Editor’s Letter I am honored to be the new Editor-in-Chief of VIVA GLAM Magazine and am excited to continue bringing you interesting, beautiful, and fun content. I hope to contribute to the quality and enhance the already wonderful features and mission of the magazine. As you have probably noticed, this is the first ever Special Edition of VIVA GLAM Magazine! Our founder, Katarina Van Derham first envisioned this Special Edition issue last year. We have worked hard to bring her vision to life, and we have enjoyed every minute of it! The idea was to create an issue that was tropical and sexy, to collaborate with some of the best stylists and photographers, and to feature some of the sexiest models in the world. We wanted the larger format mostly for fun, but certainly for something different and eye-catching. It is well known that a person’s inner beauty and character will influence the way you see their outer beauty. While some try to pit one against the other, we don’t believe in “inner vs. outer beauty”, but that a woman can have both - and a VIVA GLAM woman does have both. All of the women featured on these pages are smart, sweet, and compassionate people. They are professionals, whether it be modeling or in a different field, and they all have philanthropic souls, contributing time or money to their local or global communities. It has truly been a pleasure getting to know and working with every single one of them! Everyone who contributes to creating beautiful imagery for VIVA GLAM is a crucial part of it, and it is important those individuals know how grateful we are. While we are sure to include credits in every issue, we wanted to take advantage of this Special Edition and do something more. So, we have given each of our photographers, makeup artists, and hair stylists Contributors Pages of their own. You will find these dedications throughout this issue, and hear from them yourself. So, with top models and artists from Panama, Canada, Slovakia, Latvia, Czech Republic, America, Mexico, Israel, Cuba, Australia, and Peru, we have managed to do just what we set out to. Makeup – Jade Marie
Jade Marie has been doing makeup for almost a decade now. She began as a self-taught artist and has taken many courses along the way. Now, Jade teaches her own seminars and writes product reviews, does video tutorials, and gives beauty advice. She is a favorite of industry insiders, has an impressive instagram following, and runs the beauty blog, Kissable Complexions.
Makeup & Hair – Katarina Van Derham
Katarina graduated from The Academy of Makeup and Fashion, here in California, and has been working in Hollywood for over a decade. Having spent about half of her life in Europe, and the other half in the U.S., she has a very unique style. Her background in modeling gives her the helpful perspective of what it is like to be one the other side of the brushes too. These attributes are only a portion of why her makeup and hair work appeals to such a broad, international base of clients.
Hair – Angelica Curiel
Angelica came with us to Kona, Hawaii for the 4 day, 5 model shoot assignment. She is a hair expert in everything from cutting and color to extensions and styling. Angelica brought her talents to the many sets in Kona and became a part of the outstanding imagery created there.

Deja might as well be considered our staff photographer, with how often we utilize his talents. He consistently produces timeless original content for us and is responsible for a good portion of the beautiful shots created on the regular for VIVA GLAM. In this issue, he shot VIVA GLAM Supermodels in Mexico, Miami, FL., and all over Southern, California

Yaniv has an extensive career, having begun almost 2 decades ago, and spanning over several countries. His worldwide success is certainly attributed to his dedication, passion, and ingenuity, which he brings to every project.

Makeup artist and hair stylist Jenny is what you might consider a ‘newbie’ in the industry. She is starting out strong though, having worked with many celebrities; for Vogue magazine (Spain); VIVA GLAM Magazine; and now securing a position as the Beauty Editor for Dakini Magazine!

