An Taisce accused of jobs sabotage AN TAISCE has come under intense fire for appealing a High Court decision to grant planning permission for a €140m cheese plant at Belview. Waterford senator John Cummins is one of a group of senior politicians who claim the heritage group’s approach to planning is “beyond comprehension”. They say An Taisce, which is funded by taxpayers, has alienated farmers and is “objecting to housing and forestry up and down the country”. In a statement, they say: say: “The Government must now look again at An Taisce being funded by the taxpayer, its consistent opposition of government policy and possibly their special status under the planning acts.” Seantor Cummins (FG) is joined in the protest by Tipperary senator, Garret Ahearn, and four Fine Gael TDs, all former ministers.
