Design Brief And Specification

Design Brief

London is a very polluted city with a lot of buildings and little greenery, which has an influence on global warming. For this reason, I made the decision to build an environmentally friendly hotel since there are many tourists that come to this city every day and I want to give them the impression that they are somewhere else.

An eco hotel, also known as a green hotel, is a lodging that is committed to environmental sustainability and has undertaken significant structural environmental changes to lessen its impact on the environment. This project will not only affect its site but also the neighbourhood in which it is located.

In order to draw customers in, I want to give off the impression that each guest has their own private space where they may rest.

SPECIFICATION

• Main style must be modern and contemporary

• The main theme of the overall site must be natural and organic

• Atmosphere must be light and airy

• There must be a café, gift shop and various communal spaces

• Cycle parking

• Car parking

• Accessible to everyoneincluding disabilities

• There must be indoor seating spaces

• Free Wi-Fi

• Security

• Staff rooms

• Eco-friendly

• reducing energy and water consumption

• Non-smoking environment.

SIMPLE AND COMPLEX

In order to effectively focus on solutions that best solve the particular problem you're addressing for, you must achieve simplicity in your design. This helps you stay tuned into your user's demands, gives them the impression that you are listening to them, and keeps you in tune with their wants.

The use of straightforward design components without embellishment or decoration is a hallmark of minimalist architecture, often known as "minimalism."

Minimalists contend that the actual "essence of architecture" may be discovered by reducing a design's form and substance to their absolute minimum.

Why is minimalism important in architecture?

Benefits of minimalism in architectural design might include: Fewer things lead to calm, relaxed minds that flourish in the breathing space.

Economical: Planning a place with fewer furnishings and simpler materials without decoration may impact the budget and be more cost-effective.

Complexity can be utilised to increase the perceived worth of a solution, show off the brilliance of the designer, validate the ability of a highly capable designer, cover the lack of creativity of a less capable designer, or serve as a convenient fall guy in the event that a future implementation fails. The method of creating corporate budgets is another ally of complexity. Complex designs may necessitate a greater workforce and resources, facilitating the expansion of empires. Complex solutions are more challenging to create, maintain, and evolve, necessitating the involvement of more individuals in all three processes.

ARCHITECTS

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

In the same way that Classical and Gothic architecture reflected their respective eras, Mies aimed to develop his own distinctive architectural style. With its extraordinary purity and simplicity, the style he developed made a statement. His most sophisticated structures utilised contemporary materials to define interior areas, such as industrial steel and plate glass. A basic framework of structural order balanced against the implicit freedom of an unrestricted, unrestricted open space was the architecture he aimed for. He referred to his structures as "skin and bones" structures. Although he was constantly focused on capturing the essence of the modern age, he sought an objective approach that would direct the creative process of architectural design. He is often associated with his fondness for the aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details".

Antoni Gaudí

Gaud's lifelong interests in architecture, environment, and religion have had an impact on his creative output. He gave careful thought to every aspect of his projects and included carpentry, stained glass, ceramics, and wrought ironwork forging into his architecture. Additionally, he developed fresh methods for handling materials, such as trencads, which made use of leftover ceramic pieces.

Gaud joined the Modernista movement, which peaked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, under the influence of neo-Gothic art and Oriental methods. His art went beyond the conventions of conventional Modernisme, resulting in an organic aesthetic influenced by organic shapes. Gaud seldom created precise designs for his creations; instead, he preferred to build three-dimensional scale models of them and add features as he had ideas for them.

The work of Gaud is admired and studied by architects all around the world. The Sagrada Familia, his unfinished masterwork, is the most popular tourist attraction in Spain.Seven of his creations were designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites between 1984 and 2005.

Throughout his life, Gaud's Roman Catholic faith grew stronger, and many of his works contain religious imagery. He was given the moniker "God's Architect" as a result, and there were requests for his beatification.

