most powerful four-cylinder petrol unit in the BMW Group’s engine portfolio is notable for its eager power delivery, delightfully free-revving performance and highly refined character. It generates a maximum power of 245hp and 350Nm of peak torque.

The electric motor has an output of 113hp, while its maximum torque of 250Nm is available instantly in typical electric drive fashion. This boosts the engine’s output for increased responsiveness with absolutely no delay when accelerating from stationary, as well as providing strong performance whenever a quick burst of speed is required.

The BMW X5 xDrive40e completes the 0 to 62mph sprint in just 6.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 130mph. In all-electric drive mode, the vehicle is capable of a top speed of 75mph, again, electronically limited.

BMW xDrive permanent all-wheel drive even in all-electric mode The combined power of the two drive units is deployed by an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the BMW xDrive permanent all-wheel-drive system. Shift paddles on the steering wheel are an option; these enable the driver to swiftly make manual gear selections. xDrive ensures superb traction in all weather and road surface conditions, together with excellent stability and increased agility during cornering. An electronically controlled multi-plate clutch provides the basis for fully variable distribution of the drive torque between the front and rear wheels.

As it is linked to the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), the xDrive system is capable of acting in advance to counter vehicle understeer or oversteer, and to split the distribution of torque for the best handling balance. The current status of power distribution and traction can be viewed in the iDrive display.

Configuration via The Driving Experience Control switch and eDrive button The eDrive button on the centre console lets drivers tailor the powertrain according to their own preferences and situation. When the vehicle is first started, the default AUTO eDrive setting is activated, with both engine and electric motor working efficiently together. The electric motor alone is used for setting off with normal power requirements, while the engine cuts in at around 44 mph or when the driver wishes to accelerate briskly. In this mode, the intelligent operating strategy determines the most efficient drive combination at all times and switches to it automatically. The driver can also switch to the all-electric drive mode setting MAX eDrive, whereupon the vehicle is powered solely by the electric motor. This mode is designed for comfortable driving with zero local emissions, and offers a maximum range of approximately 19 miles at a limited top speed of 75mph.

The third mode available is the SAVE Battery setting, which allows the driver to conserve or build up the high-voltage battery’s reserves for later on. When driving on the motorway, for instance, the state of charge can be kept constant or even boosted in order to use the high-voltage battery’s power for all-electric driving in urban areas later in the journey. In this way, the stored electrical energy can be selectively deployed exactly when required.

The BMW X5 xDrive40e also features as standard the Driving Experience Control switch, just like the conventionally powered model variants of the X5. This can be used to activate the vehicle set-up modes COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO, which each have the effect of altering the throttle mapping, the steering characteristics, the responses of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, as well as the characteristics of the Dynamic Damper Control included as standard on the BMW X5 xDrive40e. Instrument cluster and Control Display with hybrid-specific readouts The BMW X5 xDrive40e features a black-panel instrument cluster which has had hybrid-specific functions added to its array of readouts. The drive readiness display positioned in the lower part of the engine rev counter switches from “OFF” to “READY” when the start/stop button is pressed. The high-voltage battery’s state of charge is visualised in the form of a battery symbol below the gear display. The Driving Experience Control switch setting is also indicated, as is the operating mode selected with the eDrive button. Depending on the selected drive mode, information on the vehicle’s electric and total range, current fuel or electricity consumption, recuperation of electrical energy in the high-voltage battery and the progress of vehicle charging can likewise all be shown in the instrument cluster.

Model-specific menu options and readouts are also available in the iDrive operating system’s Control Display. BRABUS ROCKET 900 ñ that is the new reference for high performance in the luxury class, which celebrates its world premiere at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. BRABUS builds this super car based on the new Mercedes S 65.

At the heart of the luxury sedan is the BRABUS ROCKET 900 6.3 V12 Biturbo increased-displacement engine with a peak power output of 662 kW / 900 hp (887 bhp) and a peak torque of 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft).

The power unit in the bow shoots the four-door car from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is in excess of 350 km/h (217 mph).

The 12-cylinder engine of the S 65 is revised in every detail in the BRABUS engine shop, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art machine park. The installation of a custom BRABUS billet crankshaft with longer stroke in concert with a larger cylinder bore, matching pistons and precision-balanced custom billet connecting rods increases the displacement from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 384 cubic inches).

