ADVICE TO GET YOU STARTED
Teaching Bible Studies
IT’S AS EASY AS A-B-C!
A
GET A BIBLE STUDY
Looking to teach a 1-on-1 Bible study? Here are some goods times to ask if a friend would like to be taught a Bible study: 1) They ask you faith questions 2) They bring up God 3) They request prayer 4) They visit Church 5) The Spirit prompts you
Rather try for a group Bible study? 1. Determine a time and venue (casual, comfortable, and access to food!). 2. Make invitations. 3. Invite people like you would to your birthday party! I know hearing “Hey, I’m having a bunch of friends over for a Bible study and cake!” would work on me.
B
PREPARATION
1) Know what you’re teaching. 2) PRAY!!! Pray, not just for the person you’re going to teach, but pray that you would have a spiritually sensitive mind as well. If you want to help someone, you can’t do it with a carnal mind! 3) Enlist back-up. If you’re new, find someone with experience. If you’re experienced, invite someone who hasn’t ever taught before to see how easy it is! 4) Protect the environment. No, I’m not talking about recycling. Make sure that you pick a place for your Bible study that will not be prone to constant noisy distractions and disruptions. 5) Follow-up on commitments. A phone call and a few texts lets people know you care and that you’re taking this seriously.
C
TEACH
1) Don’t be in a hurry, but don’t waste others’ time. 2) Be confident but not arrogant. Admit when you don’t know an answer. 3) Build relationships! Don’t rely on whatever study you’re using as a crutch… really talk! 4) Avoid arguing! Steer the course of the conversation back to the Bible study topic. 5) Acknowledge others’ faith. Always assume they WANT the truth. 6) Mix in personal stories, testimonies, and illustrations. Allow them to share their experiences. 7) Always plan to give time for questions and discussion.
What tip(s) would you give a student teaching their first Bible study to a friend
? a’s
Set a date and time. Move heaven and earth to make sure that date happens. They must know you care about them. -Reagan Matheson Pray before and during like everything depends on prayer. Study and really know the material. Fill your heart and let ‘er rip. And keep it simple! -Ron Gross
8) Have enough Bibles for everyone present. It is a Bible study, after all.
Start smart.

2013 is here, and the New Year is still fresh on our minds. New Year’s resolutions are something that almost everyone makes. Now, before you lose all hope on your newly laid-out goals and plans, here are a few tips to keep in mind so you don’t get discouraged along the way. An easy way to set a smart goal is to follow the S.M.A.R.T. acronym.
Specific Make sure your goals answer the “W” questions: who, what, where, when, and why. A general goal would be “I will be cleaner.” A specific goal would be, “I will clean my room three times a week to stay organized.”
Measurable

AMPLIFY asked its social media followers,
“What are some of the most important things that we believe?” Peter Morken / @SirPeterMorken
Definitely gravity. Yeah. Ella Budzinski / @EllaBudzinski
You need to have a way to measure your progress. This helps you stay energized when you attempt to meet a goal. Ask yourself, “How much?” or “How many?” How will you know when you have accomplished your goal? If you have only cleaned your room twice so far this week, you know you have not quite met your goal.
Attainable Try to develop the attitudes, abilities, and skills required to reach your goal. If you always have clothes hanging out of every drawer in your dresser, yet you have a relative whose closet is so organized every garment is color coordinated to the next one to it and shoes sitting below, consider enlisting their advice or ideas to gain the skills you lack. Then, practice the tips they’ve shared until doing these things become second nature to you.
Realistic Be realistic and create goals that you are both willing and able to work on. If you create too easy of a task, you will not try to change. If you make it too difficult, you will discouraged if you miss the mark.
Time-bound Be wise when establishing a time frame to meet a task you wish to achieve. If you skip this, you will have no sense of urgency to accomplish your goal. If you have already created goals this year, make sure your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. This year, let’s make our goals SMART!

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you THE GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

New Year Resolutions Every year, during the first week of the new year, people begin to make lists of things they want to do, or change, in the coming year. Many people find motivation in the New Year to get better in areas that they feel they need to improve upon. While most resolutions are noble, many well-intentioned people lack the commitment and motivation to keep them. I am among those people. The only ones I can think of that can keep every resolution they make are the ones who resolve to never make any resolutions.
I believe that, even though 88% of people (these numbers are verified by Wikipedia) fail at

their New Year’s resolutions, new resolutions still need to be made every year. Failure to recognize the need for change is one of the greatest obstacles to change. So, how DO we stick to our resolutions? You could resort to adhering to nerdysounding acronyms (see page seven). Or, you could try a more social route. Studies have shown that sharing your goals with a friend or someone you trust is a great way of increasing your chances for success. Even making your goals public, like through a social media site, can provide a significant motivational boost. Also, breaking your goal into smaller goals can provide extra incentive because you can see your goal being accomplished as you complete each step. My resolution challenge for you this year is to find a way to make yourself accountable to your resolutions. Don’t let all your resolutions be empty promises but go the extra mile to do what is necessary to insure that you prepare yourself for changes and growth. I hope that you all have at least one resolution that encourages growth spiritually. These resolutions should be the most important. If you don’t have any resolutions yet, then let your goal be to have a heart that is open to whatever God will speak to you about this year. Now, for your enjoyment, some more resolution comics:
