DR. AMY GAMERDINGER JEFFERS

Lake Wissota Family Chiropractic 14 years of caring for the Chippewa Valley

Lake Wissota Family Chiropractic offers fitness

classes like yoga and bellydancing, childbirth education sessions, and cutting-edge techniques and services from dry needling to postpartum care, to on-site massage therapy. Serving the Chippewa Valley in a unique and warm environment, it’s clear why locals have trusted Dr. Amy Gamerdinger Jeffers with their care for the past 14 years. Located in downtown Chippewa Falls, the Lake Wissota Family Chiropractic space is unlike others in both its physical space and offerings. With a unique spread of rooms for fitness classes, workshops, family chiropractic sessions, and one-on-one visits, the office relishes in offering its clients a safe space. For Dr. Amy, offering that kind of comfort and relief is what sparked her chiropractic journey in the first place. While Dr. Amy was in college in Madison, she was part of the dance team and had to seek chiropractic care after injuring her back. “After I threw my back out, when I would do any leap I’d have this pain shoot up my back,” she recalled. “Then I went into the chiropractor and all that pain went away after

just one visit. After that, I was like, ‘I have to pursue and study this. This is amazing, being able to give that kind of relief so quickly.’ I completely focused on that in school afterwards.” Since then, Dr. Amy has earned a bachelor of science degree in medical biology, her doctor of chiropractic degree, and has been certified by the Academy of Chiropractic Family Practice in Chiropractic Pediatrics and also in the Webster Technique for pregnancy by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. As a certified Childbirth Educator Mentor and doula-in- training alongside being a mom of two, Dr. Amy is uniquely qualified in caring for expecting mothers and families. The office moved into its current location four years ago when Dr. Amy put full-circle education and service at the forefront of her practice, finding a space to fulfill that need. “I started looking for a space that really encompassed all of the different pieces I offered and wanted to support; help with fertility, nutrition and education all the way through pregnancy, postpartum support, and helping babies and kids. I wanted that full-circle process, so that’s how we’ve evolved and grown here.” Often working with expecting women, teenager athletes, and chil-

dren, Dr. Amy has become an expert in specific techniques like dry needling and the Webster Technique.

Dry Needling

This technique was recently approved by the state Chiropractic Examining Board for chiropractic doctors to train in and use, and Dr. Amy is one of few in the area offering it. Often used at Lake Wissota Family on athletes and those with joint and arthritis pain, dry needling helps soothe muscle spasms and pain by placing needles into the uppermost part of the skin. “It’s usually comfortable because of that, and it works due to the body’s natural response to essentially get away from the needle, so everything around it relaxes.”

Webster Technique

This technique specifically supports pregnant people to help align the bones and soft tissues of the pelvis. “When your body is balanced there can be less pain and discomfort, and when babies have a better environment, labor and delivery can be easier,” Dr. Amy explains. Apart of Lake Wissota Family’s intentional emphasis in pregnancy and postpartum care, Dr. Amy offers postpartum classes as well. For children, Dr. Amy uses a com-

fort- and education-led approach that allows parents to continue exercises at home for children too. “Adjusting babies and kids is totally different than adjusting adults, so we tailor our techniques based on what they need,” Dr. Amy explained. “Like with babies, I’m just using my fingertips to adjust them, so it’s super gentle. We offer parents nutritional and lifestyle recommendations like diapering, feeding ergonomics, and backpack safety that they can continue stretches at home with their children too.” With intentional care and trusted expertise, Lake Wissota Family Chiropractic has been a dependable and devoted space for care in the Valley for more than a decade. Set up an appointment with Dr. Amy and the team today for any of your family needs.

Rejoice chiropractic

with a nervous-system focused approach, Rejoice is making a real impact in its first year of business

Led by her passion

for women’s and family healthcare alongside her faith, Dr. Alice Kephart and her husband Peter have started their own family, moved to Eau Claire, and opened Rejoice Chiropractic in about a year’s time. That timeline is pretty swift, the duo admits, but Dr. Alice was already familiar with the Eau Claire area thanks to her time at UW-Eau Claire in the kinesiology program. “I fell in love with the town and the campus, and the kinesiology program is just amazing,” Dr. Alice recalled. After completing graduate school at Life University in Atlanta, Georgia in 2021 following her undergraduate degree earned from UWEC in 2017, she and her husband knew they wanted to end up in the Midwest, where they both are from. Having once been acquainted with the Chippewa Valley, the duo came back to plant their roots in E.C. Though Rejoice is coming up on its one-year anniversary this November, Dr. Alice’s journey in chiropractic care began years before she even attended UWEC. When her mother was pregnant with her last child, she endured damage to the sciatic nerve. Where Western medicine failed, she found relief in chiropractic. After witnessing that, Dr. Alice’s journey in chiropractic care had sparked. Rejoice Chiropractic’s focus on family care stems back to Dr. Alice’s time in chiropractic school studying human physiology and hormones, during which she was also figuring out her own body’s workings and cycle. Through that personal con-