Modifications to the engine peripherals also play a large role in the enormous power output. The two production turbos are replaced with turbochargers that have a larger compressor unit and a larger turbine as well as modified exhaust manifolds. Down pipes with a diameter of 80 millimeters (3.1 inches) are also included in the conversion, as is a stainless-steel BRABUS high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts and actively controlled butterfly valve.

Just as crucial is a perfect air supply of the engine. To this end, the BRABUS engine specialists developed the BRABUS 900 intake module, which draws its air through an air duct in the hood directly from the radiator grille. The front bumper of the S 65 is upgraded not only visually with the BRABUS front spoiler lip and the front bumper attachments with a markedly sporty clear-coated carbon-fiber finish. The shape optimized in the wind tunnel also reduces lift on the front axle. This measure contributes to further improved handling stability at high speeds.

The front fenders are upgraded visually with a clear-coated carbon-fiber BRABUS design element. Customers can choose from three different designs: mirror-polished Monoblock VI wheels with six double spokes, the Monoblock F cross-spoke styling and the new Monoblock R wheel with dimensionally offset pairs of spokes. The BRABUS ROCKET 900 is also available with the innovative BRABUS ìiBusinessî multimedia system. It uses the latest generation of Apple computer technology for entertainment and global communication via phone and internet. The BRABUS ìiBusinessî multimedia system integrates an iPad mini tablet computer perfectly into the rear compartment. To this end, a special center console was developed, which is positioned between the two individual seats in the rear. It features a docking station and holds the tablet securely in place when not in use. It also recharges the battery of the computer.

The iPad mini is not only used for communicating with the outside world. The tablet computer can also be used to control all functions of the BRABUS ìiBusinessî system and the COMAND on-board information system. In addition, the mobile computer is connected via InCar hotspot to the Mac Mini, which serves as the host computer.

The ultra-small and yet especially powerful computer is housed securely in a power-retractable drawer tailored to the design of the Mac mini in the trunk of the luxury liner. The BRABUS programmers developed an innovative BRABUS Remote app for the secure communication between the various components of the multimedia equipment.

A 15.6-inch TFT display with an aspect ratio of 16:9 serves as the central monitor for the iPad mini and the other devices of the multimedia system. The power-retractable screen is integrated elegantly into the chic Alcantara headliner. The standard screens in the back of the front head restraints can also be used for watching TV via DVBT or other programming sources in addition. The BRABUS ROCKET 900 is connected to the internet via 4G mobile telecommunications technology. The music of course comes from an Apple iPod touch of the latest generation, whose 64GB memory can store more than 14,000 songs.

The sound is reproduced via the sound system of the S-Class. The entire system is stylishly integrated into the BRABUS fine leather interior. It is finished to perfection down to the last detail and sports a tasteful combination of light-colored vellum and black. The passengers are welcomed to the interior by stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo, whose color alternates between red and white. The engineers and designers of STARTECH, a BRABUS Group company, have developed sporty-elegant carbon-fiber aerodynamic-enhancement components for the bodywork, tailor-made 21-inch wheels and attractive interior options. The STARTECH REFINEMENT components and conversions are available for all coupe and roadster models of the Jaguar F-Type series.

Adding even more sporty emphasis to the dynamic lines of the two-seater with innovative bodywork components was a challenge the STARTECH designers mastered beautifully. All STARTECH aerodynamic-enhancement components for the F-Type are manufactured from clear-coated carbon fiber. To make them not only ultralight, but also give them high strength, they are manufactured in an autoclave using the complex prepreg process, the same process used in motor racing and aerospace engineering. The STARTECH REFINEMENT front component for the F-Type was designed to replace the lower section of the production bumper in its entirety. It drops lower and forms an even more pronounced spoiler lip. WhatĂ­s more: on the sides the aerodynamic-enhancement component trails off into raised spoiler flaps, which not only give the sports car a generous helping of racing looks, but also further reduce lift on the front axle at high speeds. The face of the Jaguar receives some added sporty emphasis with the STARTECH hood scoops and the fairings for the side mirrors.

