ell, there are less than 10 days left for the most eagerly awaited, keenly followed and highly anticipated extravaganza to kick start. For all the cricket fanatics out there – No! We are not talking about the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, for god‟s sake! We are referring to Central India‟s Largest Technical Festival – AXIS, to be held in our campus from 21st to 23rd September 2012. With a cornucopia of events, workshops and competitions lined up from the fields of Automation and Robotics, Construction, Design & Safety, Software and Electronics and Management, AXIS promises to sow the seeds of scientific perfection and technical innovation amongst us budding engineers. The atmosphere in the campus stands a testimony to the excitement this festival has generated. The first years, energetic, enthusiastic and on the cusp of being a part of their first technical festival are unrelentingly attending workshops, bunking classes, giving intros (Oops! Was that not supposed to be printed?) and preparing for the events and competitions. The second years, under the „able and astute‟ guidance of the event managers are efficiently juggling between organising the events and „imparting essential training‟ to our freshers for the weekend‟s event. Our beloved Core, which has gone all guns blazing this time for publicising the festival, is finally heaving a sigh of relief, if not celebrating, that they have garnered sufficient bounty through sponsorship. And finally the fourth years, who seem to be lost in nostalgic thoughts, reminiscing the good old days, when they were an active part of this chaos. However, amidst this commotion, there exists a group of unwavering and dedicated individuals, whose only motive is to strive hard so as to bring you the latest news, views and updates about all the hip and happening events in AXIS‟12. All that we ask from you is to do the honours of collecting a copy of this literary masterpiece (Ahem...), enjoy it, and for the umpteenth time..........”Be a part of the Revolution”.

EUREKA

Hazard Mitigation Unplugged Nuclear Explosion! Earthquake! Tsunamis! Disaster reveals itself before us in any incarnation and, obviously, without any prior publicity (nothing as compared to Team AXIS ‟12!). And it is always the concern of the Nation to safeguard its citizen against all such odds. Thinking on such similar tracks, our Govt. envisioned the creation of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), under the chairmanship of Our Honorable Prime Minister. We, here @AXIS ‟12, are presenting before you a MEGA-EXHIBITION & PROSHOW in association with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the response wing of NDMA. Haven‟t you ever wondered how the situations of disaster emergencies are dealt with by the defense forces? And the opportunity to know all that stuff is now arriving at VNIT, in form of exhibitions, that too of International Standards! Different stalls encompassing themes of Basics of Survival, Collapsed Structure Search & Rescue, Flood Water Rescue, Radiological & Nuclear Emergencies, and Medical First Response shall be erected during the festive weekend of AXIS. The other thing of utmost importance in our daily lives is to be aware of what exactly has to be done at instances of disaster. But how on earth can we understand without undergoing through any such disasters? And what about if you are given a chance to witness it LIVE? So here‟s the 5 th battalion Jawans of NDRF to give us a live show of the protocols followed during Earthquake Rescue missions, breaking on through every rubble and obstacle. Also demos will be performed on Chemical Emergency Rescue, High-rise Building Rescue and River Crossing. And thus, here‟s the presentation by the unsung Heroes of our nation, performing stunts with excellence, right before our eyes!

“Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.” -Gilbert Keith Chesterton

There are several children in the country who have never had the right exposure towards education, and it is this very reason that several of our country‟s bright minds remain in the dark. AXIS, in association with the VNIT social awareness club Prayas, the Rotary club of Nagpur and M.A.D (Make a difference) decided to make a difference. This is how Eureka was conceived. Eureka was an event sponsored by the Rotary club, where several children from several orphanages and government schools were given some hands on insight in to the worlds of technology by volunteers and the students of VNIT. As a technical institution, VNIT understands the importance of advancing technology in and believes that no one should be left behind. The children were awed with the wonders of science and technology; to add to their excitement they were also shown several practical experiments. With several kids from uneducated backgrounds, the ideas of myth and magic remained prevalent in them. To conquer such thoughts and to give them a foresight, the event also featured a magic show, where the magician revealed his secrets in the end, and described to the kids that how most magic is illusionary and true forces that govern this world is science. Towards the end, the children were given a chance to speak on their favorite scientific experiment that they learned that day and were encouraged to give a seminar on the same; several gifts and goodies were handed out to the deserving participants. The children went home, with more than just smiles on their faces and sparks in their eyes, they went home with hope. Hope for a better life, for a better future.
