Welcome to Panhellenic Meet the Exec Board

Dear future sorority women, Welcome to Georgia College! I am thrilled that you have decided to go through the formal sorority recruitment process. You will meet so many awesome people during this time and find out more about yourself than ever before. As a sorority woman you will learn about leadership, friendship, values, empowerment, and much more. Each sorority has their own set of values, philanthropy, and sisterhood that represent their chapters and community contribution. My wish is for you to find your home in Panhellenic and have the best experience possible. The most important advice I can give to you is to be yourself. Each of you are unique individuals; whether you are interested in intramural sports, ministry, honor societies, service organizations or more each sorority offers something for you. Although each organization is different, we are all one big community and always support one another. I had no idea how much Panhellenic would mean to me when I first joined a sorority. I would not be the person I am today without the experiences and opportunities I have had through my chapter and Panhellenic. Our motto for the recruitment process is to "BE empowered and BE panhellenic". Be a part of something that is bigger than yourself. Push out of your comfort zone and meet new people, start new friendships. Appreciate every moment that you are given because before you know it you only have the memories, and you will want to do it all over again. Finally, I want to wish you good luck during this recruitment process. I am beyond excited to see you this Fall! Warmest wishes, Emma Panhellenic Vice President of Recruitment

Welcome to Panhellenic Meet the Exec Board

Dear Future Panhellenic Woman, Congratulations on your recent high school graduation and acceptance into Georgia College! You will quickly come to find that Milledgeville and Georgia College are very special places that will soon feel like home. We are so excited that you decided to take on the amazing journey that is sorority recruitment! My decision to go through recruitment my freshman year was one of the best decisions I have made and I did not even know it then. Being a Panhellenic woman has given me so many amazing opportunities including strong friendships with women outside of my chapter. Our Panhellenic community at Georgia College is one that believes in empowerment and confidence, and our members strive to lead by those two things. All eight of our organizations have unique philanthropies that they serve so well that allows the their sisterhoods to be so tight-knit. You will be in a wonderful place wherever you choose to go at the end of this week. My biggest advice would be to be your most authentic self and focus on what feels right to you. Joining a sorority is more than a social, formal, or a print on a t-shirt, it’s where you feel at home. It is where you find yourself feeling comfortable and with no judgement. It is safe to say that one of our eight chapters will provide that for you. I wish you the absolute best of luck this week and we know you can find a place in our Panhellenic community Wishing you all the best, Linley Panhellenic President

Hey y'all! I had the amazing opportunity of serving as a peer mentor for the SLC this past year and now I get to help lead all the chapters of sophomore women living there. The SLC is an amazing program that allows each member to grow as an individual. You will get to live with the women in your chapter as well as having the chance to be around all of our panhellenic women. I remember going through recruitment like it was yesterday and preparing to find my future home. I have grown so much as a person through meeting new people and helping my community since then and have had the most incredible experience. The panellenic community at Georgia College is strong and a tightknit place where you will have the opportunity to meet so many people. I hope that y'all follow where your heart belongs and make the most out of every second of recruitment. College truly is where you will find your lifelong friends. Have a great experience no matter where you end up! Sincerely, Abby Vice President of the SLC

Frequently Asked Questions How do I register for Sorority Recruitment? You can register online at gcpanhellenic.mycampusdirector2.com. The rate for recruitment is TBD for students living in the residence halls as well as for students living off campus. The registration fee includes earl move-in (for on campus students), meals throughout the week, two t-shirts, recruitment technology, and program supplies. Recruitment fees for PNMs living on-campus amount to $350, and $210 for those living off campus. I'm signing up for Recruitment to meet new people, I don't have to accept a bid, do I? Sorority Recruitment is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn your way around campus and get settled into the college scene. A PNM is never obligated to join a sorority. For various reasons, if you would not like to continue with formal recruitment, you may choose to withdraw. You should discuss these feelings with your Pi Chi who will help you through the process. If you withdraw prior to receiving a bid on Bid Day, you are eligible to participate in continuous open bidding (COB), better known as Informal Recruitment. If you receive a bid from a chapter on Bid Day, and decide not to accept it, you will not be able to participate in COB for one calendar year. You will however be eligible to participate in Formal Recruitment the following year. What are Recommendations, and do I need them? Recommendations (recs) are letters or statements from a sorority alumna recommending a PNM for membership. The purpose of these letters is to help the sororities get to know you a little bit better. It gives the perspective of someone who knows you on a more personal level. Letters of recommendation should be sent prior to the beginning of Recruitment. While they can be helpful, letters of recommendation are by no means required or necessary for you to be successful in your Recruitment experience. Please go to www.gcsu.edu/fsl/panhellenic for more information regarding letters of recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions I am an upperclassman, do I even have a chance of getting a bid? At Georgia College, all of our potential new members regardless of age or classification, that maximize their options are successful during the Recruitment process. There are several women in each of the sororities that joined during their sophomore, junior, or even senior year. I heard there are more sororities at Georgia College other than the eight Panhellenic organizations. Who are they and why aren't they in Recruitment? Georgia College Panhellenic Council is one of the four Fraternity and Sorority Life councils on campus. Panhellenic Recruitment only involves sororities because those are the member sororities of that council. There are also sororities within the National Pan-Hellenic Council and United Greek Council. Our community strives to offer a place to any student that is interesting in joining a fraternity or sorority. If you would like to learn more information about the other organizations, please contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at http://www.gcsu.edu/fsl or (478) 445-2960.