Katarina’s Exotic Summer Look Being a glamorous vegan, I’m always in search of beauty products that are not tested on animals and use no animal by-products. I do believe that using products free of cruelty, makes you more beautiful!
Here are some of my vegan beauty favs and tips on how to achieve that exotic summer look First, you will want to develop a color base for your skin. I use Svelta Skin Perfecting Self-Tanner. Apply the tanner twice a day for three days to build color before your vacation or beach day. This lotion applies easily and evenly, leaving no streaks and no orange color. The smell is wonderful too – and I have not found another self-tanner I can say that about! Bonus, It comes with a large foam mitt that makes application much quicker and keeps the palms of your hands from staining. For shimmery, flawless arms and legs, be sure to get your Gleam on the Go by Melanie Mills. Before hitting the town in that short skirt, apply moderately for that extra healthy glow and additional tint of color. For an exotic eye, you can’t go wrong with bronze eye shadows. No matter your skin tone, bronze-y colors turn anyone’s eyes in to those of a sultry goddess. Use NARS eye shadow duo in Surabay. NARS has great, lasting pigments and a little goes a long ways. Angelica not only applies her talent in the salon (Guiseppe Franco in Beverly Hills), but also on celebrities, for events, television/ film, and photo shoots.
How To Obtain that Beachy Hair Look
Let the hair have its own natural style. If it curls, go with a curl. If it is wavy or straight, let it be that. If you know the hair is going to frizz later on, you won’t want to smooth it out too much, or it will end up looking half done.
Beach Hair Tip
Because your hair is trying to collect moisture, the cuticle keeps opening up. So, I recommend anything that helps hair keep that moisture in. When you take a shower the night before, it is a good idea to use a quality moisture mask. Wash your hair and leave the mask on for 10 minutes. As for product, I have created a line of Paraben-Free, Sulfate-Free, Synthetic-Dye-Free, products that help keep hair growing healthy, shiny, and damage-free. Curiel is made with mostly organic, natural ingredients. I know I may be biased, but these are by far my favorite hair products.

Last year, VIVA GLAM had our first supermodel search, and Anna Katharina stood out of the crowd. From the moment we met her, we knew she had something special. Anna has a proud, firm grasp on her nerd card. She is a perfectionist, student working on her Masters, and a big time book lover. The only competition that books have in her life is with animals. Anna absolutely loves animals, and will even visit animal shelters and pet stores just to cuddle with them.

The Sun Shines Brightly in This
Tropical Paradise If you were to imagine a place where the sun shines daily, colorful tropical birds fly overhead, and vastly different landscapes are all represented on one exotic island, you would be describing The Big
Island of Hawaii.
T
he Big Island is the largest island located at the southeasternmost end of a chain in the North Pacific Ocean called Hawaii. With over 4,028 square miles, it is larger than all of the other islands in this archipelago combined. It is also the largest island in the United States. Hawaii features Mauna Kea, the world’s tallest mountain that is even taller than Mount Everest. With diverse cultures and geography, the Big Island of Hawaii has been an ideal destination for tourism since the 1950’s.

The VIVA GLAM dream team traveled to Kona, Hawaii for a glamorous photo shoot that took us throughout this beautiful island over the course of a week. The dream team for this assignment consisted of VIVA GLAM founder, Katarina Van Derham; photographer Sarah Orbanic; hairstylist Angelica Curiel; makeup artist Jade Marie; VIVA GLAM supermodels Kimberly Cozzens, Anna Katharina, Jesse Golden, Greice Santos, and Alanna Kolette; Allure Plus travel specialist, Donna Wong; and myself. This was the first time we had embarked on an all girl’s photo shoot, and there was clearly excitement in the air! We were met at the airport by The Four Seasons Hotel representatives and were whisked away to the resort; only a

