Here’s a helpful tip that is sure to make your Tucson golfing experience all the better: “In Tucson, hotel water is recycled and used to spray down golf courses overnight, making them quite soft and wet early in the morning. It will be quite a bit easier to cover greater distances if you play later in the morning. Another thing to keep in mind is that, since everything is dry in the desert, humidity won’t affect your ball. That means it will go farther without added effort and will continue rolling for another 25 to 30 yards once it hits the ground. No wonder golfers return from their Tucson vacations with an extra spring in their step. Guess a little boost to the ego never hurts!” “In short, Tucson has something for players of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. And, for those who really want to push their limits, the back tees always provide a fine challenge.”

A few seasons ago, if you had asked me what my most unlikely golfing destination would be, I might very well have said: Mesquite, Nevada.
Why? Simply because, until I got the chance to go on a group vacation there a few years back, it simply never would have occurred to me to visit this city, located about an hour’s drive northeast of Las Vegas along the border of Arizona and Utah. But, let me tell you, I quickly fell for the charms of this well-guarded secret—and, as an added bonus, you can get there on a direct flight. One of the courses at the top of my list is Wolf Creek Golf Club, which is probably one of the most photographed courses in the state. Wolf Creek’s designers had big ideas and the results are indeed grandiose when it comes to originality, elevation changes and, of course, challenge. You would be hard pressed to manage a low score without mastering all the subtleties of this extremely tricky course. If you look at aerial photographs, the desert landscape makes it looks like Wolf Creek is set right on the craters of the moon… so, just imagine what it’s like to be there for real! My second suggestion is Sand Hollow Resort. This particular course is totally up my alley, and it’s one you should definitely play more than once if you can. Located near St. George in Utah, this 27-hole course has beautiful green fairways weaving through red rock outcroppings that are identical to the Calanche of Piana in Corsica. Holes 12 through to 15 on the Championship Course are mesmerizing. Although the greens are absolutely breathtaking to see, you’ll be quickly distracted by the surrounding landscapes of endless valleys and majestic mountains. Oh, and make sure you keep your eye on the ball—you are sure to lose a few along the way! Last but not least is the Conestoga Golf Club, which is part of the Troon group—it is definitely worth the extra time it takes to drive here. This is one particular course where you have to be extremely strategic, and really think before you swing! You’ll find several one-shotters that play from elevated tees. This is the case for Hole No. 2 where the green is located 100 feet lower than the ball’s initial position. Consistently challenging over 18 holes, with consistently spectacular views throughout. Combine Mesquite to Sedona, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Tucson or the national parks within the same trip.

t's always better when you can do most of your driving on the golf course rather than in your car. Despite this, many Canadian golfers, especially those from Ontario and Quebec, regularly make the 17- or 18-hour drive to Myrtle Beach. And, for those looking to enjoy a quality golf getaway without breaking the bank, Orlando is the perfect choice, especially with direct flights that can get you there in three hours and on the course the very same day.
AN EXCEPTIONAL ARRAY OF COURSES With a seemingly endless number of courses to choose from in Orlando and Kissimmee, it can sometimes be hard to decide where to start. So, let me give you a heads up on some of the courses everyone is talking about… Disney Golf, with free replays: A golf vacation in Orlando would not be complete without visiting one of Disney’s courses. The Magnolia Course, the longest of Disney’s three, is lined with mature trees and features spacious greens and many challenging water hazards. This particular course has been part of the PGA Tour on several occasions. The Lake Buena Vista Course is a classic country-club style course. Magnificent pastel-coloured villas line the fairways, lending it a distinctive charm, and its superb design provides excellent playing conditions.

The third and final Disney course is the Palm, which was completely redesigned by none other than Arnold Palmer in 2013. The extensive work included building newly shaped tees, remodelling all of the bunkers and completely redesigning the greens. Featuring gorgeous white sand and countless palm trees, this modern course is sure to please. The ChampionsGate Country Club: This excellent course boasts incredible rates and completely natural terrain. The lush vegetation, expansive white sand bunkers and numerous elevation changes just add to the beauty of this superbly designed course. The Bella Collina Golf Club: Measuring over 7,500 yards from its longest tees, this Nick Faldo creation is indeed a challenge. If you can, plan to spend some time just relaxing in the clubhouse after your round—its stunning décor alone is worth the trip. I would also recommend both courses at the Grand Cypress Golf Club, which provide impeccable playing conditions that are sure to put your skills to the test. My final suggestion is the Celebration Golf Club. This fantastic course is so incredibly well designed, you’ll feel like you’re walking in a real park. It is said to be one of the most beautiful courses jointly created by the Robert Trent Jones father and son team. In fact, there are so many spectacular courses in Orlando, it is practically impossible to try them all in a single vacation. Personally, I enjoy playing twice on the same course, so I can get a little revenge the second time around. You’ll definitely have to visit more than once to soak up everything this golfer’s paradise has to offer. Over and above the golfing and the many theme parks, there are just so many things to see and do—you’ll never get bored!