What is expected of me as a "new member" of a sorority? As a new member, you can expect weekly meetings, study hours, community service projects, sisterhood events, and social events. These activities will continue after initiation to whatever extent you choose. Your experience is what you make of it - the more you put in, the more you will get out!

Explanation of the Membership Recruitment Acceptance Bidding Agreement (MRABA) The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement is effective for one calendar year. By signing this document, you as a Potential New Member agree that you are willing to accept a bid for membership from any sorority that you visit on Preference. Please note that if you receive an invitation to membership (a bid) from any sorority that you ranked during voting, then you are bound to that group for one calendar year (August 2021-August 2022). Most importantly, if you receive a bid from any sorority that you have listed on your voting and you choose not to accept it, you are not eligible to participate in Continuous Open Bidding(COB) in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022. If you receive invitations to Preference, at the conclusion of your last Preference party, you will make your final selection in a computer lab, ranking the chapters you visited during preference round in a preferential order. Once you complete your rankings, you will sign a copy of the MRABA. Please note that once the MRABA has been turned in to a representative of the Georgia College Panhellenic Association, it cannot be altered or changed. Prior to signing the MRABA, you have several options to consider and we suggest that you thoroughly reflect on these before signing your MRABA. First and foremost, you may choose not to complete the MRABA, thereby withdrawing from recruitment. If you choose this optio, you are ELIGIBLE to accept a bid for membership from any sororities participating in Continuous Open Bidding. A small number of sororities may be able to recruit a limited number of women through the COB process after primary formal recruitment if their chapteris below Panhellenic total; however, this is not guarenteed. Secondly, you may choose to list any sorority whose preference event you attended and from whom you are willing to accept an invitation to membership (a bid). Please not that you should NOT rank any sorority on your MRABA that you are absolutley not willing to accept a bid for membership. If you match with a sorority that you listed on your MRABA, it is important to note that you are bound to that sorority for one calendar year (August 2021-August 2022), regardless ofwhether you officially accept the invitation for membership or not. Lastly, you may choose to limit your choices to just one sorority whose preference round event you attended and are willing to accept an invitation to membership, but you must understand that if you choose single intentional preference then ou are not guaranteed to receive a bid for membership. Only Potential New Members who maximize thier options and list ALL of the chapters that they attended during the Preference round are guarantee to receive a bid for membership during primary formal recruitment. If you do not recieve an invitation to membership(a bid) from any of the sororities that you have listed, you are ELIGIBLE for Continuous Open Bidding.

Financial Information Financial requirements are an important consideration for women participating in sorority recruitment, so it is important to be as informed as possible with the costs associated with the sorority experience. If you accept an invitation to join a chapter, you will enter into a financial agreement and contract for dues during your collegiate years. Dues and fees vary from chapter to chapter and year to year. It is important to note that sorority costs may be more expensive the first year due to one-time new member fees and expenses. All sororities on campus are willing to work with each member individual through payment plans to meet the financialobligations of membership. It is also important to note that there are also many “extras” that are in no way mandatory. Such “extras” include social events, pictures, and Tshirts. Additionally, there will be a designated day during recruitment where each chapter will give a brief presentation to break down their own membership dues. If you have any further questions regarding the cost of belonging to a sorority, please ask your Pi Chi or sorority members!

First-Year Member Dues Average: $1,463.44 Range: $1,338.50 - $1,500.00 includes: Inter/National Fees Sisterhood Events Date/Social Events Philanthropy Events Initiation Fee* Badge Fee* Parlor/House Corporation Fee Technology Fee *denotes one time fees

Recruitment Counselors

Welcome to Georgia College! We know how stressful this time is for you, but as Pi Chis, we are here to help you through it all. During recruitment week, you will be put into a group where a Pi Chi will be available to answer all your questions and address your concerns. These ladies are your ultimate resource throughout this week and even past Bid Day, and everyone is so excited to meet you! Be yourself and we cannot wait to help you start this chapter in your life!

What I wish someone had told me before recruitment... "Recruitment is all about finding the people that will be by your side for these next four years and beyond. Focus on finding those people. This week won’t be easy, but learn from this experience. It also may not work out how you expect it to, but everything that happens during this process happens for a reason. Trust the process and be grateful for all the great experiences to follow this week."

