Flotsam and Jetsam LIKE some dubious duo in Celebrity Masterchef, Emma and the Beast served up a veritable smorgasbord of ‘les fruits de mer’ in their aftermath. Beaches along the east coasts of Ireland and the UK were carpeted with all manner of sea creatures – starfish, brittlestars, sea urchins, crabs, lobsters, corals, shellfish, jellyfish, octopus, squid and fish of many types. The rapid decrease in sea temperatures brought about by the ‘Beast from the East’ would have caused many creatures to perish or at least weaken them. Then follow this with the rough seas caused by Storm Emma and the high spring tides saw many creatures that were taking refuge on the seabed churned up and dumped on the shore. Below is a selection of the creatures found on the beach at Bray, Co Wicklow. (All photos Justin Ivory).