The VIVA GLAM dream team traveled to Kona, Hawaii for a glamorous photo shoot that took us throughout this beautiful island over the course of a week.
short, five-minute trip. The lush, tropical foliage, geese, wild goats and other wildlife that we saw along the way amazed us. Upon arrival, the staff at The Four Seasons greeted us warmly with leis, refreshing Mai Tais, and cool towels. Then, we were driven to our luxurious accommodations on site. The first thing you notice while on the premises is how friendly and helpful everyone is. In fact, they know you by name. And, as many of us are either vegetarian or vegan, they made certain to have several, tasty plant-based options available, such as meatless meatballs, soy chicken patties, and my favorite, vegan Chinese orange chicken! Our call time the next day was 4 am. After the models had gone through hair and makeup, we embarked on our journey with a caravan at 5:45 am. In the dark, we drove to Keiki Pond, a local cove known for its pristine white sand beaches and calm water. We arrived as the sun was coming
up. Colors of purple, orange, blue, and yellow streaked across the sky as we walked towards the water’s edge. Small fish darted in every direction as the models stepped into the cove’s water. The environment, colors provided by the sunrise, and flirty swimwear by Wildfox Couture, gave us incredible shots that made the early call time well worth it! Our next stop was Beach 69 where we walked 30 minutes over black lava rock to our location. We shot our models in brightly colored swimwear against black lava for amazing dramatic looks! Photographer, Sarah, and VIVA GLAM founder, Katarina, were truly inspired by the location and had endless ideas on what to create! The last location for our first day was on the beach at sunset. We were lucky enough to see several sea turtles come on shore and bask in the last rays of sunlight. Since it is illegal to touch them, we settled for just being in the company of such majestic animals. On our second day, we were surprised with a free day. This was so exciting for our models, and they decided to spend the day exploring The Four Seasons Hotel and Resort. King’s Pond was a favorite for many of us. There, you can swim with over 3,000 tropical fish in a 15’ pool! We were given the opportunity to feed an eagle ray, puffer fish, and flounder! And there was even a “fish circus” where fish perform tricks such as swimming through hoops and playing with toys. This was truly a treat! In addition to the main fish pool, there are several touch tanks where we learned about pencil urchins, hermit crabs, starfish and other marine sea life. Dinner was a lovely meal at ‘ULU Ocean Grill. We dined on chilled Heirloom tomato gazpacho with avocado, macadamia nuts, and Big Island summer fruit, Waimea farmer’s market local baby greens, green papaya salad, and a vegetarian stir fried noodle that included baby bok choy, broccolini, and locally harvested vegetables. Also included in this feast were Kiawe smoked potatoes, grilled

asparagus, mushroom fried rice, Kekela Farms fresh spinach, Swiss chard, and locally harvested sweet corn with citrus cream and crispy quinoa. Our fun day off and healthy vegetarian food prepared us for our next day of work, which we were all eager to create! Our third day started at 5 am when we were on our way to explore the north side of the island! We began by visiting the Mauna Kea Hotel, known for having one of the top ten beaches in the world. With powder white sand and swaying palm trees, this beach is everything you probably imagine when you think of Hawaii. On our way back to the hotel, we saw a rainbow and decided to stop by the side of the road to shoot. We enjoy finding inspiration in random locations and choosing to shoot spontaneously. So it was no surprise or disappointment to our adventurous models when we later stopped again to shoot in the lush jungle. Thank goodness too, because this provided the perfect backdrop for our models Kimberly and Anna! Our last day, was our scheduled free day and were able to experience the world famous Four Seasons Spa. We each received deep tissue massages that were so relaxing, I still dream about them. The Four Seasons was kind enough to give us a private swim and fish feeding in King’s Pond! There, we were introduced to a puffer fish named Meatball and a flounder named Pancake. They each performed impressive tricks and came up to greet us warmly. Just another moment we were reminded that all living creatures deserve kindness and respect. That evening, we reminisced about our incredible time together. It was an all girl shoot without drama of any kind. Why? We believe in listening to and supporting each other. VG: How did you start your career as a professional model? I began in a very small town in Newfoundland at the age of twelve. I was doing mostly catalog work. My Mother knew that I want to be a designer and model; that I wanted to get out into the world and do things; I wanted to grow. I think she could see my wings sprouting. (laugh) I was 14 when my Mom & Dad separated. I remember my mother packing up the car with me, my brothers, and our 3 dogs and making the move to give us a better life. We drove for days from Newfoundland to Toronto. I knew then that I was going to have to
go hard for my dreams! NEXT Agency in Toronto signed me right away. Since then, I have traveled the world, and have signed with two other major agencies; first in New York and now in Los Angeles. I am really grateful to my mom for making that major move for us. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without her. VG: You are on a reality TV show, but are also a professional model and actress, with a long list of campaigns and making a good living at it. Already having such a full and busy life, why did you agree to do a reality show? Well, this particular show is about women who are dating prominent athletes. Women who date these men are typically portrayed in a negative light; like the expectation that we are shallow and golddiggers, living off our man. I don’t do that and, I am not like that. So I am taking the opportunity to try and let people see who I really am. I have modeled my whole life and am a businesswoman. I have my own money, my own life, and am in a loving and supportive relationship with someone who happens to be an athlete. At the end of the day, I just hope that gets to come through. VG: You said you are a businesswoman; other than modeling and acting, in what ways are you a businesswoman? I am taking my experience and all that I have learned and launching a swimwear line that I believe women will love. I have a serious passion for fashion and have modeled swimwear and lingerie for many years. Since the very beginning, it has been a dream to have my own swimwear line. Continuing to work with designers and major labels has only encouraged that fantasy. And with my background, it is a natural fit for me – no pun intended. (laugh) It has been a lot of hard work and quit a learning process. I am learning the culture, the ins and outs of the industry, and functionality of the business. VG: Where do you think this “passion for fashion” came from? My Mom. She is what I am most proud of in this world, and she not only nurtured my aspirations from the time I was very young, but she is a constant inspiration to me. She is a seamstress too, and I used to make my own school clothes growing up. I grew up sewing with my mom, and I cherish those memories. In fact, my Swimwear Line is called Nia Lynn; a combination of the names of the women in my family; my niece, my mother, and myself. Before Sarah was a photographer, she had a successful career as a fitness model. Now, this wellknown fashion, fitness, and beauty photographer, Sarah Orbanic, shoots all over the world. We were fortunate enough to get this famed photographer on our team for VIVA GLAM’S Special Edition.

I love to travel and shoot on location, but this is an especially amazing trip. Not only is it a beautiful location, but I also get to shoot every single day, and we are an all female team. Each location on this assignment has had something magical about it. We have had clear water with white sands, an amazing swing that goes out into the ocean, turquoise coves, and some of the top beaches in the world. The possibilities for great work in Hawaii are endless.
The Hardest Part
Shooting under water was tough. I had a vision of what I wanted to get, but it didn’t work out that way. The gear wasn’t working the way I wanted it to and I had to literally use my entire arm to push the button on the camera! (laughs)

has had a love for photography his entire life, but because he is blind in one eye, he didn’t believe he could ever make it as a photographer. After much encouragement, he finally accepted a test shoot opportunity. The client loved his work so much, that they signed him immediately for his first professional assignment. He has been a professional photographer for the last seven years. Deja wants others to ‘shoot’ for their dreams too. So we asked him for some advice - from his side of the lens.
Deja’s Advice For Models Entering the Industry
Let Your Personality Shine and be a joy to work with. Your personal life should be left at the door. Having a positive, happy disposition and professional work ethic is crucial in order to succeed; and you will benefit from your clients wanting to work with you again. In the modeling industry, it doesn’t take long for word of mouth to make or break you.
Number One Pro Tip: Deja’s Advice for Amateur Photographers
Pay close attention to your subject, but never forget to pause for a moment and check the background and edges of your frame. I have focused so much on a specific subject that I didn’t pay any attention to the background. This often results in having colorful trash distracting the viewer or branches and poles growing out of model’s heads. If there are distracting elements, either remove them or change your angle. Make sure nothing is creeping in from the edges of your frame and pulling the attention away from your subject.
The “mistake” I see most often is models taking tons of selfies and being on their phone; posting to IG or texting their boyfriends - it is very unprofessional. Don’t waste the photographer’s time. They are there to shoot you and get great pictures. So if you are taking pictures on your phone, it is insulting to our talent and time. The same goes for hair and makeup or styling. If professionals are spending their time and creative energy to make you look good, don’t treat them as a side note and make them wait on you.
Number One Pro Tip:
In the age of digital photography, taking images is free, so don’t be shy to use up that memory card. One important thing I learned during my early days is that it’s better to have too many photos than not enough.