"Stop loving what they have and start loving what you have. Don’t let other people decide who you are! Be truly yourself. You want to find a sorority that reflects yourself and your values. The sorority members are just as nervous as you are when you walk through the doors on that first day so just remember to keep an open mind and you will end up where you are meant to be. Recruitment can be stressful, but it is also an incredible opportunity to meet amazing people and find where you belong!"

Circle of Sisterhood Circle of Sisterhood was founded on the idea that sorority women from all over the world and from every affiliation could come together and make a difference by working together to support women all over the world in getting an education. For example, $13 pays for a girl’s tuition for a whole year, and $4 can provide her with lunch for a whole year. At Georgia College, we have partnered with Circle of Sisterhood as our Panhellenic philanthropy because women and girl empowerment is something we are extremely passionate about, and being able to partner with an organization created specifically for Greek women is empowering to us. Sorority women all over the country fundraise and donate millions of dollars every year, but imagine when every organization comes together to change the world through global fundraising? One of our favorite authors, Katie Bulmer, says that “Sorority girls can change the world” and Panhellenic’s partnership with Circle of Sisterhood proves that theory. Many of our organization’s founders founded our sororities in an attempt to break the education gap between men and women, and Circle of Sisterhood has decided its time for us to continue that cause and spread the good aroundthe world. We are so proud to be partners of Circle of Sisterhood and hold many events throughout the year to raise awareness and money for this cause. We cannot wait for you to get involved and change the world with us! We encourage all to begin supporting Circle of Sisterhood and learn how you can make a difference in our Milledegville community and communities beyond. Circle of Sisterhood embodies women coming together to make a difference. Please consider donating to Circle of Sisterhood via Venmo @GC-Panhellenic. Please make sure you take this quiz by Friday, July 31st. Make sure to click the "take values bracket" option on your Campus Director account to get to this page. At the end of the quiz, make sure you put "Potential New Member" as your affiliation. After the quiz, you will receive an email in the email address you provided with your top 4 values. You do not need to worry about printing your results. Panhellenic believes that each PNM should feel free to be herself and choose her "forever home" based on such values that mean the most to her.

What to Expect

Round 1: Open House 8 PARTIES ATTENDED AUGUST 6TH AND 7TH During the first round of events you will visit all 8 sororities at Georgia College with your recruitment group. This round is intended to introduce you to all the chapters on campus before you begin to make any decisions. During these events you will be introduced to different sisters and talking to members of the sorority about yourself. This day of events may seem to feel repetitive, but remember each chapter is a new group that wants a chance to meet you, and for you to meet them! Don't be afraid to be your true self, chapters want to get to know who you are and what you value.

What to wear: Potential New Members (PNMs) typically wear sundresses and nice rompers for Meet and Greet events. You can wear whatever shoes you prefer, but keep in mind you will be walking around!

Examples of Outfits:

Round 2: Philanthropy 6 PARTIES MAXIMUM AUGUST 8TH

Round 3: SISTERHOOD 4 PARTIES MAXIMUM AUGUST 9TH

Round two events are focused on Philanthropy, Sisterhood and Leadership. During each event, the chapter members will discuss their specific philanthropy they work to raise money for throughout the year. You will learn about the women's involvement both on campus and within the community. Be sure to ask about other activities the sorority is involved in such as service projects and campus organizations. During round three you will also learn about the values our organizations were founded on, and values of the individual women who make up our amazing chapters. The events on this day are informative and allow you more time for conversation with sorority women. You will be able to see firsthand the individuality and spirit of each sorority sisterhood. The chapters will also be presenting financial presentations during these parties where you will find out detials of their financial dues. Try to hold your specific questions about dues until this day, because they will be addressed in detail.

Tip: This is the day when you learn what each chapter is involved in on campus and what their founding values are. Think about what you would like to be involved with at Georgia College and what kind of sisterhood you want. Use this day to see what chapters can help you reach your goals. What to wear: During this round of recruitment, you will be provided with Panhellenic & Circle of Sisterhood T-shirts that you can style according to your preference, however we suggest avoiding denim. You can wear whatever shoes you prefer.

Round 3: preference 2 PARTIES MAXIMUM AUGUST 10TH

Preference round is intended to help you make your final decision as to where to call home. The events focus on the core aspects of sorority life, inclduding sisterhood, friendship, and ritual. Each sorority will present a ceremony, which usually consists of singers and speakers, and the memebrs will tell you what it measn to be a sister and what their soririty has to offer. This is your last chance to interact with chapter members before making your selection. When making your decision, remember that there is not necessarily a "right" choice, and a group that you may not have strongly considered earlier may be the perfect place for you.

Tip: At each event, think carefully about how comfortable you feel at each house and take time to look around you, as the women at this event could become your sisters. Enjoy yourself, be yourself, and have fun. This is the day you wear your favorite dress or skirt that best represents your personailty. Chapter women typically dress in "pin attire", which refers to attire that would be worn to an interview or a nice dinner. You want to look and feel YOUR best because this is a special day during recruitment.