laying off the right tees is the best way to give yourself a fair chance. There are several types of starting tees for different types of golfers. Golf or black tees for professionals and the golfing elite, blue tees for advanced golfers with long drives, white tees for intermediate golfers with decent drives, green for golfers whose strength doesn’t lie with distance and, lastly, red for women and juniors. Let’s look at this idea using a situational example based on a hole measuring 400 yards from the back tees, from the gold tee markers. The pro drives his ball 280 yards. He therefore has 120 yards left and will use his pitching wedge to reach the green. Now, let’s imagine a golfer who drives 240 yards. By starting on the same tee as the pro, he still has 160 yards to cover and will probably use a 6 or 5 iron to reach the green. There is, of course, a huge difference between using a pitching wedge and a 5 or 6 iron to reach the green and attack the flag. To golf like the pro, this particular golfer should start from tees that offer a distance of more or less 370 yards. In this case, he would probably have to play off the blue or white tees. As such, he will end up with a distance of about 130 yards and possibly use an 8 iron to reach the green—which makes a lot more sense. Now imagine that another golfer joins the group and that this particular golfer drives about 225 yards, like the majority of players. I’ll let you do the math… but let’s just say that it’ll take this guy a heck of a lot longer to play the course. The opportunity to make it to the green in the maximum number of strokes using a short iron is rather rare. Just recently, I was playing a round with my father, who insisted on starting from the same tees as me. He is a 12-handicap player and, at 65 years of age, still drives the ball pretty well. Despite a slight decrease in his drive distance, he remains a very good player overall. But, during the entire round, he used long irons, hybrid drivers and even fairway woods to get to the green. It was pretty hard for him to keep up and score a birdie with clubs like these. Even at my level, I could never score as low as I am used to if I had to use long clubs to reach the green and make it close to flag. It would kind of be like playing a course between 7,800 and 8,000 yards. Of course, it’s never any fun being exhausted through the whole game. However, hitting a solid short iron shot close to the hole and ending it with a birdie—now your’re talking! Managing this on several occasions throughout the round and letting your scorecard reflect its full potential is what makes golfing fun… and gives you a sense of satisfaction!

njoy the challenge, beauty and charm of countless signature courses designed by some of the biggest names in golf, including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Greg Norman and Robert Von Hagge. This past March, I had the opportunity to go back to Puerto Vallarta, still fondly remembering two previous trips I had made to this incredible destination. As I always do, I played the two courses at the Vista Vallarta Golf Club, which are among my absolute favourites. I also got in a round at the equally fabulous El Tigre Golf & Country Club. On this particular trip, I added the Litibù Golf Course to my list. This great course is set directly on the site of the Iberostar Playa Mita Hotel, in Punta Mita—another beautiful region in Puerto Vallarta, located 45 minutes from the airport. If you enjoy wide, open spaces and lush vegetation, then this is the place for you. The hotel offers good value for the money, and the Litibù Golf Course, which weaves through the hotel site, provides spectacular ocean views. Every hole is a new challenge on this mountainous course. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to play again and again, day after day. Nothing is better than being able to casually stroll back to your hotel as you chat about your best (and worst) shots of the day! I personally loved everything about this place.

“To really take advantage of a golf vacation in Costa del Sol, expect to stay at least two weeks,” explains Antoine.
