Yacking and laughing and gawking to boot, with a swapmeet for those keen to hand over their loot. We came with a carload of things to sell off, and went home with heaps of pennies, nothing to scoff (at). People and cars, we all danced in the rain, now let's get ready for next year to do it all again.

MANDY TURNER Although the weather was ordinary over the ANZAC day long weekend, it turned it on especially for us on Sunday April 23. Quite a few of us came up early and stayed at the Gatehouse (to the asylum) in Ballarat, where every creak in the house was heard! This year, the organisers mixed the air and water cooled cars together, which was a great move to get more people mingling. The air cooled cars are slowly taking over the watercooled though! Some very impressive handmade trophies were given away, and a big congratulations to the organisers for once again putting on a successful day, which saw VW’s coming from far and wide.

PRESIDENT ANDREW ERMEL Keep those old Volkswagens on the road and keep those club permits coming in too!
Welcome to a new format VW club monthly newsletter. We have been having difficulties over the last few months in getting out a full colour edition of the Wagensville news and this new format is being produced in an effort to keep the members informed of the goings on within our club.
UPCOMING CLUB EVENTS
The newsletter will hopefully contain some information on the upcoming club events and short reports on the past events. We also planned to produce at least 4 larger A4 Wagensville magazines during the year at critical times to entertain you with stories and articles from the months past.
MAGAZINE PARTICIPATION
Most importantly we have been struggling to get members to produce interesting articles on regular basis to keep the magazine vibrant and with up to date information. We ask that members think about helping out with articles. Mandy Turner (assistant editor), Michael Cronin (Vice Pres), Chris Scane (Secretary) and I may tap you on the shoulder over the next few weeks to ask if you would write or produce a short article of interest for the upcoming newsletter/ magazines.
VW CALENDAR
It’s been a busy month on the VW calendar and we are about to take off for the VW Nationals in Sydney over the coming weekend. Our last club meeting was held at the Austrian club and we had over 65 members attend which I think was a record number for a general meeting this year! We ran a short, and some said, hard trivia competition during the interval in the meeting and enjoyed a coffee and cakes after the meeting till late.

JUNE GENERAL MEETING
It was Bill Malkoutzis’s 60th Birthday on the night and we were very happy to have him along and sing happy birthday to him to help celebrate his day. Please note the June General Meeting will be at the German Club – 291 Dandenong Rd, Windsor on the 15th June – see upcoming events for details.
JAMBOREE
Jamboree this year was held at the Caribbean Gardens and was a big event as usual, although the rain tried on a few occasions to dampen the enjoyment of the day. There were lots of new VW’s there and the grounds filled very early in the morning with some unusual and new build cars. Thanks to Anthony and Nathan for running a great event again. It’s always so much fun to go there and catch up with friends and enjoy a relaxing VW car show.
BUGIN EASTER 2018
The VW Club Victoria has begun its plans to host the national event, the Bugin, on Easter 2018! Our event has been planned to run with the assistance of the VW Ballarat Club. Over the Easter weekend, events will be held on the Good Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. It will include a welcome event, a cruise to Bendigo for the Easter car show, a car show at a prominent location in the Ballarat district, winery tours, and finally an evening function and trophy presentation with an entertainer to be announced at a fully catered venue. A 5-day tour of Victoria has also been planned after the Bugin, culminating at a coastal destination in Victoria. All in all, it’s planned to be a spectacular week of VW car shows, tours, entertainment and cruising. We are asking for volunteers and anyone interested to contact Michael Cronin (Vice President), who will be doing the coordination of the event.
ANNUAL GENERL MEETING
September is the AGM for the VW club and there will be many positions up for election. We need some new ideas and some new faces to help out with organising and running the club events. Some indications of the positions we may need some good people for are: • President • Vice President • Membership officer • Events coordinator • Treasurer • Secretary Remember that an election is exactly that and ALL positions are up for filling. Many committee members have expressed to me the indication that they would like a change in their duties and some have already decided to nominate for other roles. We have a very strong club now and the continued success of the club relies strongly on the work done by the committee members. Being on the committee requires a good work ethic and attendance at the committee meetings and if not most of the general meeting as well. But if you regularly go to the club meets, then attending an additional committee meeting one extra day a month is not a big ask.
WEBSITE NEWS THE PAYPAL ISSUE IS NOW RESOLVED.
The membership payment system was offline for 2 weeks due to a Paypal policy update we had to work with. My thanks to the wider website support team who resolved it. We apologise for the inconvenience. Renewal email resolved. Some members did not get early warnings that their membership was due to expire. The system has been refreshed and tested and is now working well Our club Constitution and permanent Committee election form are back online under ‘About’
JULIEN LANGLET
Some of the roles on the committee, like that of membership officer and events co-ordinator, are interesting and very rewarding and I now ask that you think about how you can help the club.
FERGUSSON WINERY
We have a great event coming up on Sunday 23 July at Fergusson Winery at 82 Wills Road Yarra Glen. We have bookings available for 40 people. Dinner will be a two course roast meal for $30 per head with children meals $10. All wine and drinks will be at bar prices. Bookings and pre-payment are absolutely essential as the club is subsidising the event for both adults and children. We will cruise through the hills on the day departing from Ringwood, with the details of this event appearing following in this newsletter.
VW SWAP MEET
The all VW parts swap meet has had a date change, and is now on Sunday 30th July at Seaworks, and the German Auto car show is coming up on Sunday 27th August, both big events on the local VW Scene. See the advertisements for these in this edition of the Wagensville News.

VWCV MEMBERSHIPS As of the end of May, we currently have over 700 members. We have a few events coming up shortly that will be subsidised by the club.
T
O KEEP IT FAIR to our financial members, only members listed on the membership will be able to receive these benefits. For example, if you pay for a single membership, this will only cover yourself and any children you may have under this membership. Please keep in mind it is only an extra $20 for each adult member to be added to your membership. It is wrong for members that don’t do the correct thing and pay for their husband, wife or partner to get the same benefits as members that do. If this is an oversight on your behalf and you would love your husband/ wife/ partner to come to events with you, I know we’d love to see them.

10 YEARS AGO MICHAEL CRONIN WAS PRESIDENT, DEAN HOLDEN WAS VP, ANDREW ERMEL WAS SECRETARY AND JOHN FARLOW WAS TREASURER.
Please contact me on 0420 967 948 or memberships@vwclub.com.au and I will be happy to add them onto your membership once payment is received.
Major feature for this Newsletter edition (like this month) was the promotion for Christmas in July at St Andrews Pub on the 22nd of July and the report on the 2007 VWCV Concourse which had 15 categories and was held at Arthur’s Seat on Sunday 27th May. Sad news was posted that the club had lost Dave Evans, our first Club Historian, Past President, Life Member and very active member since 1956. Interestingly a 1972 Type Fastback for sale was $1,750.
Also if you want your child to be included on the membership and you haven’t done so yet, please also let me know their details and age.
If you only attend a couple of subsidised events a year, you will more than get the extra $20 back. Plus through fair and ethical payment, we can continue to afford to subsidise and give back to Volkswagen Club of Victoria members.
GARY COLLIS WAS PRESIDENT, NATHAN LEVERSHA WAS VP, FRAN OLIVER WAS SECRETARY AND PHIL IRWIN WAS TREASURER.
Charmain Green Membership Officer
Major feature for this black and white photocopy edition of the ‘News’ was the busy motorsport program with three events listed in July that year. Following this theme was an interesting piece on a Mark 1 Polo bought by Cameron Stewart for Motorkhanas. Also of note was a fully restored Country Buggy for sale with a reconditioned 1500 cc engine on the market for $7,000.