But the mirror fairings are not the only things that upgrade the sides of the F-Type.

The STARTECH designers have developed tailor-made and markedly sportily styled designer fenders made from carbon fiber that replace their production counterparts.

A vertical clear-coated carbon-fiber blade behind the wheel well suggests an air outlet. The Union Jack flag and the STARTECH REFINEMENT logo, both also integrated into the fenders, document the origin of the refined sports car.

The STARTECH designers also developed special inserts made from clear-coated carbon fiber for the production rocker panels. They are also shaped like raised side flaps and consequently lend the two-door car an even more aggressive side profile.

The standard rear bumper insert of the Jaguar is replaced with the STARTECH carbon-fiber diffusor. The aerodynamic-enhancement component impresses with its sophisticated air deflection and visible carbon-fiber structure. Patented 30-way Lincoln-designed seats use a new-to-market design that conforms to passengers’ sizes and shapes. The passenger-side rear seat can fully recline by moving the front passenger seat forward with the touch of a button.

From a panel mounted on the through-center console, rear passengers also can control climate settings and the Revel Ultima audio system, which allows passengers to select from three surround-sound modes: Stereo, Audience and On-Stage.

Rear-seat comfort is further highlighted by an SPD SmartGlassÂŽ tinting sunroof, which allows passengers to control heat from direct sunlight. With the touch of a button, the glass can cool the vehicle interior by as much as 18 degrees Fahrenheit, while blocking 99 percent of UV rays.

The Range Rover is converted into one of the world’s most exclusive pickups following the best coach building tradition that was once common for English luxury cars in particular. The STARTECH engineers and constructors employed state-of-the-art technology to develop the conversion from a five-door car to a classy transport specialist with pickup bed. This not only ensures lines that are visually integrated into the original vehicle design in an equally striking and harmonious fashion, but also that the body has the same torsional rigidity as the base car. The elaborate nature of the STARTECH body conversion is demonstrated by the mere fact that the transformation from an off-roader to a pickup required designing and manufacturing no less than 100 bodywork components from aluminum, carbon fiber and steel.

The pickup offers five comfortable seats and is thus just as spacious as the original vehicle. The STARTECH sheet metal specialists integrated a new rear bulkhead with heated tinted rear window behind the individual seats in the back. The wall to the pickup bed is invisibly welded to the new shorter roof skin, which like on the production seems to be floating on air, and to the also newly developed C-pillars. Despite the shortened roof, the panoramic sunroof is fully retained.

The plastic-lined pickup bed is almost square and with the tailgate closed offers a loading length of 110 centimeters. When the tailgate is opened, either by remote control or by a push of a button in the cockpit, another 60 centimeters are available for carrying cargo. Consequently, the STARTECH Pickup offers plenty of space for golf or other recreational equipment. Especially customers from the Arab region like to use the pickup bed also for transporting a securely fastened cage that holds their falcons for the hunt.

In hallmark STARTECH fashion this pickup conversion also sports a host of detail solutions. For example, the carbon-fiber side trim that provides the transition from the C-pillars to the tailgate is more than just visual decoration: in conjunction with the STARTECH roof spoiler adapted specifically to the new shape of the roof they also reduce turbulence created by the relative wind at high speeds.

This design feature also plays a role in the safe transport of the particular cargo. The billet aluminum elements in the tailgate likewise demonstrate a great love of detail: they too are not just decoration, but are also designed to help securely strap down the cargo.

The one-of-a-kind STARTECH warranty of three years, up to 100,000 kilometers (see STARTECH Warranty Terms and Conditions, updated June 2013) vouches for the outstanding quality of the conversion work.

Incidentally, the STARTECH Pickup concept goes beyond merely offering functional and visual advantages: in many countries of the world luxury cars such as the Range Rover are subject to high import duties and luxury taxes. The conversion to a pickup means that the STARTECH multi-utility vehicle meets the prerequisites to be registered as a commercial vehicle in many countries, which often eliminates these fees when the vehicle is imported. As a result, despite the elaborate conversion, the exclusive STARTECH Pickup may be cheaper for owners in such states than a production luxury SUV. The all-wheel-drive car with pickup bed is visually even more extravagant in the STARTECH WIDEBODY version, which was designed for the current Range Rover with short or long wheelbase.