Costa del Sol is truly a superstar among Spanish golf destinations. In fact, no other place in the Mediterranean comes close to providing the same consistently gorgeous weather that Costa del Sol can. Home to the greatest concentration of golf courses on the continent, it’s clear why this destination has earned the nickname of Costa del Golf! Of course, a century-long relationship with the sport doesn’t hurt either. It all started in Málaga when golf was introduced at Real Club de Campo, now known as Parador de Golf de Málaga. Since then, love for this sport has grown so much in the south of Spain that the region has earned a solid reputation for the quality and abundance of its courses—over 70 of them, to be exact, all sought out by players from every corner of the globe. “Don’t be surprised if you cross paths with celebrity players like Miguel Ángel Jiménez,” adds Antoine, who is fresh from a trip to the land of Cervantes where he enjoyed exploring everything this superb destination has to offer travellers. “To really take advantage of a golf vacation in Costa del Sol, expect to stay at least two weeks,” explains Antoine. But, let me finish off with a few more suggestions you can discover along with the bounty of other Spanish courses. Finca Cortesin is assuredly one of the most beautiful courses in the area. In fact, absolutely superb is probably a more accurate description of the course itself and the experience I had. The round I played is definitely one of my most treasured vacation memories to date. Rio Real is another must-play. Designed by the legendary Javier Arana, considered by many to be one of the best Spanish designers of all time, it makes for a spectacular course. Its breathtaking oceanside holes alone are worth the trip. Capobino Golf Marbella is another great opportunity to discover golfing in Costa del Sol, and provides good value for the money. All of these golf courses blend beautifully with the region’s wild (and sometimes urban) landscape, allowing players to fully experience that Spanish charm.

I
absolutely fell head over heels in love with Portugal! The weather is perfect, the scenery is breathtaking and the sangria is… well, delicious! Although I suggest putting off the drink until after your round of golf, you certainly don’t have to wait to enjoy the picturesque surroundings of Lisbonne. The Quinta da Marinha Golf Course is a great place to start. This is a uniquely designed course where each hole offers up its own challenge, and where superb mountain and ocean views abound. And although you will catch a glimpse of the gorgeous red sand in the bunkers, you can wait until later to stick your feet in it—there is plenty of it to enjoy during a day at Cascais Beach, also known as a kite surfer’s paradise! If you make your way farther south, to Algarve, you simply must try the Vale do Lobo Golf Course. I consider it one of the three most beautiful courses I have had the chance to play in my life. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Please read the following general conditions carefully and make sure you understand them completely before making a reservation. We reserve the right to make changes after publication in order to correct errors or omissions, or for any other reason beyond our control. Updates: gendrongolf.com/conditions PACKAGE PRICES Prices on our Web site and in our Golf magazine are quoted in Canadian dollars and are based on availability at the time of reservation. Prices include taxes (GST, QST and service fees) and exclude the contribution to the Compensation fund for customers of travel agents (calculated at a rate of $ 1 for every $ 1,000 of services purchased), which must be paid by Québec residents. Note that prices are calculated using the most economic accommodation category available. Flights included as part of our packages are in Economy class. Luggage fees are not included in the price of our packages. Costs may vary depending on chosen airline and are payable at the airport. Insurance, taxes and surcharges applicable on car rentals are not included and are payable at destination. RESERVATIONS/SECURITY DEPOSIT We recommend that you reserve your stay at least 45 days before your chosen departure date. A security deposit of 25% (not including insurance) is required upon reservation. For payments made by cheque, no reservation will be confirmed until the cheque has cleared and we have received the full deposit. Please note that cheque will not be accepted in the case of reservations for departures taking place within 30 days or less. FINAL PAYMENT To guarantee the price of your flight, you must pay the air travel portion in full upon reservation. The balance of the payment must be received at least 45 days before your departure date, otherwise Gendron Travel reserves the right to cancel said reservation without prior notification and without any possible legal recourse, and will retain a cancellation fee. For reservations made 45 days or less before the departure date, payment must be made in full at the time of reservation. In the case of cruises, final payment must be received 90 days before the departure date. Exceptionally, non-refundable final payments for the following are due 60 or 90 days prior to departure on some groups. RESERVATION FEES For all reservations made with other suppliers independent from Gendron Travel such as Air Transat Holidays, Nolitours, TMR, Sunwing, Air Canada Vacations, the following fees apply: Customer file fees: $ 25 + tx per file (valid for 4 persons or less). Supplement of $ 5 + tx per additional person. Tee time reservation fee: $ 5 + tx per round per person up to a maximum of 6 rounds. CREDIT CARD PAYMENT By providing a credit card number to a travel agent, either verbally or in writing, the customer agrees to respect the present terms and conditions and authorizes that a security deposit and/or the purchase transaction be charged to said credit card. Gendron Travel may require written confirmation from the customer stating that this credit card can be used without the customer’s signature. UNUSED SERVICES No refunds will be provided for services that are unused or cancelled after your departure or as a result of circumstances beyond our control. TRAVEL INSURANCE Gendron Travel strongly recommends that its customers purchase travel insurance when reserving their trip, most notably insurance covering trip cancellation, damages and baggage loss as well as insurance covering medical and hospitalization costs abroad and, lastly, car rental insurance. Customers who are already insured through their credit card, their group work insurance, or through any other form of personal insurance are responsible for understanding the conditions of their existing contract and shall not hold Gendron Travel responsible in any way for any aspect of their travel insurance. Customers are invited to consult their travel agent for more information on travel insurance. CANCELLATION FEES 45 days or more before departure: total deposit. Less than 45 days before departure: total cost of package, including all taxes. Some groups are subjected to 60 or 90 days before departure.
