Paul Haas
Music Director & Conductor
SoNA Music Director Paul Haas enjoys a distinctive career as conductor, composer and installation artist. His guest conducting engagements have included performances with Orchestra of St. Luke’s, San Antonio Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony, among others, as well as festival appearances.
Over the last decade, he has written commissions for a wide variety of iconic venues, including the Park Avenue Armory and Rubin Museum of Art in New York, Grace Cathedral in San
Francisco, the Anchorage Museum of Art in Alaska and the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
In addition to his position as Music Director of SoNA, Haas is the founder and Artistic Director of Sympho, a trailblazing concert production company that creates powerful and emotional musical experiences, collaborating with leading artists and using unexpected performance methods and unorthodox venues.
Haas is a graduate of Yale University and The Juilliard School. He resides in Germantown, New York, with his wife and three children. Find out more at paulhaas.com
Other SoNA Programs
SoNA Mentors
What is the SoNA Mentors program?
At no cost to schools or families, we send our musicians into area schools to enrich our communities’ students with: Performances Sectionals Masterclasses Audition Preparation
Rather than approaching schools with a pre-existing curriculum, SoNA Mentors collaborate with local music teachers and directors to support educators in whatever capacity is needed to help music students achieve their fullest potential.
Last year, the SoNA Mentors worked with students across Northwest Arkansas in 11 area schools – with an estimated 2,000 students impacted by our mission, culminating in two Symphonic Outreach Concerts at the end of the spring semester led by our Assistant Conductor, Sarah Pearson.
“Whether a young musician goes on to get a music scholarship, becomes a professional musician, or even just a lifelong music lover – our efforts in music education will no doubt be felt in countless ways for decades to come. I’m deeply honored to play a role in this, and am grateful for the generous souls who make this work possible.”
– Natalie Fernandez, Education Director
Going beyond the Mainstage!
The SoNA Beyond series goes beyond the concert hall and into the community with small ensembles from our orchestra performing innovative programs designed to be inclusive and welcoming for all. Not simply a chamber music series, SoNA Beyond concerts are unique live music experiences built on distinctive programming and special partnerships with other community organizations. See below for a list of upcoming and past performances.
The SoNA Beyond series is generously sponsored by the Walmart Foundation.
Join our mailing list and check our website to stay up to date on future SoNA Beyond performances.
Ways to support SoNA
Overture Society
Gifts of any size to the Overture Society provide general operating support for concerts, education programs, community outreach, and administrative expenses.
Chair Sponsorships
Chair Sponsorships support the musicians in the orchestra and help SoNA attract and retain the best talent in the region. A gift of $2,500 will support a Principal musician for a season, and a gift of $1,000 will support a section musician.
The Maestro’s Circle
Members of the Maestro’s Circle are donors who have committed to multi-year gifts of $5,000 or more annually. Contributions to the Maestro’s Circle help support the financial stability and long-term growth of SoNA.
Legacy Gifts
Planned charitable bequests to SoNA help to ensure that our mission of bringing great music to life in Northwest Arkansas will continue for generations to come. For assistance with bequests, including gifts of stock, please contact Greenwood Gearhart, Inc. at (479) 521-5353.