We were pleased with her work and her positive and grateful attitude is only overshadowed by her artistic and enthusiastic nature. “The biggest challenge I have faced as a makeup artist is staying true to myself. I mean that in the sense of where my makeup journey has taken me. I came into the industry with the goal of just working to make women feel beautiful. But, I am human and working with celebrities and worldwide publications, there have been times when I have gotten caught up in the social media craze and the popularity contest. It’s stressful, but I have started becoming aware of when I start doing that - thanks to the people nearest me - and get back to the joyful place of why I am doing makeup.”

A huge “Don’t”, or a pet peeve of mine, is foundation matching. I know my LA girls love tanning, so instead of matching their foundation to their face, I match to their neck or even their shoulders. One of my mentors taught me this by saying, “We don’t want a floating head” [laugh] Remembering that has helped me a lot.

Yaniv’s Shiny Hair Strategy
If you want your hair to be shiny and fabulous, two days before your big night, mix one egg yolk with two spoons of olive oil and one tablespoon of honey. Wear it for at least two hours and afterwards, wash your hair twice with a little bit of conditioner and then finish by rinsing with cold water. It sounds like a lot of work, but your hair deserves it.

A look at 26-year-old Canadian student Marissa Ibanescu’s Instagram [@Marishika__] may show a side of her that has mastered the art of the perfect selfie, but we got to know a different side of her. We took Marissa to Malibu, California to do her photo shoot. She was sweet, friendly, and surprisingly, even shy. We were impressed with her work ethic and eagerness to be a part of the creative process. In Alberta, she’s currently studying for a career in real estate. When she isn’t hitting the books, Marissa delves into her non-academic interests, like going to museums, spending time with her nephews, and traveling. Marissa’s secret to keeping her smashing figure? She practices yoga religiously. And, “working hard in the gym,” she explains.
She’s currently featured in the 2016 Kilt Girl Calendar, so hard work is certainly paying off for this sweetheart.