Location Review

The location is close to Excel in Silver Town. The remarkable 100,000m2 of adaptable event space at London ExCeL, which costs £500 million, includes the International Convention Centre of London (ICC London ExCeL). In West Silvertown, near the newly constructed Britannia village in Newham, London, England, on the south side of the Royal Victoria Dock, between the Thames Barrier and the ExCeL London exhibition centre, stands the abandoned Millennium Mills, a former flour mill from the turn of the 20th century. As part of the £3.5 billion Silvertown project, The Mills is now getting a significant refurbishment.

In 1933, Millennium Mills was completely rebuilt as a 10-story concrete art deco structure.

During the Second World War, bombing severely damaged several port mills around the nation since about 75% of the nation's capacity was concentrated there, making ports prime targets for aerial strikes. Both Rank's Premier Mills and Spillers' Millennium Mills in London suffered significant damage.

MILLENIUM MILLS

Islamic architecture refers to the building designs linked with Islam. From the beginning of Islam's history until the present, it includes both secular and religious forms. From western Africa and Europe to eastern Asia, the Islamic civilization traditionally covered a large geographic region. All of these regions' Islamic architectural styles have some things in common, but over time, each region developed its own architectural style based on the local resources and methods, local dynasties and patrons, various regional centres of artistic production, and occasionally different religious affiliations.

Roman, Byzantine, Iranian, and Mesopotamian architecture, as well as all other cultures whose territories the Early Muslim conquests captured in the seventh and eighth centuries, had an effect on early Islamic architecture.

Research from the architecture in London

Patterns and structures that I find fascinating in the United Kingdom. You can notice throughout the city how each building is unique in its own way. The architecture in this city its quite developed and has its unique patters that I will apply through out the project.

Maidla Nature Villa KÄBI

For b210, this meant a returning client, always proof of an inspiring partnership in the past, but also of a chance to explore new paths. KBI, the second addition to the forest-focused resort in Maidla, Estonia, continues the founders' mission to commission distinctive architecture celebrating local nature and heritage. KBI was founded with the idea of giving tourists a calm, serene retreat from the city's hectic pace, a location so in tune with nature that it would inspire people to think about how fragile the stillnatural, wild, and free world around us is.

Model 1

A movement line and several pieces were used to create the model. I made an effort to demonstrate this concept in many sections and stages of development.

Tree Houses | Peter Pichler Architecture

A sustainable tree home proposal has been developed by the Milan-based Peter Pichler Architecture company for the Dolomite woodland in Italy.

A new experience to live in the woods with a maximum connection to nature should be created by the tree homes, which are an addition to an existing hotel. The geometry, which is built of local wood and has a sharp, high roof, is influenced by the nearby fir and larch trees.

The apartments are between 35 and 45 m2 in size and have two floors. A small reading or lounge space is located on the lower floor, while a bedroom area with a little bathroom is located on the upper level. A little internal stair connects the two levels.

The project is intended to be a tourist "slow down" approach where nature and the integration of architecture into it take centre stage.Future tourism, in our opinion, will be built on the link between people and the environment. Nothing more is necessary; in fact, well-integrated, environmentally friendly design may further strengthen this bond.

Mini Pod | Hristina Hristova

Mini pods were created as a low-cost choice for starting or growing a hospitality business. They are designed to be positioned in nature, either in groups or as standalone hotel rooms. The panoramic window that lets guests see the ever-changing surroundings is the focal point of the pod's design.

Only a bed area, a tiny kitchenette and a bathroom remain; everything else has been stripped down to the absolute minimum. The pod's unusual form is a result of its asymmetrical pitched roof. A metal platform with legs that may be adjusted in height supports Mini Pods.

They could be moved using a trailer with wheels, saving money on crane-lift costs. KVH wood studs serve as the structural framework for the pods. The tiny hospitality units have a tidy, ventilated facade that is oiled in anthracite grey for a blendfriendly appearance.

The whole interior is covered in birch plywood that has been mostly oiled in grey to highlight the sheets' natural grain. The pod's multipurpose wall has a tiny closet, a kitchenette and a sliding door that opens to a complete bathroom.

The Mini Pods are intended to be sufficient short-stay vacation flats for natural resorts or AirBnB hosts, despite their size of 11m2. Their straightforward, unadorned design lets the surrounding environment take centre stage.