All components of this aerodynamic-enhancement package are made in OEM quality from PUR-R-Rim to ensure a perfect fit. For adding markedly sporty highlights, the STARTECH REFINEMENT program offers a host of additional carbon-fiber elements, which in particular on the fire-engine red show car for the 2015 Auto Shanghai show perfectly complement the components of the pickup conversion manufactured from the same materials.

The face of the STARTECH Pickup is even more striking thanks to the front fender flares and the STARTECH WIDEBODY front bumper that replaces the production bumper in its entirety. This impression is further boosted by the integrated LED daytime running lights or LED side markers and the smallest LED front fog lamps currently available on the market. The integrated front spoiler and the side air deflectors reduce aerodynamic lift on the front axle at high speeds and consequently improve handling stability. More markedly sporty highlights are added by the radiator grille and clear-coated carbon-fiber trim on the hood.

The side view is dominated by the typical pickup lines at the rear and by the curved STARTECH front and rear fender flares, which are harmoniously tied together by door components that extend all the way to the rocker panels.

Carbon-fiber trim for the stylized gills on the front doors and the side mirrors as well as carbon-fiber inserts for the door trim and the stylized rear air intakes lend the four-door car a touch of motor racing flair.

To match the powerful appearance of the STARTECH Pickup, the 80-mm wider fenders offer room for the largest and moreover technologically outstanding STARTECH wheels: as a contrast to the red paintwork, the STARTECH Monostar S forged wheels of size 11Jx23 were painted black.

These wheels feature an unusual design with dimensionally offset cross-spokes that extend all the way to the outer edge of the wheel flange and are fitted with high-performance tires of size 305/30 R 23. The high-tech forging technology used for the production of these wheels is just as special and sophisticated. It achieves extremely high strength despite the enormous weight savings over a cast wheel of identical size.

The STARTECH suspension module for the standard air suspension allows lowering the ride height of the pickup by 30 millimeters at the push of a button in the cockpit when driving on paved roads.

This makes the all-wheel-drive car even sportier and safer to drive. For comfortable ingress and egress or for operating in terrain, the ride height of the vehicle can be set to the production level.

The rear end of the vehicle is redefined visually not only by the conversion to a pickup bed: the standard bumper is replaced in its entirety with a complete STARTECH rear bumper. The diffuser is made from clear-coated carbon fiber to match the bodywork concept. This aerodynamic-enhancement component accommodates the dual tailpipes of the STARTECH high-performance exhaust system with hallmark STARTECH styling. The exhaust system features active electronic control of the V8’s exhaust note from the cockpit ranging from decidedly sporty to subtle. What’s more: the sophisticated exhaust-gas routing achieves an additional increase in power output by 12 kW / 16 hp.

The interior of the pickup too was elaborately refined the STARTECH way: dashboard, seats and door panels were covered with fine and especially breathable black leather in the STARTECH upholstery shop.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Limelight Collection has been conceived for that select group of people who spend their lives in the public eye and on the world stage. Its name was inspired by the origin of a British invention which became synonymous with fame. The limelight effect was originally discovered in the 1820s by Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, a prototypical British gentleman scientist and inventor of the Victorian era. It was harnessed to revolutionise illumination in the theatres of London’s Covent Garden, highlighting leading actors on the stage, thus leading to the phrase, ‘in the limelight’.

Prepare A unique personalised rear door pannier has been designed to ensure cherished personal possessions fall easily to hand. Ladies’ and Gentleman’s panniers are offered to the customer who can personalise their Phantom Limelight with door panniers that best suit their gender preferences. The Ladies’ and the Gentleman’s panniers can also be personalised to suit what particular personal possessions are required for the occasion.

The fragrance bottles, which ensure the passenger always has the right fragrance available to them whatever the time of day, are handmade in the famous Bresle Valley in North West France ­– home to 75% of the world’s luxury bottles for perfumes and spirits. The bottom left pocket houses a universal vanity pouch made of the finest materials, with space for credit cards, business cards, spectacle storage or makeup, whilst Ladies’ and Gentleman’s Accessory Z-Boxes, constructed from carbon fibre, milled in aluminium and hand covered in the finest leathers, complete the door pannier. Once the passengers have prepared for their engagement by choosing their preferred accessories, they sit back and relax in the new Rolls-Royce seat until they reach their destination.