CUSTOMER’S RESPONSIBILITY The customer is responsible for informing the travel agent of any condition (physical, health, pregnancy, etc.) that may restrict their ability to travel in any way whatsoever as stipulated in Article 28 of the LPC. INCREASE IN PRICE AND COSTS In the event of an increase in taxes, charges or other fees authorized by a recognized public authority, prices are subject to increase. Gendron Travel reserves the right to increase these fees and costs in the event of changes in the exchange rate, the price of gas, taxes or any other applicable fees. If the price increases as a result of changes in the carrier’s fuel surcharge or a higher exchange rate (where the exchange rate applicable 45 days before the provision of Services increased more than 5% since the date on which the contract was signed); and/or in the event of a price increase, without taking into consideration increases in the Quebec sales tax or Canada’s Goods and Services tax that are equal or higher than 7% of the price of services, the customer may cancel the services (and be fully and immediately refunded for said services) or opt for a substitution offering similar services. If the cost of these similar services is higher than the originally reserved services, the customer is required to pay the difference. No increase in price may occur in the 30 days preceding the date upon which the services are to be rendered. Price reductions resulting from promotions or decisions made by Gendron Travel apply only to new reservations. To obtain the most up-to-date prices, please contact one of our travel agents. No modifications will be made to prior reservations. Twinning Policy: Gendron Travel offers to twin passengers travelling alone to enable them to take advantage of double occupancy rates. Please note that risks and restrictions apply. A passenger can cancel, leaving the other passenger with extra fees. In many cases, travel insurance may cover these fees. We suggest you contact your travel consultant and/or insurance company. RESPONSIBILITY Gendron Travel is responsible for offering all of the services described on its Web site and in the present magazine. If, for any reason whatsoever, the stipulated services cannot be offered, Gendron Travel will offer the customer services of a comparable nature. Gendron Travel reserves the right to cancel or modify a trip at any time. The passenger waives all claims of any nature or any kind against Gendron Travel for loss, theft, accidents or damage. Gendron Travel will not be held liable for the closing of facilities, strikes, bankruptcies, political crises, terrorist attacks, bad weather, the quality of services provided by suppliers or overselling by the latter, the traveler’s failure to obtain all necessary travel documents, flight delays or any other circumstance or condition beyond Gendron Travel’s control that may prevent the normal and anticipated activities of the trip. RESERVATION CHANGES The following fees will apply to any and all changes made (room type, hotel and car): 30 days or more before departure date, $ 25 per person; 29 days or less before departure date, 100% of total package cost. Name and/ or date changes will be considered a cancellation (see paragraph entitled Cancellation Fees). Golf tee time reservations: a fee of $ 20 will be applied for any changes made to a reserved tee time. GUIDED GROUP TRIPS If the minimum number of passengers required for any of the group trips advertised in this magazine is not attained, Gendron Travel reserves the right to cancel the trip. If, however, the customer would still like to take the trip on his own, the package cost may be higher or lower depending on the new price in effect at that particular time. If the trip is to be cancelled for the reasons stated above and the customer chooses not to travel on his own, he will be reimbursed in full. PASSPORT A valid Canadian passport is your only proof of Canadian citizenship and is required any time you travel outside of the country. Some countries require that your passport be valid for 6 months beyond your date of entry. FLIGHTS AND AIR CARRIERS Changes: Flights are conducted in accordance with the applicable tariff of the air carrier and pursuant to the regulations set out by the Canadian Transportation Agency. Consolidations and changes in the published schedule, aircraft type, days of operation, air carrier providing air transportation and flight itinerary may be undertaken at any time and without prior notice, in accordance with the air carrier’s tariff.
