Builders begin the slow return to work WORK has resumed on two Waterford housing projects, halted by Covid-19 restrictions. The sites at Knight’s Grange, Lacken, in Waterford city, and Na Fearnóga, at Ballinroad, Dungarvan, are for social housing and have been deemed essential by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government The work will closely observed as a pointer to a wider return of the construction industry. Other social housing work is expected to re-start in the near future. In each case the contractor, employed by the local authority, will undertake the works in accordance with HSE and Government guidelines and recommendations. In addition, Waterford Council is continuing with limited maintenance works on their own properties and also with the return to use of void and vacant properties throughout the city and county. and planning is continuing on the €400m North Quays project which is crucial to the future of Waterford city. In his latest briefing, council chief executive Michael Walsh told councillors: “The developer is working on providing the additional information requested on their planning application and we expect a submission in the next couple of weeks.” The council’s roads department is continuing to operate a scaled-back level of service and is making preparations for a return to a full delivery of services once national policy allows. The concil’s jet patching repair units have been across the county on critical road repairs. They have been operational in the Metropolitan East and Dungarvan South areas and it is intended to continue these operations across the county in coming weeks. The council’s Environment Department is working on clean-ups of illegal dumping.
