Mystery of the missing cath lab POLITICIANS are calling for more information about the removal of the mobile cath lab from University Hospital Waterford (UHW). The lab was installed to supplement the main lab at UHW, performing diagnostic procedures for heart problems. Work to upgrade the main lab has been stopped becaue of restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 crisis, so there is now no functioning cath lab at UHW. All cardiac procedures are being conducted at UPMC’s Whitfield Hospital where a new cath lab has been installed. It was concern over the parttime operation that led to the installation of the mobile lab. “My understanding is that all cardiac procedures in Waterford are now being carried out in Whitfield, none are being carried out at University Hospital Waterford,” Mr Culinane said.