nection too, she realized her deep desire to be a true advocate for her patients. “It was during that time I finally felt like I understood my body and cycle, and honestly, it shouldn’t take getting into a doctorate-level program to understand my body and what’s going on. It should be common knowledge for women to know these things about their bodies, but it’s not, and it’s really sad and frustrating,” she explained. “I wanted to learn and have that knowledge to advocate for my patients, and that got me really excited. It easily ties into caring for people during pregnancy.” Offering her chiropractic knowledge in an approachable, open way, Dr. Alice noted that while it wasn’t her and her husband’s plan to have their first child during the first year of Rejoice’s business, the experience has brought her closer to her patients as well as her family. “It’s one thing to read about pregnancy and birth, talk to people, watch videos, and study, but when you actually experience something you can connect deeper with people I think. It’s been so eye opening and I can connect so much better, on a deeper level with women.” Having their own little one, John, in the office with them too is part of Rejoice’s comfortable, intentional atmosphere, and has helped foster Rejoice’s family-centered practice. Patients often bring their whole family, and children are able to hangout together in the office’s front seating area. Helping other families reminds Dr. Alice and Peter every day about their overarching goal: positively changing the health trajectory in the Chippewa Valley. “When I decided I wanted to open my own practice, we found

that our big goal is to change the health trajectory here in the Chippewa Valley. Kids are our future, and if we’re going to radically change the health trajectory of a community, we need to get kids on a better health path. That’s how you change our future; That’s how you change a whole community’s health,” she said. An ambitious goal, the chiropractic couple is ultimately focused on long-term health and wellness with a nervous system-focused approach to care, and it’s those traits that further set Rejoice apart from others. Rejoice begins each journey with new clients with thorough first and second visits, where initial scans are completed and Dr. Alice identifies what she can see in them in connection with patients’ individual health histories. After taking time to explain her findings and answer any questions patients may have, adjustment appointments can begin. Dr. Alice is educated through BIRTH Fit, which was also started by a chiropractor who recognized that the pregnancy journey is often the most physically intense thing someone will ever go through, and yet is not something women are trained

for or given imperative tools for, like rehabilitation planning and breath work. “Being able to offer that as a chiropractor is amazing, and I love being able to support women with everything else that comes with pregnant, like mental support too.” Dr. Alice explained how children benefit from chiropractic care too since they’re very responsive to light techniques, as they haven’t had years of life changing their bodies. “There are so many developmental milestones children go through from even the first year, and by taking stress off of the body through our care, it allows their bodies to function the way they are intended to. It’s one of the best ways to hijack your nervous system; taking stress off of it so it can calm down and work properly, expressing life like it’s designed to.” “A lot of people just want to know, can I help them, which is a very valid question,” she said. “I can confidently say ‘Yes, we can help you,’ for most people because any time we can reduce stress, you are going to function and feel better.” Start living life to the fullest again alongside your family with Rejoice Chiropractic, today.

pairing treatment, active therapy to improve your health for life

As Dr. Kevin Schultz alternates between one room and another at Chiro One Wellness Center treating patients, they often ask him if the back-and-forth routine ever bores him. “My honest answer is, I absolutely love it,” Dr. Kevin said. “I just feel like I was born to help people. I love it whether it’s helping somebody with chiropractic, whether it’s helping somebody improve their nutrition. I love helping people. I love hearing the success stories.” Over more than 20 years as a chiropractor, most of them in the Chippewa Valley, those success stories have added up as

Dr. Kevin and his team have helped hundreds of patients live happier, healthier, more pain-free lives. Dr. Kevin, who grew up on a dairy farm outside Eleva, learned about chiropractic care from an early age, as he and his family made regular visits to a chiropractor. “We just took a natural approach whenever possible,” he said. “And that’s really what chiropractic is: Just a more natural, alternative approach to healthcare, and that just clicked with me. I was very interested in it, and so I just knew at a pretty early age that’s what I wanted to do.” After getting a bachelor’s degree at UW-Eau Claire, Dr. Kevin received a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2000. After a few years practicing in the Appleton area, he returned to the Chippewa Valley and opened a practice between Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. Several years ago, his clinic became affiliated with Chiro One, which has wellness centers in seven states. “Their model fits really perfectly with a lot of what we were already doing, they were just doing it bigger and better,” Dr. Kevin said. That model focuses on a combination of chiropractic treatments – such as spinal adjustments – and active therapies like stretching and strengthening exercises.

“ANYBODY CAN BENEFIT FROM IT BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY DOING THINGS TO KEEP THEIR SPINE, NERVOUS SYSTEM, AND BODY HEALTHY.” Active therapies are important for several reasons, he explained: First, they are more likely than passive methods (such as electric muscle stimulation) to reach the root cause of a problem rather than simply mask symptoms. In addition, he said, studies have found that active therapies have “remarkably better outcomes” for patients than passive therapies, he said. At Chiro One, active therapies may include the use of Precor StretchTrainers – equipment which allows users to stretch multiple parts of the body – as well as stability balls and resistance bands. These thera-

pies help patients with strengthening, stretching, and stability, and may be done before or after their chiropractic adjustments. On a typical day, Dr. Kevin sees 50 patients, including many regular patients who fall into two categories. “Regular patients are made up of people who are on what we call a therapeutic plan, which is more of a pain symptom relief plan,” he said. “And then what I grew up with, which was ongoing, regular wellness or preventative type care.” Because every patient is different, Dr. Kevin been trained in numerous adjusting techniques, allowing him to adapt to an individual patient’s needs and comfort level. “I love adjusting everywhere from newborn babies to our oldest current patient, who is 95 years old,” he said. As a lifelong beneficiary of chiropractic care himself, Dr. Kevin says his favorite patients are families. Chiro One focuses on helping families take responsibility for their own health – providing simple home therapies that people can do for life. “When you get into more of the wellness or preventative side of chiropractic, once people see and understand the benefits, then really anybody can benefit from it because they are simply doing things to keep their spine, nervous system, and body healthy,” he said.