Relax The optimum position for relaxing in luxury and safety in the rear compartment of a motor car whilst on the move has long been a subject of debate. Whilst some mass-luxury car makers have gone so far in their wish to install an aircraft-style flatbed seat in the rear that they have had to created safety devices to compensate for the resulting body posture, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars engineers and ergonomists have worked closely with the medical profession to establish the optimum seat position that relaxes the body most whilst in motion. The result is the new rear seat to feature first in Phantom Limelight.

The Phantom Limelight seat back reclines the body by a recommended 27° helping to rest the head on the headrest cushion. Lower down the body, a new calf rest raises electrically by 68° to support the calf, whilst a foot rest emerges out of the floor to raise the feet up to 30°, all contributing to the perfect relaxed posture in motion.

Also contributing to the passenger’s relaxation is the choice of two compartment trims as well as several new Bespoke features. The Light contrast scheme features Seashell with Navy Blue Contrast Leather and Seashell tone-on-tone stitching, whilst the Dark contrast scheme offers Navy Blue with Seashell Contrast Leather and Navy tone-on-tone stitching. Complex embroidery inspired by a diamond shape, in homage to the legacy of great Rolls-Royce motor cars of the past, has been applied to the central seat flutes, door cards, rear console and for the first time to the Picnic Table backs.

Unique to this Collection and a first for Phantom, is a two-veneer finish that shows off the unique skills of the woodworkers at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Piano Seashell specific to this collection is applied to the door cappings, blending the veneer with the leather schemes. Smoked Chestnut completes the colour scheme, the first time that this veneer has been used in Phantom.

In the cockpit, the freely programmable virtual displays can be extensively individualised, ensuring highly intuitive and ergonomic operation of the vehicle. The SEAT Connect technologies on-board make the 20V20 an integral part of the networked world. Perfect integration and simple operation, largely via voice control, are givens.

The array of drive options is multi-faceted and accommodates powerful TSI drives of up to around 220 kW / 300 PS as well as TDI engines that are as powerful as they are efficient, with up to 176 kW / 240 PS – both, of course, also as plug-in hybrids with the option for electric-only driving. The power is delivered to the wheels via the DSG transmission and electronically controlled all-wheel drive.

Substantial, 20-inch wheels, a long 2791 mm wheelbase, a 1648 mm wide track in the front and 1638 mm in the rear, and low greenhouse with a straight roofline give the 20V20 very taut, dynamic proportions.

“These horizontal lines and the characteristic SEAT blisters on the sides give it very clear forward momentum. They convey the feeling of speed and directional clarity like an arrow.”

Tension is another element used by SEAT designers – the coiled tension of an athlete just prior to the start. The slightly rearward positioning of the greenhouse, giving the sense of a very long bonnet, the perfect proportions of wheels, to metal, to glass, the pointed front end and the negative turn-in at the rear all reinforce this impression.

This is further enhanced by very sculptural treatment of the lines and surfaces.

The wheel arches are powerfully accentuated front and rear and framed by slender, powerfully three-dimensional and structured surfaces. The sculptural impression is heightened considerably by the paintwork developed specifically for the “veinteveinte”. Not only is ultra orange particularly luminescent, it also possesses enormous visual depth.

This impression of a muscular body is created by a systematic process of detailing.

A radius, such as on the outer side of the door, is never constant. Instead, it increases in one direction, while tightening in the other. Like a muscle. On the other hand, some of the edges, such as those on the characteristic SEAT blisters along the sides, are sharper than ever. The radius here measures an unbelievably tight 1.1 millimetres. Moreover, each edge is highlighted with a negative turn. This kind of high-precision design is a huge challenge when it comes to bodyshell manufacturing – but also a major SEAT competence as evidenced today in the current SEAT Leon.

The front end of the 20V20 features the X-shape as a fundamental design element.