Sailing the Waves of Life with
Trenton Carroll Written by Gwendalyn Augustine
A Tuesday afternoon with perfect weather and I was headed to Marina Del Rey (CA.) to meet with Trenton Carroll, a prominent luxury sailboat & yacht businessman. Trenton is a distinguished man with a very good-looking appearance that clearly reflects his healthy, happy lifestyle. He’s a silver fox if you will. He has spent his whole life studying the dynamics of people. The enlightenment he has attained from this shows through in a very ‘as a matter of factly’ sort of wisdom, and you immediately feel his peacefulness and exhilaration for life. Once I arrived, the two of us boarded a dingy for a ride across the Marina. I swear the air is never ‘fresher’ than when out on the water. As we navigated through the some 6,500 boats docked at the Marina that day, I was given a small glimpse into the beautiful, dynamic lifestyle of sailing. Trenton wasn’t always living such a sweet and breezy life though. Most of his life, it was the corporate world he navigated. A fastidious and tenacious businessman, Trenton worked hard in his earlier years and became very experienced in all facets of sales, business development, marketing, training, and operations management … even having built a few companies from the ground up. It was during these decades he had done very well for himself. So, what could have brought him from the corporate world into this outdoors, water
lifestyle? Well, there was actually a pivotal moment and a life changing decision. “It was 9-11.” He explains. “That morning, I was ironing my shirts when the news came on behind me. I turned to look and saw the first tower ablaze. Then I saw the second plane fly into the other tower.” He shakes his head recalling the devastation. “I put the iron down and said ‘I quit.’” “I had already made enough money that I could live – if I didn’t do anything crazy. That moment showed me how short life really is, and I couldn’t help but reflect on what I wanted out of it.” Trenton had always had a passion for everything outdoors; rock climbing, paddle boarding, motorcycle racing, sail boats - really anything outdoors oriented. To him it is “an elixir of life” and “keeps you dialed in.” Already having a spot in his heart for sailing, it was a pretty easy transition for Trenton when he became involved with Beneteau & Jeanneau, luxury yacht and sailboat companies. “When I was in corporate, it was very cut throat. The lifestyle that I ended up migrating to, in the boating industry, has given me more friends than I’ve ever had in my life. The first thing that really captured my attention was having people call me up just to catch up and see how I was doing, with no motive, just genuine interest.”
Sharing this glimpse into the world of sailing that Trenton was able to bestow is better told through his words. Trenton Carroll: This lifestyle is stress-free. In many cases, when you are out on the water, nothing else exists. I love being out sailing with friends for a couple of hours, watching the sunset and opening up a bottle of wine and relaxing. Then you turn the boat around and see the moon in the sky as you head back in, and you just feel complete bliss - because you’ve had an incredible day with people you care about and shared an experience that will resonate with you all. You know, and it’s not about the boat. Everybody seems to think it’s about the boat. It amazes me when people at shows just want to talk about the boat. (laughs) All I want to talk about is the lifestyle. The boat just happens to be the caveat that takes you into the arena of experience. Most certainly my favorite part of being this blessed, is giving back. Once I got into the lifestyle, I began to do a lot of charity. 1 or 2 times a month I’ll take out groups of recovering cancer patients, children from orphanages, and now veterans from The Challenge Foundation. I get them together, buy food and drink, and take them out sailing for the day. Many of them have never been on a boat in their lives; it has only been something they have seen on television or in magazines. After sailing across the ocean, circling dolphins, or seeing whales, they begin to glow with ecstasy, like little kids at Christmas. It’s a feeling like nothing you can describe. With all of the smiles that I’ve seen, I truly feel that the market has given me more than I’ve given it.
Trenton most certainly lights up when he gets caught up talking about the benefits of this lifestyle – probably much like the of all those faces he appreciates so much. One of my favorite stories he shared was about having taken out a group of cancer survivors. Just as they had started to lighten their shoulders and begin to smile, he jokingly exclaimed “Que the whales!” as he threw his arm dramatically in the air. About 3 minutes later, to their surprise, and even more so to his own, whales breached the surface not too far out in front of them. Before heading back, I had to ask, how does one get their business to integrate so seamlessly with this leisurely lifestyle? “You have to make time for everything. You simply make time for the things you want to do. Too many times people will shuffle off and say ‘I don’t have time for […].’ And these are nothing but deleted statements to their own mind. They are giving themselves a crutch and permission to fail, permission to cheat themselves. For That Glowing Beach Beauty Look To get that glowing look I use a lot of products that are cream based. So, the first product that I used is Benefit “Watts Up.” It is a pearl cream highlighter. You want to put it on your cheekbones, down the center of your nose, on your Cupid’s bow, and on your chin. It gives that very Victoria’s Secret looking glow. To define the cheekbones, I use Charlotte Tilbury’s bronze stick to add more bronze color to the skin. Then, I used a lip tint by Laura Mercier. This gives a great natural pink tint to the lips, enhancing your natural color.
For a Light Beach Beauty Look Use a tinted moisturizer because this will give you a more
natural look instead of coverage. You want it to look like skin, but just a bit more dewy.
Jade’ s Favorite Beauty Look Contouring is so big right now. I feel like that is a huge trend. I’m really into strobing and highlighting. Strobing is using cream highlighter all over the face to give that really youthful look. I also pop on powder highlight over it to give that very glowing look. I like to glow like a disco ball!
