WOULD YOU LIKE AN ADVENTURE NOW OR WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE TEA FIRST?

/ 20 /

CHAPTER

You get a brief, make a book. Not just a book. A book with everything about one thing. One thing. One story to tell. One adventure to experience.

All cultures, except one, grow up.

And then you start thinking. A book, about just one thing, one thing that is interesting enough to make a book about. And not just a book, a book that is good, a book that people would like to read. Damn, not that easy. And then it pops into your mind. All of a sudden it’s there. You don’t know why, and you don’t know how. But it’s there and it’s all you can think about.

/ 21 /

AND THAT IS WHERE THE ADVENTURE STARTS...

This is a book about my favorite bedtime story of all times. This is a book about adventures. This is a book about life. This is a book about death. This is a book about stories. This is a book about people. This is a book about Peter Pan.

“Peter... I should like to give you a kiss.” [Peter holds his hand out] “Don’t you know what a kiss is?” “I shall know when you give me one.” What is significance? What makes an object significant? What makes an object worthy to talk about?

In return he gives her an acorn. She treasures it and in the end it will even save her life at some point in the story. This is how objects and subjects gain significance. By the value we give to it.

/ 25 /

Isn’t everything significant? Peter doesn’t know what a kiss is, he expects it to be an object, not an act. This is why Wendy gives him a thimble. He treasures it although it is just a thimble.

What makes Peter Pan significant? What makes a story written over a hundred years ago special? What story is there to tell? The story of Peter Pan is so up-todate that nowadays people, children as well as grown ups still find it interesting to read the story of Peter Pan, to watch it being performed, to make a movie about it. I got infatuated by the story of Peter Pan when I was a little girl, totally in love with the adventures in Neverland. And to be honest I never really quit loving the story. CHAPTER