The Vshape of the bonnet and the grille stands for dynamism and forward momentum. The front bumper, with its inverted V, stands for stability and robustness, for a firm stance on the road. The showcar’s full-LED headlamps also convey distinctive character. Their focus appears distant; their expression determined and powerful.

The rear-end design also picks up the X reference. The lines are a little subtler, as expressed by the deep draw of the tailgate and the rear bumper. The rear lights possess the characteristic triangular form used in a number of the 20V20’s design details.

“We love the triangle at SEAT Design,” says Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. “It isn’t unstable like a circle or immobile like a rectangle. The triangle has direction; it is always dynamic.”

Besides proportions, the most important aspects for SEAT’s chief designer are always the clarity and logic of the lines. Every single line on the 20V20 has a clear relationship with each one of the others. There is not one line too many or superfluous. The balance between richness of form and clarity of logic is quite simply right.

The Interior – generous, precise, premium The combination of sporty performance, relaxed refinement and precision quality expressed by the exterior design is also evident in the interior of the SEAT 20V20 showcar. With its clear structure and determined driver focus, its form is derived from the design language of the current Leon family, with a consistently foward-looking interpretation. “A generous, yet safe feeling of space, innovative use of premium materials and, of course, the very latest in information and communication technology make the SEAT 20V20 an oasis of wellbeing on wheels,” says SEAT designer-in-chief Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.

With its high shoulder line, the 20V20 offers a pleasant feeling of solidity and safety that is especially appreciated by SUV drivers, while an enveloping line running around the whole interior creates a feeling of spaciousness. SEAT designers refer to this cohesive impression of space as the loft effect.

In the interior, too, tight radii and flowing lines display the level of precision characteristic of a SEAT. The dominant materials leather, aluminium, glass and high-gloss plastic are of exceptionally high quality and crafted with enormous attention to detail. Everything feels solid and safe – yet, at the same time, airy and lightweight.

Natural leather in saddle brown from Italian specialists Poltrona Frau endows the interior with a look that is both high class and robust. Orange stitching provides a bold contrast and brings the luminescent exterior colour of the “veinte-veinte” into the interior.

The leather on the door panels and around the sills has been processed using an innovative technique, creating a distinctly three-dimensional structure. Finely distributed triangles give the surface a surprising vitality.

The Technology – looking into the future The proverbial key to driving pleasure in the 20V20 is the SEAT Personal Drive Device, a beautiful piece of tactile design in the shape of a large coin.

Outside the vehicle, this Personal Device functions as a mobile navigation system, as well as a remote control for functions such as stationary heating or cooling and for managing the charging process on a plug-in hybrid version. When in the vehicle, the SEAT Personal Drive Device is mounted on the centre console using magnets and serves as an operating element for the SEAT Drive Profile individualisation functions. “Future calls for excellence in connectivity,” says Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT Executive Vice President for Research and Development. “We focus our efforts to continually innovate in this field.”

The whole cockpit of the 20V20 looks like a continuous, high-gloss black panel. Set into it are three TFT screens, the largest of which measures 12.3 inches and serves as the Virtual Cockpit delivering the main driver information, while the navigation, entertainment and connectivity functions are shared between the other screens.

The content and presentation can be individualised via SEAT Drive Profile. Mobile phones connect with the system via Bluetooth and can be operated using a touchscreen in the cockpit. It can be charged simply by laying it in the Charge Box located in the centre console. Another touchscreen enables its use from the rear seats.

From the outside, the SEAT 20V20 looks like a four-door sport coupé with a robust character, big 765 mm diameter wheels and heightened 228 mm ground clearance.

On the inside and in the boot, however, it comes over as surprisingly spacious, with a compelling degree of utility and more than 600 litres of luggage space.

This starts with plenty of room, especially for rear-seat passengers – thanks to the long wheelbase and clever packaging. The variable layout of the rear seat bench means that the “veinte-veinte” can be used as either a four or a five-seater. Beneath the tailgate, with its very low loading edge of 796mm, is an amply proportioned boot. Two luggage trolleys are perfectly integrated into its floor, as well as the Personal Mover. An electric personal urban vehicle comprising a long board with an electric motor that provides a fast and sporty means for the driver to cover the last few metres from parking space to home or office - a perfect match for such a car.