Schedule check and connecting flights: Flight schedules, even when provided on a ticket, are tentative and are therefore subject to change without notice. Changes may occur for a number of reasons, often beyond the control of the air carrier or Gendron Travel. Any customer who has purchased a package or flight with Gendron Travel is entirely responsible for verifying his flight schedule directly with the air carrier in the 24-hour period immediately prior to the departure and return date. Connecting flights are reserved at the customer’s risk and customers are entirely responsible for ensuring that they have adequate time to reach and board their connecting flight. Gendron Travel will not be held liable for any changes made to flight schedules or missed flight connections, including any incidental or consequential damages or any other additional fees (most notably loss of revenue or salary, loss of vacation days or any other fees) incurred as a result of the foregoing. Airport Check-in: Gendron Travel recommends that customers arrive at the air carrier airport check-in counter at least three (3) hours before their scheduled departure time, failing which their reservation may be cancelled and their seat may be assigned to another customer, with no right of recourse. Baggage: Air carriers set individual rules and regulations regarding baggage number, weight and size. Customers are responsible for consulting their travel agent or air carrier for information on the applicable restrictions and applicable fees for their particular air carrier. Other air carrier conditions and limitations of liability: The limits of the air carrier’s liability with relation to the loss of and damage to baggage is established by the provisions of the Montreal Convention or the Warsaw Convention, depending on the case, by the applicable tariffs of the air carrier, as well as the contract appearing on the passenger ticket, the boarding pass and baggage check receipt, and any government regulations. Once submitted to and approved by the federal authorities, any amendment or change to the air carrier’s general terms and conditions of carriage are effective immediately, without additional public notification. Plane tickets that remain unused, in whole or in part, on the indicated dates, will not be honored for a subsequent flight or reimbursed. Seat assignment: Unless already pre-assigned, aircraft seating is assigned by staff at the air carrier’s airport check-in counter. Certain fees not included as part of the package price may be charged directly by the air carrier. TRAVEL DOCUMENTS A valid Canadian passport is your only proof of Canadian citizenship and is required any time you travel outside of the country. Some countries require that your passport be valid for 6 months beyond your date of entry. It is the customer’s responsibility to obtain, at his own cost, all documents required by relevant government authorities and to adhere to all applicable laws. Certain countries can require that a visa be obtained from the Embassy (at the customer’s cost). A parent travelling alone with a child under the age of 18 may be required to show written notarized consent signed by the other parent authorizing said travel. The customer is responsible for asking his travel agent about all required travel documents and ensuring that he has them in his possession before his departure. The carrier and any competent authority may refuse to allow the customer to board if he does not have all of the required documents in his possession. In this case, the customer has no recourse and will not be reimbursed. Gendron Travel will not be held liable for the information or assistance provided by any of its employees with regards to required travel documents or compliance with the law in this respect, regardless of whether this information was provided verbally, in writing or by any other means. The customer may also be refused entry into a country even if he has all of the required travel documents in his possession. Gendron Travel will in no way be held liable for the consequences suffered by any customer who does not possess the required documents or who fails to comply with any given applicable law. It is essential that you verify all of the travel documents you have received in order to ensure that they correspond exactly to the reservations you have made. Should you notice an error in any document you receive, or should you have any questions pertaining to your departure or your trip, please consult your travel agent. Departure tax and tourist card: Depending on your destination, you may be required to pay a departure tax and/or tourist card immediately on site. IDENTITY PROTECTION Protecting our customers’ identity is a priority for us at Gendron Travel. We only request information needed for
customer files and for ensuring good communication and ease of operations. We do not sell our customer databases or share any personal information whatsoever without prior consent. We also have security systems used to protect all of the personal information contained within our computer system. COMMENTS AND CLAIMS Complaints will only be considered if they are made in writing. They must also be made as quickly as possible after returning from your trip. An acknowledgment of receipt must be signed by Gendron Travel in order for your request to be considered valid. SPECIAL REQUESTS FOR YOUR HOTEL STAY Special requests such as room location and bed size preference must be communicated at the time of reservation. Gendron Travel will forward your request to the hotel but cannot guarantee that it will be honored. Gendron Travel will not be held liable if certain requests are not respected. GIFT CERTIFICATES/TRAVEL VOUCHERS Want to give one as a gift? Nothing could be easier. Simply contact one of our travel agents. To use a gift certificate or travel voucher, simply provide the original copy when making your reservation so that your travel agent can include it in your customer file. No reservation or price reduction will be applied unless your travel agent has the original gift certificate or travel voucher in hand. Gift certificates are non-transferable and have no cash value. Travel vouchers (unless otherwise indicated) are applicable for Gendron Travel’s exclusive packages (skiing, golfing, biking and *sun destinations). They are not applicable to group departures and are nontransferable and have no cash value. *Sun destinations: Air Transat Vacations, Nolitours, TMR, Sunwing or other wholesalers independent from Gendron Travel are excluded. PARKING AT THE AIRPORT We offer our customers preferential rates when parking at Montréal-Trudeau airport’s AeroParc and airport Multi-level parking spaces for the duration of their stay, for every room booked.
