I NUOVI FONDACI

The new ‘fondaci’ Giulia Longhi

Il fondaco era un luogo di sosta e scambio di merci lungo le rotte commerciali tuttavia ha smesso di avere questa funzione e ha perso le sue connotazioni pratiche e la sua importanza con l’avvento dei nuovi mezzi di trasporto e delle moderne tecnologie.

Oggi, il fondaco, può tornare a essere una struttura utile se lo si inserisce in una diversa ottica; ciò che si è modificato nel tempo, infatti, non è tanto la sua connotazione di polo attrattore, quanto le motivazioni che lo portano a essere tale.

Spazialmente si configura come i fondaci storici, nodi che si inseriscono tra i corridoi, ma quello che si aggiorna realmente è il tipo di merce che questi corridoi trasportano e che arrivano al caravanserraglio, che si propone come catalizzatore di idee.

The Fondaco was a place to stop and exchange of goods along trade routes, however, it has ceased to have this function and has lost its practical connotations and significance with the advent of new means of transport and modern technologies.

Today, the Fondaco, may return a useful framework if its situation is viewed from a different perspective; what has changed over time, in fact, is not its connotation of point of convergence, but the reasons that led him to be such.

Spatially it will look like the historical fondaco, nodes that are setted between corridors, but its actual upgrade is the type of goods that these corridors let pass and arrive at the caravanserai, which is proposed as a catalyst for ideas.

I nuovi fondaci

Anche la progettazione architettonica si sta modificando; si svincola dal committente; smette di essere autonoma o di essere dipendente dalle problematiche di tipo sociale. Per di più con l’evoluzione dell’ultimo secolo smette anche di far ricorso a organismi urbani sempre più complessi e non relazionati al loro contesto.

In pratica la progettazione architettonica diviene sempre più di scopo e attraverso l’utilizzo delle conoscenze globali riconosce gli equilibri produttivi e collettivi, riuscendo a confluire nel flusso della società odierna che è sempre più dinamico e turbolento.

Per questi motivi, i nuovi fondaci, sono spazi fisici che con le loro strutture e servizi rispondono a quelle persone–imprenditori sociali, attivisti, creativi, studenti- che cercano attraverso le loro idee di migliorare il mondo.

I nuovi caravanserragli dovranno essere sviluppati come essere edifici connessi al mondo ma anche in modo da rendersi realtà autonome dal punto di vista energetico, alimentare e lavorativo, cercando di sviluppare già dall’interno un nuovo tipo di sviluppo responsabile.

La particolarità di questo spazio è la in-naturale tendenza alla collaborazione che si contrappone alla più normale competizione tra i popoli. Questo è proprio ciò che rende le strutture libere e generative di stimoli per nuovi processi di coesione sociale.

I nuovi fondaci sono entità complesse a servizio della globalizzazione e che servono al contempo da mediatore e legante per la società locale che ospita questi ambienti.

Il fondaco è quindi incubatore di nuove realtà, con spazi fisici che si evolvono nel tempo rispetto alle esigenze lavorative, educative, culturali o di promozione sociale e integrazione che sono necessarie agli utenti ospitati.

The architectural design is changing too; it is released from the client; it ceases to be independent or to be dependent upon social problems. In addition, with the last century evolution, it ceases to have recourse to the, increasingly complex, urban organism which are not related to their environment.

In practice, the architectural design becomes more and more a matter of purposes and by using global knowledge it recognizes the productive and collective balances, succeeding in the merging into the, dynamical and turbulent, flux of modern society.

For these reasons, the new fondacos, are physical spaces that with their facilities and services meet those people -social entrepreneurs, activists, creative, student- which are seeking to improve the world through their ideas.

The new caravanserais has to be developed as buildings connected to the world but also, in order to make themselves autonomous, as self-sufficient realities for what concerns energy, food and work, trying to cultivate from the inside a new kind of responsible development.

The peculiarity of this place is the un-natural tendency toward collaboration as opposed to the more common competition between peoples. This is really what makes these structures free and generative of stimuli for new processes of social cohesion.

The new fondacos are complex entities at the service of globalization that at the same time serve as mediator and binder for the local society that hosts these environments.

The fondaco is therefore an incubator of new realities, with physical spaces that evolve over time according to business, educational, cultural or social promotion and integration needs, which are necessary for hosted users.
